The accused, a 38-year-old man known by his surname Jiao, reportedly used makeup, wigs, filters, and voice modulation apps to disguise himself as a married woman, luring hundreds of unsuspecting men to his apartment between 2022 and early 2025. Authorities were alerted when explicit videos—secretly recorded without consent—started surfacing online. It is alleged that over 1,000 intimate videos were leaked across platforms, with at least 237 victims formally identified so far. These clips were reportedly shared through paid groups on apps like Telegram, raising serious concerns about privacy violations, digital safety, and ethical boundaries on social media. Several victims who came forward have also undergone medical testing. As per reports, at least three individuals tested positive for HIV, though no official confirmation has been released connecting this to the accused. Meanwhile, Jiao has been arrested and faces charges under Chinese law for illegally producing and distributing obscene materials, with potential charges for knowingly transmitting a sexually transmitted disease still under investigation. The “Sister Hong scandal” has gone viral across platforms like Weibo, Xiaohongshu, and Reddit, with hashtags like #紅姐 trending globally. While some netizens turned the case into meme content—cosplaying the Sister Hong persona—the gravity of the situation highlights the urgent need for stronger digital privacy laws and awareness around consent and online impersonation.
