E.198 From Finance To Functional Smoothie Bar; The Journey of Elevate

In My Kitchen this week, I am joined by Julia Baldet, founder of Elevate, the functional smoothie bar redefining wellness on the go in London. Built on the belief that nutrition should be both convenient and uncompromising, Elevate blends high-quality, functional ingredients designed to support energy, focus, and overall wellbeing. With a menu rooted in purpose-led nutrition, Elevate is on a mission to make healthy choices effortless for busy city lifestyles. In this episode, Julia shares her inspiring journey from burnout in the fast-paced world of finance to pursuing her dream of fuelling the city with functional smoothies. After recognising a gap in the market for nutritious, high-quality breakfasts that don’t sacrifice convenience, she took the leap to create Elevate, a brand that is as much about lifestyle as it is about nutrition. Just nine months since launch, Elevate has already seen an incredible rise, partnering with major brands including L'Oréal, Rimmel, Nike and By Rotation, which is a testament to both the product and the cultural moment it taps into. We dive into the evolving consumer mindset, where investing in wellbeing has become part of one’s external identity and personal brand. Julia shares fascinating insights from the frontlines of retail, what customers are really looking for, how habits are shifting, and why functional nutrition is no longer niche, but a defining trend of modern urban living. E.195 Fish Oils; why you need them and which ones to take with Melanie Lawson Founder of Bare Biology

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Melanie Lawson, founder of Bare Biology, a British supplement brand known for its high-quality omega-3 fish oils and marine-based supplements. Melanie launched Bare Biology after struggling to find a fish oil she trusted while navigating postnatal depression and OCD. Frustrated by the lack of transparency around sourcing, purity and potency in the supplement industry, she set out to create the kind of product she wished existed, as at that time she was sourcing hers from the states. Melanie wanted one that prioritised sustainably sourced ingredients, high therapeutic levels of omega-3, and rigorous third-party testing. What began as a personal mission has grown into a respected UK wellness brand with a loyal following among nutritional therapists and health practitioners. In this episode, Melanie shares the story behind creating Bare Biology, we focus in particular on fish oils, why omega-3 fatty acids are so important for overall health, and why the quality, purity and source of the fish used can make such a difference when it comes to choosing a supplement. Melanie explains what to look for on labels, why potency matters, and how sustainably sourced oils can provide higher levels of beneficial EPA and DHA. Beyond fish oils, we also discuss the supplements Melanie believes can be most beneficial alongside a healthy diet, including vitamin D and magnesium, and what she considers to be the core foundations when it comes to supporting your body nutritionally. Finally, Melanie speaks openly about her own health journey, from living with OCD for much of her life to her more recent ADHD diagnosis and how she has built and run a successful business while navigating these challenges. It’s an honest and inspiring conversation about resilience, entrepreneurship and the importance of supporting both physical and mental wellbeing. Topics we discuss:  Mel's story to starting Bare BiologyGrowing organically in a fast paced indsutryHow to assess the quality of the supplements your taking The importance of a high quality fish oilThe staple supplements most people should take Mel's biggest bug bare in the supplement industryThe power of Vitamin DThe power of Creatine Living with ADHDGetting your diet right and what that means Sponsors: Healthy Habits - Try mouth tape today and get 20% off your first purchase with code CATCHUPS20 click here This episode was hosted and produced by Georgia Symonds Georgia’s Instagram - click here!
