BRIEFING: DISARMING HAMAS & ACRONYMS WITHOUT MEANING

In this lively situational briefing, I sit down with John Spencer, Senior Analyst at The MirYam Institute. Returning from fact-finding trips to Gaza and southern Lebanon, John outlines his reasons for optimism and for concern regarding the "Board of Peace" proposal for Hamas disarmament, highlighting the importance of US verification, civil governance, and phased decommissioning. I counter with resolute pushback rooted in Israeli security realities and priorities —dismissing unproven acronyms, rejecting Palestinian statehood, and arguing against the fallacy of Jihadist groups disarming. Together, we debate international stabilization forces, Saudi normalization demands, Egyptian culpability for October 7th, and requirements for long-term regional security. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ## Resources Mentioned Pre-order John Spencer's new book "Twent Times I Almost Died" via the link below: https://www.amazon.com/Twenty-Times-Almost-Died-Survival/dp/B0GFX5TQLK Support the show The MirYam Institute.

Will AI make or take the next billion jobs? | The Development Podcast

How will artificial intelligence reshape the future of work—and will it create enough opportunities for the next generation? Over the next decade, 1.2 billion young people are expected to enter the workforce, but only around 400 million jobs are currently projected to be available. In this episode, host Tanvir Gill explores whether AI could help close that gap—or make the challenge even greater. Entrepreneur and content creator, Marina Mogilko, explains how workers can build an advantage through AI systems, agents and “vibe coding.” Mohamed Eissa, IFC Chief Investment Officer and Global Head of Venture Capital and Direct Technology Investments, examines how AI could transform businesses and create opportunities across emerging markets. Sharat Raghavan, Director of Data Science and Research at LinkedIn, shares what their data reveals about changing jobs, rising skills and the future of career progression. Srinivasan Muralidhar: The trauma of Palestinian children

‘When it comes to humanitarian crisis, we should not allow children's future to be subject to geopolitics. We can't say that there are politically compulsions as a result of which we are allowing children to die of starvation. We can't say there are political compulsions because of which we are allowing children to die of want of medical aid. So the request before the Security Council was this. Cannot all countries agree on the minimum norms of humanitarian aid?’ Jugal Purohit speaks to Srinivasan Muralidhar, a lawyer turned judge in India for over four decades, in November 2025, he was appointed by the UN to lead an independent International Commission of Inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel. The commission examined alleged Israeli violations against Palestinian children from the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023 to October 2025. In June 2026 it published its 94-page report. Israel did not cooperate or provide information to the commission. It rejected the report and disputed its conclusions after publication. The report found that Israel had deliberately targeted Palestinian children, resulting in genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Gaza Strip, as well as war crimes in the occupied West Bank. Srinivasan Muralidhar talks about how the commission documented and verified the evidence of violations against children, the challenges it faced in establishing the facts, and the key conclusions it reached in its report. This episode of The Interview contains discussion of the killing of children and other consequences of conflict. How online fraud schemes are becoming a growing threat

Fraud schemes represent the fastest-growing area of organised crime. Online fraud schemes (OFS) networks target both individuals and organisations, operating as highly efficient and transnational industries. These networks employ a range of logistical, technical, and financial operations to perpetrate large-scale fraud. With the increasing adoption of generative AI, fraudsters can now personalise social engineering techniques, making them more convincing and dangerous. Online fraud schemes are one of the key threats highlighted in our annual Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessment (IOCTA). To find out more, tune in to this episode where Europol experts discuss this growing threat.  Speakers: Jorge Rosal Cosano, Head of Team, EuropolLearn more: Report: Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessment (IOCTA)The scam-aware mindset: simple habits to stay protectedSocial engineering: when trust is exploited

Jim Continenza, Kodak CEO: Reinventing a brand

“We were losing about $160 million a year. We burned through our cash and we had to make some changes. I don’t mean a financial restructuring. I mean transformation of the business. It’s a skill and an art. I asked, ‘What does Kodak do today?’ and I couldn’t get an answer. And I thought we had to get our identity back. What are our skills? What do we do?” Leanna Byrne speaks to Jim Continenza, chief executive of Kodak, the company that once dominated photography and became one of the world’s most recognisable brands. The rise of digital photography helped trigger one of the most dramatic corporate collapses of its era, leading to Kodak filing for bankruptcy in 2012. Jim joined the company’s board during the bankruptcy process, after building a career as a turnaround specialist. He had served on more than 30 boards, often stepping in when struggling businesses needed to be reconstructed. He discusses how he helped to give the company a new identity, rebuild itself as an industrial manufacturer and brought the business back from the brink. Patrick Tiernan: War risk is being rewritten

“As there is more drone warfare, more artificial intelligence in the decision making, we’re going to have to completely reimagine how we cover [war]” Business presenter Felicity Hannah speaks to Patrick Tiernan, who runs the 337-year-old insurance marketplace, Lloyds of London. He says that autonomous weapons and AI-driven decision-making could change how conflict risk is calculated and insured, because traditional assumptions about how wars escalate may no longer hold. He says the current risk environment is unlike anything in his company’s long history, and that a major state-backed cyber-attack remains one of their realistic disaster scenarios. Jacques Baud - Ukraine : Guerre en Ukraine, La Russie Recule ? Ep 3/3

Maggie Haberman, US journalist: Trump tests limits

“One of the things that’s fascinating about him simply as a historical study is the recognition that shamelessness is a superpower, and he refuses to be shamed in almost any action that he takes. He also realised that he doesn’t have to abide by the US system, which is primarily norms and not laws. He is testing them in a way they have never been tested before.” Paddy O’Connell speaks to Maggie Haberman, White House correspondent for The New York Times and co-author of Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump. Maggie gives her take on Trump’s second administration, from the influence of Elon Musk to his increasingly fraught dealings with world leaders. She also explains her belief Trump’s second presidency is fundamentally different from his first, and how he is testing the limits of presidential power.
