What Happens When You Stop Trying to “Heal” Your Nervous System?

Your nervous system isn't broken. It's not a wound that needs healing. And our obsession with “healing” it fits a little too perfectly into a wellness culture that constantly gives us something new about ourselves to fix. But that doesn't mean nervous system regulation doesn't matter. In this episode, we're getting nerdy about what your nervous system is actually doing when you're triggeredwhy you can't always think your way out of dysregulationand what becomes possible once you're regulated enough to actually listen to your body. This episode is specifically created with folks who struggle with body image, disordered eating, or are in eating disorder recovery in mind—but the tools and concepts we're talking about can be useful for anyone who wants to better understand their nervous system and themselves. We get into: What “healing” your nervous system actually means + why regulation is about more than calming down What happens in your brain when you're triggered + why positive affirmations don't always help Bottom-up + top-down regulation tools, with specific applications for body image + disordered eating Neuroplasticity, interoception + how your nervous system learns and adapts Questions to help you investigate what's underneath a trigger + build a relationship with your body outside of crisis moments Because the goal isn't to become permanently calm or never get triggered again. It's learning how to stay with yourself, get curious, and understand what your body is trying to communicate instead of constantly trying to fix it. Dr. Stephen Porges — Polyvagal Theory, neuroception + nervous system regulation Dr. Dan Siegel + Matthew Lieberman — “name it to tame it” + affect labeling Dr. Bessel van der Kolk — trauma + the brain Cheryl Groskopf, LMFT, LPCC — somatic regulation practices Kati Morton, LMFT — bridge statements Byron Katie — The Work Work with me 3 Group coaching start Sept 13th - only 8 spots available My insta Thank you for being here!!

Everyone's Trying to Lose Weight (Again!): How to Stay Connected to Your Recovery

Everyone's Trying to Lose Weight (Again!): How to Stay Connected to Your Recovery If it feels like everyone around you is suddenly on a GLP-1, talking about weight loss, or shrinking their body... you're not imagining it. And if you're in eating disorder recovery or working to heal your relationship with food, it makes sense that this season feels especially hard. In this episode, we're talking about why GLP-1 medications can feel so triggering, how to navigate the grief and comparison they can bring up, and—most importantly—how to stay connected to yourself and your recovery in the middle of it all. This isn't an anti-GLP-1 episode. It's a compassionate conversation for anyone who has chosen a different path and is wondering how to protect their peace while everyone around them seems to be chasing weight loss. In this episode, we'll cover: Why GLP-1s can feel so activating during eating disorder or disordered eating recovery The psychology behind comparison and social modeling How to practice body neutrality even when it's hard Practical tools to stay grounded when weight loss conversations are everywhere How to respond when friends or family bring up GLP-1s Ways to strengthen self-trust instead of getting pulled back into diet culture Whether you're recovering from an eating disorder, healing chronic dieting, or simply trying to build a healthier relationship with food and your body, I hope this episode reminds you that you don't have to follow what everyone else is doing to care for yourself well. A Realistic Health Approach in an Optimization-Obsessed World - with Kate Lyman & Michael Ulloa

The Perspective Shift on Health & Fitness That We All Need This week I’m joined by Kate Lyman and Michael Ulloa from the How to Fitness podcast for a conversation about wellness culture, sustainable health habits, and what happens when “being healthy” starts becoming less about authentic health — and more about optimization and chasing wellness trends. We talk about: how rigid ideas about health can actually keep people stuck and lead to disordered eating patterns the pressure to do fitness and nutrition “optimally” and why it's BS the importance of flexibility within a sustainable approach to health why evidence-based health matters immesly in a world full of food-fear, weird trends, and constant wellness marketing the impact of obsessing over “health” and what people miss out on when their lives become consumed by self-monitoring how orthorexia, wellness culture, and disordered eating patterns can quietly reinforce perfectionism, fear, and control how to become a more conscious consumer of health and wellness content — and the red flags to watch for which habits actually support a healthy and fulfilling life (and which ones are mostly noise) why so many people feel emotionally attached to control around food and exercise This conversation felt like such an important reminder that health is supposed to support your life — not become your entire life. This is about more flexibility, self-awareness, nuance, joy, and actually finding what works for your real life. Health can be fun!! When You Don’t Recognize Yourself in the Mirror: Menopause, Yoga, + Making Friends With Change — with Jen Brewer

What happens when the person you see in the mirror suddenly feels unfamiliar?  In this conversation, Lizzie Fischer (Intuitive Eating Counselor and Yoga Teacher) sits down with yoga teacher Jen Brewer to explore how our relationship with our bodies evolves over time—especially through menopause, aging, and major life transitions.  Jen shares her perspective after more than a decade of teaching yoga, reflecting on how yoga culture has changed, the pressure many women feel around body image and wellness, and the deeper system of yoga beyond flexibility, exercise or self-improvement.  They talk about the experience of not recognizing your body during menopause, the vulnerability of teaching movement while navigating your own body changes, and the freedom that comes from swapping constant self-improvement for self-awareness and self-acceptance. This episode explores:  • how yoga culture has evolved over the past 14 years  • the impact of menopause on body image and identity  • the difference between self-awareness and self-improvement  • creating inclusive, non-elitist yoga spaces and retreats  • finding connection, oneness, and common humanity through practice  If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and wondered who you’re becoming as your body changes, this conversation offers a compassionate perspective on aging, mindfulness, and making peace with change.  LINKS:  Jen's website: jenbreweryoga.com  Jen's Insta: https://www.instagram.com/jenbreweryoga/  Lizzie's website: lizziefischercoaching.com BODY TRUST COACHING:  lizziefischercoaching.com/body-trust-blueprint SIGN UP FOR A VIRTUAL CLASS WITH LIZZIE: https://lizzie-fischer-coaching.kit.com/products/lizziefischeryoga Lizzie's Insta: https://www.instagram.com/lizziefischer.coaching/   Topics discussed: yoga, menopause, body image, aging, self-awareness, mindfulness, spirituality, inclusive yoga.
