Zesty Men, A MAFS' Star’s Wild Surgery Stunt & The Trap of Online Sales

This week’s episode of Let Her Finish is a little bit different… Gracie is at home sick and resting up, Brodie’s off gallivanting around Europe, so you’re joined by Tegan and Ash London! We discuss the shocking Conservation Amendment Bill that’s threatening Aotearoa’s precious land and why it’s so vital that it doesn’t go through. We dive into the exact moment Zendaya fell in love with Tom Holland, and why we love seeing men who are secure enough in their masculinity to be a bit zesty. We cover the unbelievable cosmetic surgery a MAFS Australia star travelled all the way to Bali to undergo. Tegan is still in her Substack era, so she’s sharing some of the best quotes and reads she’s found this week. Plus, we tackle the highly relatable dilemma of scrolling online sales and realising just because it’s discounted, doesn’t mean you need it! “What Are You Actually Building This For?” Seamus & Di’s Emotional 1:1

Seamus arrives feeling it: New baby at home. A World Cup project about to go live. A calendar that was built before either of those things was certain, now collapsing on top of each other. He's saying yes to everything - commentary gigs, MC slots, the lot. And somewhere underneath all of it, he's saying no to the people who matter most without realising that's what he's doing. This one covers the procrastination spiral that kicks in when everything feels urgent and equally important, why knowing the problem isn't enough to change the behaviour, and the question every business owner eventually lands on - what is this thing actually a vehicle for? Turns out the answer sometimes involves goats. Thanks Di! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

GRACE BEVERLEY: What I’ve Learnt From Building TALA & Overcoming Burnout

Grace Beverley has spent the past decade building a career most people can only dream of.  At just 18, she started her first business from her university bedroom. Since then, she’s gone on to build three hugely successful companies, TALA, SHREDDY and The Productivity Method.  I was so excited to sit down with Grace for an episode of Great Company. She’s someone I’ve wanted on the show for a long time and the conversation more than lived up to my expectations.  In this episode, Grace shares:  The burnout that forced her to rethink everything How she learnt to trust herself and build businesses her own wayWhat she’s doing to break the taboo around miscarriages in the workplace Why building a village of friends matters just as much as finding love The story behind her husband’s INSANE proposal  Grace is proof that success is not just about what you build - it’s about the people who stand beside you while you’re building it.  Grace Beverley is Great Company. I had a baby – then lost my memory, part 1

When Samina Ali gave birth to her first child in California in 1999, what should have been a joyful moment quickly turned into a medical emergency. An undiagnosed case of the pregnancy disorder pre-eclampsia led to multiple organ failure, strokes, a brain haemorrhage and grand mal seizure. Within hours of delivering her son, Samina fell into a coma. When she woke five days later, she had no memory of what had happened – or of large parts of her life. She didn’t recognise her husband, and she had no idea she had just become a mother. Samina, who grew up between India and the United States, had built a life around language. A budding novelist, she had always turned to writing as a way to navigate a sense of dislocation between cultures. But now her ability to communicate was also affected – her English fractured, her memories gone, her sense of self profoundly altered. As doctors tried to understand the extent of the damage, her newborn son was being treated in intensive care nearby. Meanwhile, her family responded in different ways – placing their faith in both medical treatment and long-held spiritual beliefs. In the first part of her story, Samina describes the events surrounding the birth of her son, the severity of her illness, and what it meant to wake up without recognising her own life. In part two, she begins the long process of recovery – relearning how to live, and reconnecting with the child she could barely recognise. Samina has written about her experience in her memoir, Pieces You’ll Never Get Back. Presenter: Asya Fouks Producer: Maryam Maruf Editor: Munazza Khan Research: Hetal Bapodra Lives Less Ordinary is a podcast from the BBC World Service that brings you the most incredible true stories from around the world. Inside the Polkinghorne Case & the Mind of NZ's Greatest Writer - Steve Braunias

