Stanford Luck Researcher: How to Manifest the Life You Want

In today’s episode, a Stanford neuroscientist is going to teach you exactly how to manifest the life you want – by becoming a luckier person.  Dr. Tina Seelig has spent 25+ years at Stanford, where she also earned her PhD in the science of neuroplasticity, studying leadership, success, neuroscience, and luck.  She's written 18 books, including her newest, What I Wish I Knew About Luck – and after this conversation, you will never see luck the same way again.  In it, she breaks down something most people get completely wrong:  You may believe that luck is something you have, or you don't.  As Dr. Seelig will teach you today, there is a science to luck. And when you understand it, and start using it, you can create a life that feels a whole lot luckier.  In this conversation, you’ll learn: -What research reveals about lucky people -The #1 mindset shift that separates lucky people from everyone else -The difference between fortune (what happens to you) and luck (what you create) -The 3-step framework to creating luck: build your sailboat, recruit your crew, hoist the sail -The 6 kinds of risk (and how your risk profile might be keeping you stuck) -Why asking for a “5-minute favor” can change your entire life -Simple ways to “stir the pot” this week so new opportunities can find you Dr. Seelig isn't ignoring reality. A lot of life right now doesn’t feel lucky. Everything is more expensive. Jobs are harder to get. Headlines are scary. Owning a home feels out of reach. That is real. And Dr. Seelig acknowledges all of it. And still she says this: There are practical, everyday things you can do - even when you feel stuck in the thick of it - that can change your luck and the direction of your life. If you’ve been telling yourself, “Nothing ever works out for me,” this episode is your wake-up call. If you follow the formula that Dr. Seelig is sharing with you today, there is no doubt that you will have a better and luckier life - because you will have created it.  For more resources related to today’s episode, click here for the podcast episode page.   If you liked the episode, check out this one next: Unlock Your Brain’s Hidden Power: 6 Tools to Boost Focus, Confidence, and Creativity Connect with Mel:    Order Mel’s new product, Pure Genius Protein Get Mel’s newsletter, packed with tools, coaching, and inspiration. It also happens to come from someone currently writing the book and screenplay for Martin Scorsese's upcoming film starring Dwayne Johnson. He also pulls back the curtain on Silicon Valley's reality distortion field and how completely it can play you. Nick is a rare mind. This one is not to be missed. Enjoy! #82 Building a Team of True Believers: Creating a Purpose-Driven Team United by Shared Vision, Deep Conviction, and Organized by their Individual Strengths. A conversation with Jared Wilson

Let us know what you are think about this episode here. 💬 Text here. The best teams are not assembled by gathering the most impressive individual résumés and assigning them work. They are built in two deliberate movements. First, identify and recruit true believers—people who genuinely share the vision, goal, purpose, mission, and desired outcome. Second, organize those believers according to their distinct talents and abilities so that each contributes where they are strongest to achieving that shared end. Conviction is the qualifying condition for membership; talent is the logic of arrangement. Reverse the order—arrange by talent first and hope belief follows—and the team becomes a collection of capable people pulling in incompatible directions.  The leader’s first responsibility is not to issue tasks but to articulate a vision compelling enough that the right people choose to believe in it, and to recruit selectively against that belief rather than against credentials alone. The second is diagnostic: to see clearly what each believer is best at and to place them there. Recruiting for conviction is slower and more discriminating than staffing for availability, and it will feel inefficient to any organization that measures itself by how quickly seats are filled. But a team of true believers, each working at the height of their talent toward one shared outcome, is the only configuration that reliably produces results no directive could have compelled. Assemble the believers first; arrange the talent second; and the team will pursue the outcome as if it were their own—because, by then, it is. Why Teach Me to Fish?  Catch someone a fish, feed them for a day.  Teach them to fish, feed their family for life.  Our purpose is to help Leaders better understand what drives People to serve. In any organization, the core of recruiting and retaining talent revolves around leadership. And not just average leadership, but motivated, values-based, inspirational leadership.     Our Pursuit here is to get a little bit better every day.  Progress = Small Victories and stacking habits. Habits like Getting up early, working your butt off, learning something new, Being positive and Surrounding yourself with phenomenal People.    Thanks for investing some time for yourself and thinking about the kind of People and experiences in your life that inspire you to be the best version of yourself.  I hope these conversations spark some ideas on what you can do to inspire People too.
