71: 11 Questions with Emily Guthrie

    1. What is your Elevenses beverage of choice? 2. Tell me a little bit about yourself and your story. 3. What led you to decide to share your story with me today? Have you shared it much beyond family and close friends? 4. What good and/or bad things have you experienced when you share Maverick’s story? 5. This is, I think, our first episode where my guest tells a story that is part theirs and part someone else’s. How do you navigate that, being Maverick’s mom and telling his story for him until he has a voice to share it himself? 6. On that note, how do you think you’ll share his story with him, and what do you hope he’ll learn from it? Will you want him to then share it with others? 7. 8. Do you have any practical tips, habits, or routines that help you live/tell a good story? 9. Who else has a story that has impacted you, who you might love to hear share their story on this podcast? 10. What books/movies/shows have inspired you personally, creatively, and spiritually? 11. Is there anything you want to add or reiterate from our conversation? My name is Emily, and I’m 28 years old. I’ve been married to my husband, Aaron, for five years, and together we’re doing our best to navigate life with our sweet and strong 3-year-old son, Maverick, who was born with a rare condition called Epidermolytic Ichthyosis. Being his mom has changed me in ways I never expected and has taught me so much about resilience and gratitude. I’ve been a nurse since 2020, with a background in emergency medicine, though I have primarily focused on being a stay at home mom the past couple of years. Through all of life’s challenges and blessings, we keep God at the center and prioritize meaningful family time, grounding our journey in faith, love, and purpose. Do you find yourself sharing bits of your story with your congregation during sermons? 4. What good and/or bad things have you experienced when you share your story as God calls you to? 5. How do you come up with sermon ideas? Do you ever find it feels more like work than like a calling or ministry? 6. I know you took a little bit of a coffee break, working at Sugar Brown’s instead of “full-time ministry” for a time. But did you happen to find a ministry experience working there, too? 7.