Steve Braunias sat through every day of the Polkinghorne trial - the society murder that gripped New Zealand - and wrote the bestselling book on it. He liked the accused. He chatted with him every morning. And he more than entertains the possibility that Phil Polkinghorne is an innocent man. In this episode, Steve takes us inside the eight weeks that felt like "a carnival": the forensic evidence that won and lost the case, the missing star witness Madison Ashton, the moment the prosecution's case fell apart, and why the national feeling that "he got away with it" collides with everything the facts say. But this is also the story of one of New Zealand's greatest living writers. The Motley Crüe interview that ended with him thrown against a wall. The letter that got him sacked from the Sunday magazine. Failing out of journalism school, learning to type by copying out Sylvia Plath, and 46 years of skewering phonies and squares - plus the surprisingly tender stuff: his late brother Mark, his daughter Minka, and why his dream is to one day stop writing altogether. Between Two Beers is proudly brought to you by One New Zealand. We believe that One NZ connects New Zealand, while Between Two Beers connects New Zealanders. And together, we are NZ's most trusted connection platform. Steve and Seamus are proud to be dressed by Barkers Clothing. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Emily Watson, actor

Emily Watson is an award-winning actor, widely regarded as one of the finest character actors of her generation. She began her career on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company before rising to prominence in 1996, when she was cast as Bess McNeill in Lars von Trier’s Breaking the Waves. The role earned her an Academy Award nomination. She received a second Oscar nomination for Hilary and Jackie, for which she learned to play the cello to portray Jacqueline du Pré. Watson has built a reputation for a level of commitment that is as intense as it is acclaimed. She describes her craft not merely as a profession but as a profound internal necessity, stating: "I love the sense of creating and inhabiting something. That feeling of making it feel magically real. That's the addiction". She grew up in London and was a passionate reader before leaving home to study English at Bristol University. Her parents were members of the School of Economic Science which proscribed that followers eschew TV and popular culture. Emily joined in with the university drama productions and followed her passion, with her parents’ blessing, to pursue a career in acting. Emily Watson lives in London with her husband, and they have two children. Presenter Lauren Laverne Producer Sarah Taylor Desert Island Discs has cast other actors away over the years including Emily’s fellow actor from Hamnet, Jessie Buckley. The writer, Maggie O’Farrell is in there too along with Emily’s friend from university, the writer David Nicholls. You can hear their programmes if you search through BBC Sounds or our own Desert Island Discs website.

The Surprising Link Between Your DNA And Your Gut

Can your genes influence what you eat, how your gut works, and even why coriander tastes like soap to some people? This week on Well, food and nutrition scientist Dr Emma Beckett cuts through the noise around gut health and explains what the science actually says. From probiotics and Greek yoghurt to taste receptors hidden throughout your gut, we unpack the surprising ways genetics shape our relationship with food. Dr Beckett reveals why one-size-fits-all nutrition advice doesn't work, what the microbiome can (and can't) tell us about health, and why the wellness industry's obsession with gut hacks may be missing the point. Plus, Dr Mariam answers a listener's question about constipation, ageing and menopause, and explains why some gut symptoms deserve a closer look. Sid the seagull and the Slip Slop Slap campaign

In 1981, Australia launched a fight against skin cancer with help from a yellow cartoon seagull and a catchy jingle. The Slip Slop Slap campaign was created by an advertising team of Phillip Adams, Peter Best and Alex Stitt. The three men gave their services for free to help the Cancer Council Victoria charity spread the message. Soon, Australians began to slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat in response to a warning by Sid the seagull. Today, the campaign is widely credited in helping change attitudes to sun protection. Professor David Hill, former head of the charity, talks to Jane Wilkinson about how it happened. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by and curious about the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from how the Excel spreadsheet was developed, the creation of cartoon rabbit Miffy and how the sound barrier was broken. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: the moment Reagan and Gorbachev met in Geneva, Haitian singer Emerante de Pradines’ life and Omar Sharif’s legendary movie entrance in Lawrence of Arabia. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, like the invention of a stent which has saved lives around the world; the birth of the G7; and the meeting of Maldives’ ministers underwater. We cover everything from World War Two and Cold War stories to Black History Month and our journeys into space. (Photo: Sid the seagull, 1981. Credit: Cancer Council Victoria)
