Behavioral Genetics 101: How Genes Shape Mental Health w/ Professor Kathryn Paige Harden

In this episode, I sit down with behavioral geneticist and professor Dr. Kathryn Paige Harden to talk about what behavioral genetics can actually tell us about our kids—and what it can’t. We unpack the reality of psychiatric risk, family history, and the limits of control, and why genes are not destiny. We discuss how thousands of tiny genetic differences shape mental health, why diagnoses are messier than we think, and how warmth and firm boundaries still matter more than any “magic bullet.” I WROTE MY FIRST BOOK! Lauren Goodger on Grief, Motherhood and Rebuilding Her Life

Content warning: This episode discusses baby loss  This week we’re joined by TV personality and author-to-be Lauren Goodger for an incredibly honest and emotional conversation about motherhood, grief and resilience. Lauren opens up about her childhood growing up between her mum and dad, the impact that early experiences have had on her as an adult and what it was like navigating fame at such a young age after becoming a central part of The Only Way Is Essex. Most importantly, Lauren shares the story of becoming a mum to her daughter Larose and the devastating loss of her second daughter, Lorena. She speaks candidly about the trauma of losing a baby, the loneliness that followed and how motherhood has helped her find the strength to keep going. What We Learn About Love Before We’re 10 (How We're Raised with Will Guidara)

This episode is part of our new series, How We’re Raised — conversations about how the homes we grew up in shape the way we lead, love, and parent today. Dr. Becky sits down with restaurateur and author Will Guidara to explore how being deeply seen as a child shaped the way he builds culture — in restaurants and at home. Will shares what it was like growing up with a mother who became quadriplegic after brain cancer, the quiet power of full presence, and how those early experiences led him to build a career around “unreasonable hospitality” — not in pursuit of product, but in pursuit of people.Together, they talk about: Why feeling seen matters more than being impressive The gift — and cost — of being the person who cares for everyone Why holding your child can matter more than fixing their problem And how to bring more intention into your home life Get the Good Inside App by Dr. Becky: https://bit.ly/4fSxbzk Your Good Inside membership might be eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement! To learn more about how to get your membership reimbursed, check out the link here: https://www.goodinside.com/fsa-hsa-eligibility/ Follow Dr. Becky on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drbeckyatgoodinside Sign up for our weekly email, Good Insider: https://www.goodinside.com/newsletter For a full transcript of the episode, go to goodinside.com/podcast. Tigers, Ski Runs & a Beer at the Top of a Mountain

This week: Cara conquered a family pilgrimage to northern India (tigers included), and Bronagh conquered her first ski slope. Cara and Bronagh are back with the kind of holiday debrief only they could deliver. Cara returned from a family pilgrimage to northern India — tigers, Taj Mahal, custom moonstone rings and all — while Bronagh survived (barely) her first ever family ski trip, complete with a chairlift meltdown and a very dignified crawl to the après-ski bar.  They also tackle your listener questions on how to style a white vest top for day-to-evening drinks, what to wear to a three-day UK wedding, and the impossible art of wardrobe organisation (spoiler: neither of them has cracked it).  Plus, a new puppy is incoming and leopard print accessories are involved. 33 | Present Parenting: Showing Up as the Mama You Want to Be During Meltdowns

Parenting Beyond Meltdowns is Ranked in the Top 3% of Podcasts Worldwide! Do you ever walk away from a meltdown feeling like you didn’t show up as the mama you wanted to be? Have you wondered how to stay calm and emotionally steady when your strong-willed or neurodivergent child becomes dysregulated? Do you sometimes feel caught between the way you were parented and the kind of present parent you want to become? Wish you could respond with peace instead of reacting in the heat of the moment? In this episode, we’re talking about present parenting and what it means to show up as the mama you want to be during meltdowns. If you’re raising a strong-willed child or neurodivergent child navigating ADHD, ASD, PDA, ODD, or defiant behavior, you know how quickly parenting moments can become emotionally intense. When your child becomes dysregulated, it’s easy for our own emotions to follow. But present parenting invites us to pause, practice emotional regulation, and focus on building connection instead of reacting from pressure or fear. Together we explore how many mamas feel caught between the parenting styles they were raised with and the new path they feel called to take with their child. This episode will encourage you to approach those moments with compassion for yourself while learning how to show up with steadiness and faith. Even in the middle of meltdowns, peace is possible when we anchor ourselves in truth.   Faith Anchor: Ephesians 4:22-24 Reminds us to put off your old self,[a] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Mama, this verse isn’t about perfection. It’s about transformation. Little by little, moment by moment, we are becoming more like the person the Father created us to be.   Challenge of the Week: This week, I want to invite you to pause during just one hard moment with your child and ask yourself one simple question: Who do I want to be in this moment? Not what should my child do. Not how do I stop this behavior quickly. But who do I want to become right now? What version of myself do I want them to see in this moment? Do I want to model for them the easy reaction of the moment or do I want to show them a way that while it may take more practice and patience…will pay dividends into our future? The Night We Rushed Our Son to A&E (And Trusted Our Gut)

Welcome to our snotty nose era. This week we’re talking about a parenting milestone we definitely didn’t see coming so soon… rushing our son to A&E. And...somewhere along the way we’ve become those parents... the ones we used to quietly judge before we had kids... walking around with a permanently snotty child and a bag full of tissues. But along with the sniffles also comes something new: the constant worry of “Is this normal… or is something actually wrong?” In this episode we share what happened the day we had to rush our son to A&E, the panic, the second-guessing, and the fear of wasting everyone’s time. Most importantly, we talk about why trusting your gut as a parent matters - even when you're worried you might be overreacting. Because sometimes your instincts are the most important parenting tool you have. New episodes to watch and listen to EVERY Tuesday.
