Myths and Legends

This podcast is great. The stories are told in modern parlance in a very conversational manner without the host ad libbing much or editorial interjection. To go into a bit more detail, of course the stories are not merely read. The narrator/host has to consolidate long stories into digestible segments in modern English. So, inevitably, he makes a lot of choices about what gets left out and what part he tells and how he tells it. And, he does that well. When he skips over parts of the story, he says why. There is some light, risible commentary on the actions of this or that character from a story from the perspective of modern social norms etc. But, it’s not much, and it mostly serves its intended affect: making you feel like he’s telling you a really old story where strange, fun, and sometimes problematic things happen. There is no attempt to add gravitas, which is good. The stories are told matter-of-factly and with a fair amount of humor.

I’m in another country far away from my family, learning a new language and very rarely get to use my mother tongue here. Because of my anxiety it takes me awhile to fall asleep wether at night or just an afternoon nap, but your calm and interesting storytelling made me feel right at home and not alone nowadays.
