Galloping forth, Santa’s Ghetto, and petty revenge!

In this episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah are ready to swing open the stable door, be slapped on the rumps, and gallop forth into 2026 for the year of the horse! They share their theme words for the year, vaguely remember what they promised themselves for the previous year, and are off on an ambitious trajectory, considering they're but a few weeks in. Slightly overwhelmed by being in a real-life studio, they recover to tidy up a bit of salutations housekeeping, Matty shares her first rant for the year, and a new cosy crime investigation is launched. What do you have to say for yourselves Warkworth??? (Any tips, leads, suspects or evidence to report? Email hello@untidypodcast.com or DM us immediately.)  Hannah high-fives a fellow butt-hose enthusiast and shares a 'chef's kiss' listener story of her petty revenge. As always, thanks for being here. It means the world! Send in your words of the year, petty dramas and revenge stories, and anything else you would like to report!  If you’re enjoying Untidy, the best way to show your support is by tapping the ‘+ follow’ button in your podcast app and subscribing on YouTube! REPLAY: Anyone else feeling overwhelmed by motherhood? Being compassionate with ourselves - with Belinda Haan

This week we are replaying this episode which contains honest, personal discussions about difficult emotions such as rage and anger. Motherhood provides plenty of experiences of joy, love and gratitude but it also contains frustration, exhaustion, anger and overwhelm among many other emotional states.  When we know that difficult emotions are an inherent part of motherhood, and being human, it can help us feel less alone or prevent us from experiencing shame. Emotions are an automatic response to internal or external stimuli. We don’t get to choose what arises but we can learn to work with what comes up and how to meet our needs to feel okay.  There were a few ideas shared on how to work with difficult emotions on this episode and there are plenty more in The Emotional Support for Mothers toolkit. However, we all know that the reality is that it can be hard to experience and make sense of these emotions on our own.  If you are experiencing persistent painful feelings you need and deserve love, care and support. Please contact your doctor to discuss how to get the compassionate support you deserve.  Here are some free resources that may support you: Postnatal Rage: Centre for Perinatal Excellence (COPE) Gidget Foundation PANDA Beyond Blue Working with our triggers: free guided reflection coming soon - sign up here.  The Emotional Support for Mothers toolkit    Beyond the Bump is a podcast brought to you by Jayde Couldwell and Sophie Pearce! 590 | Maddy - Three vaginal births, MGP care, third-degree tear recovery

Maddy, a registered nurse and mother of three from the Central Coast of New South Wales, takes us through her complete birth journey. Her story beautifully illustrates how subsequent births can offer profound healing opportunities, especially with the right support team and birth education. Maddy's first birth was an induction which resulted in significant perineal trauma, and postpartum haemorrhage. However, her second and third births through Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) care demonstrate the transformative power of continuity of care, informed choice, and trusting your body's ability to birth. Fan Favourite Encore: Dr Stacy Sims

In this fan favourite episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah are joined by internationally renowned exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist Dr Stacy Sims — a trailblazer on a mission to revolutionise how women train, eat, and perform. Known for her viral TED Talk “Women Are Not Small Men”, bestselling book Roar, and over 100 peer-reviewed papers, Stacy has dedicated her career to closing the gender gap in sports science. In this conversation, she dives into the often-overlooked physiological and emotional challenges girls face during puberty — challenges that are too often misunderstood or ignored, causing many to lose confidence and drop out of sport. With her new course NEXT GEN, Stacy is focused on educating coaches and parents to better support developing girls. She explores how puberty impacts performance, confidence, and injury risk, and why it’s crucial to rethink how we train and talk to our daughters. From the damaging effects of language like “girl pushups” and “sissy squats,” to the ripple effects of diet culture and uniform design, Stacy highlights the changes we need to make — and how to do it. This episode is a rallying cry to shift the culture around girls’ health, sport, and self-image — and to give them the tools, language, and support they deserve. #159. Lucy's 3 positive births (2 birthcentre, 1 homebirth)

Lucy shares the whirlwind story of welcoming three babies ina very short space of time — Eddie, Alice, and Walter. Lucy reflects on her first pregnancy with Eddie, including going overdue (to 41+6), a fast first labour, and what it felt like navigating the “overdue” pressure. She alsoshares the surprise twist of falling pregnant with baby number two just a few months after Eddie arrived, and the mental shift that came with realising youcan feel confident advocating for what’s right for you. A big theme in Lucy’s story is postpartum and feeding — shespeaks really openly about breastfeeding challenges (flat nipples, pain, mastitis, mixed advice, and the emotional impact), and what ultimately helped her bond and feel more at peace. With each pregnancy, Lucy grew in confidence, leaned into hypnobirthing tools more deeply, and also drew on her own physical strength — including staying active right through pregnancy — to cope with back-to-back pregnancies while parenting little ones at the same time. Lucy’s third birth with Walter (a Christmas Eve baby) camewith a bit of a curve ball. She shares what helped her stay grounded, and the magic of welcoming Walter at home with big siblings meeting their baby brother in the most beautiful way. Lucy's advice to her pre-pregnant self is "do the hypnobirthing course in the first pregnancy" - so if that's you, wondering if you should, or not, jump onto www.positivebirths.co.nz and check out your range of options. Your future self will thank the you of now!

Separation Anxiety, Meltdowns... The Solution Is Often in Our Face

Janet responds to questions from two parents who describe their sensitive children struggling with separation, transitions, and general emotional overwhelm. One writes, “I go into panic mode when I see his eyes widen with worry,” while another admits, “I often see the meltdown coming… and don’t know how to help without making it worse.” Both parents admit they have their own strong emotional reactions to their kids' struggles including fear, guilt, and self-doubt. Janet points out how our own discomfort can exacerbate our children's, and how caring for ourselves is both compassionate and foundational to effective parenting. She offers solutions how these parents might more readily trust their children to feel and process their discomfort.  Janet's "No Bad Kids Master Course" is available at NoBadKidsCourse.com and JanetLansbury.com.
