Did you know there’s a difference between the biological and legal definitions of food? The legal definition ignores biology, allowing literal poison to be marketed as food. Can you create health with ultra-processed food? No! It’s not sustainable and doesn’t repair tissues in the body. Healthy foods like red meat, saturated fats, and salt have been demonized. Food is often viewed only as a source of calories, making a glass of sugar water and a steak equal. “Balanced diets” are considered healthy, which further allows for the marketing of ultra-processed foods. Fraudulent health claims about food are just the tip of the iceberg. The definition of a drug is “anything intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent a disease.” By this definition, if broccoli can help prevent a disease, it’s a drug. We know that the calories from ultra-processed foods are one of the primary drivers of chronic disease, yet there is no established definition for these foods. This allows doctors to treat more conditions with drugs. Even the definition of health has been changed to increase the demand for drugs! There’s more. The Lancet Planetary Health Diet attempts to eliminate healthy animal-based foods and replace them with lab-grown meat, plant-based alternatives, and soy protein. It’s argued that we must subsidize these unhealthy foods or people will starve, but why not subsidize real food and support smaller farmers who produce quality products? Dr. Coimbra first discovered the benefits of vitamin D when he noticed significant improvement in a patient with Parkinson’s disease and vitiligo after giving them 10,000 IU of vitamin D per day. As Dr. Coimbra learned more about vitamin D, he began to increase his patients’ dosage while closely monitoring them for symptoms of toxicity. He found that he could prevent an increase of calcium in the urine caused by higher doses of vitamin D by asking his patients to decrease their dairy intake. Magnesium can also be taken with high doses of vitamin D to help control calcium levels and aid absorption. People with autoimmune disorders often have polymorphisms affecting any of the nine genes that vitamin D requires for proper function. Vitamin D deficiency is also related to modern lifestyles that limit sun exposure. In 1988, it was discovered that we have vitamin D receptors in almost every cell of the body. This triggered an increase in vitamin D research and the understanding that vitamin D was important for far more than just bone and calcium. If you have a problem with vitamin D metabolism, you could be prone to many diseases. Dr. Coimbra explains that some health concerns must be addressed with doses of up to 600,000 IU of vitamin D. This dosage may also be helpful before surgery. When treating people with autoimmune diseases, Dr. Coimbra gives his patients 1,000 IU of vitamin D per kilogram of body weight. If you have high blood pressure, your doctor should always check your vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is the most important vitamin for the inside of the arteries, yet it’s often ignored in cases of hypertension. Ninety percent of hypertension is considered essential, which means the cause is unknown. However, I believe it's likely linked to vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is vital in supporting and protecting the endothelial layer of your arteries. The benefits of vitamin D for your arteries include: 1. Potent anti-inflammatory effects 2. Potent antioxidant effects 3. Increased nitric oxide Nitric oxide keeps the arteries in a state of vasodilation and relaxation. Without enough nitric oxide, the arteries become tight, and blood pressure rises. When the endothelial layer of the artery becomes dysfunctional, you no longer produce nitric oxide. You won't absorb much calcium if you don't have enough vitamin D. This can cause your parathyroid hormone to increase to remove calcium from the bone and put it into the blood. If you are chronically low in vitamin D, the parathyroid hormone will continue to rob calcium from the bone, creating osteoporosis. Many doctors do not recommend large doses of vitamin D in fear of vitamin D toxicity. Clinical data does not support vitamin D toxicity! Dr. Bruce Hollis, a pioneer in vitamin D research, has personally never seen a case. Vitamin K2 can help remove calcium from the arteries and put it into the teeth and bones. Magnesium regulates excess calcium and helps to prevent cardiovascular problems. Vitamin D protects your arteries by decreasing inflammation and supporting the vascular cells.
