  • Is this under 6s footy or military training?

Is this under 6s footy or military training?

We're back from Bali and straight back into the grind... turns out inner peace has a shelf life of about four days. This week we air out: the internet refusing to believe a dry shampoo actually works, a dummy addiction that needs to end, and whether kids these days are getting more entitled or if we just sound like our parents now. We get into gratitude, discipline, and Ben's under 6s rugby coaching career (verdict: slightly feared, weirdly effective), plus the great ‘simple 90s birthday party vs full production’ debate - lolly bags, ice cream trucks, and whether asking for $5 instead of plastic crap makes you a good parent or a cheapskate. 632 | Alex - ten year fertility journey, ectopic pregnancy, unexplained infertility, IVF, vaginal birth

In this episode I chat to Alex, a yoga and bodywork facilitator from Hobart, about the ten year journey she and her husband David went through to become parents. Alex takes us through years of unexplained infertility, a life threatening ectopic pregnancy, multiple rounds of IVF, several miscarriages and the moment she finally made peace with a child-free future, only to fall pregnant naturally soon after. She speaks so openly about the mental health toll of fertility treatment, the identity shifts along the way, and her vaginal birth following a two-day labour and augmentation. This is a raw, generous conversation for anyone whose path to motherhood hasn't gone to plan. Today’s episode is brought to you by Nutra Naturals. Made from Australian grass-fed beef and pasture-raised chicken bones, Nutra Naturals’ award-winning bone broths are slowly cooked and concentrated into either a rich paste or convenient powder. Shop online at nutranaturals.com.au. Use the code AUSBIRTHSTORIES at checkout to get 20% off. A Different Take on Screen Time - Revisit

We all know too much screen time isn’t good for kids—and our instinct as parents is to protect them from it. But when fear shapes how we manage screens at home, it can quickly turn into shame the moment they pick one up. In today’s world, where screens are woven into so much of daily life, the real challenge is to face that reality with thoughtfulness – and to make choices guided by our values, not by guilt. In this favorite episode from the archive, Dr. Becky sits down with screen time expert Ash Brandon, EdS (@thegamereducator) to talk about the moral judgments, practical boundaries, and family-specific choices that shape our approach to screens. * Thank you to our partners for making this episode possible: SmartyPants: Shop SmartyPants Vitamins at Target, Walmart, or Amazon today Frida: Shop Frida at Amazon, Target, and Walmart today Pampers Easy Ups: Start your potty training journey with Peppa Pig Pampers Easy Ups Care.com: For a limited time, you can use the code BECKY35 to save 35% on a Care.com Premium Membership.* *Offer applies to initial term of Care.com membership subscriptions. Did Someone Suggest a Spring Break? | Migraines, teething and a rebuild on the rocks

This week Beth has given a little bit of extra and unexpected love to her first baby, PowerBirth  which comes heavy with logistics, literal migraines, a lot of moving parts, but also loads of gratitude and joy. There’s something really lovely about returning to a part of yourself and your work that you’ve had to put down for a while, and remembering just how much you love it. Lil’s baby is teething. So her household has officially had a case of the grizzle grumps. But, as we know all too well, growing teeth isn’t easy - hence the entire premise of this segment: growing pains can be literal growing pains. Meanwhile, Lil is teetering on the edge of falling off her rebuild bandwagon and has decided that perhaps the rebuild is actually a magnesium hot chocolate in bed, a Strawberry Vanilla Burst Loco Love  and a Kindle. And honestly? Who are we to argue with that. That is actual self care. Pssttt.. Beth has a code for the hot choc: BIRTHWITHBETH  She’s also recommending that everyone in her life listen to The Imperfects episode on Matrescence that includes you glimmer girls.  Beth is loving her Aesop body wash and Mixa moisturiser and her current rebuild is simple: upping her steps, especially now she can get out and about a little more easily with the twins. And an honourable mention goes to the Babybee LUNA2 Double Pram Lil picked hers up on Marketplace and, full disclosure, Beth has worked with Babybee — but the sentiment remains: that’s a bloody great double pram for getting two babies in and out of the car. And as always, come hang out with us over on Instagram @Growingthepodcast and tell us what you’re growing through, what your current rebuild looks like and, most importantly, what you’re currently recommending to your fellow Glimmer Girls.

  • Is one of us parenting wrong, or just differently?

Is one of us parenting wrong, or just differently?

This week we are breaking down our parenting styles... why one of us can't let the other parent without hovering, whether Mitre 10 counts as quality time, and the great "gentle parenting vs your kids need structure" comment section debate. We do some research into our actual parenting styles (reactive vs high intensity, apparently), argue about lunchbox surveillance, and somehow end up questioning whether "symbiotic" is a real word. But never fear, we finish off by putting on the gentle wash and saying the nice things out loud for once. Homework this week: give your partner 30 seconds before you jump in. We'll wait. Episode 138: Sensory sensitivities & Mad Max Fury Road'/

Every child experiences the world differently, and Mad Max: Fury Road gives us the perfect lens to explore why. In this episode on Sensory Sensitivities we dive into the science of sensory processing, including all eight senses, and what it means for the children we love and care for. We discuss how the brain decides what to notice and what to ignore, why some kids seem to need more of everything while others are easily overwhelmed, and why so much of what looks like difficult behaviour is actually a child doing their best to regulate a nervous system that works differently. We also explore interoception, the internal sense that connects our bodies to our emotions, and why it matters so much for kids. The question we keep coming back to isn't whether a child has sensory sensitivities, but how those sensitivities shape their experience of daily life. We hope this episode helps you see the children you care for with fresh eyes and we can't wait to read your reflections, questions and advice.
