Mindaugas Nefas. Ved. Jurgita Verbickienė ir Akvilė Naudžiūnienė.

Britain’s Man Inside the IRA: Unmasking the Traitor (Ep 4)

What brought about Stakeknife’s downfall? How did the IRA react when they realised there was a spy at the very top of their organisation? And what was Operation Kenova, and how did it reveal the truth of the Stakeknife case?

    The Persian Gulf

Near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital commercial chokepoints, lies an ancient trade route that powered civilisation 4,000 years ago: the Persian Gulf - where goods and ideas flowed between the great cities of Mesopotamia, Arabia and beyond to the far flung cities of the Indus Valley and the Indian subcontinent. In this episode of The Ancients, Tristan Hughes is joined by Dr Steffen Laursen and Dr Lloyd Weeks to uncover the story of this Bronze Age superhighway. How did this narrow sea connect such distant civilisations? What kinds of goods travelled its waters, and who controlled these vital routes? From the thriving Bahraini port of Dilmun to the wider networks beyond the Gulf, discover how this region became a crossroads of trade, culture and power, and why it still matters so much today. Exile, Adaptation, and Memory: Exploring Jewish Identity Over 2,000 Years

In this episode I sit down with Roee Peled Hanany, a history graduate from the University of Cambridge and a tour guide with 17 years of experience leading groups through sites such as Jerusalem and Auschwitz. Together, we trace nearly 2,000 years of Jewish history, from the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE to the rise of Zionism in the 19th century. We explore how cycles of destruction, dispersion, and minority life transformed Judaism from a temple-centered faith into a text-centered civilization. Roee explains the vital role of law, scripture, and communal structures in preserving identity and cohesion across centuries of upheaval. Learn how repeated cycles of integration, expulsion, and theological tension shaped a people whose survival has relied not on sovereignty, but on memory, text, and collective adaptation.

    Bloody Mary

In 1553, Mary Tudor became the first woman to sit on the English throne - a reign of just five years, that history has remembered almost exclusively through the lens of her enemies. But today, we revisit the story of "Bloody Mary" to ask: was she really a ruthless tyrant? Joining us is Professor Kate Williams, a historian and broadcaster who specialises in Royal history. She unpacks Mary's life from start to finish and reveals the real Mary Tudor. Produced by James Hickmann and edited by Matthew Wilson. We need your help!
