Jay takes four listener calls exploring conflict, relationships, and the pressure to constantly prove yourself. From repairing relationships after a fight to finding peace without closing yourself off to love, Jay offers practical advice on speaking up for yourself, letting go of the need for validation, and recognizing the difference between excitement and anxiety when dating someone new. Consciousness Beyond the Brain: What Nearly Dying Taught Me | Robert Greene

What if your consciousness was never locked inside your head in the first place? Robert Greene, the best-selling author of The Law of the Sublime, sat down with Lewis for his sixth visit, eight years after a stroke nearly took his life. His wife saw his slurred words and drooping face, made him pull over, and called 911 about 30 seconds before he would have been brain dead. He came back to a world that seemed to sparkle, and he spent seven years writing so you could feel that without having to die. He explains why a small child gives 90% of their attention to the world while most adults give 98% to themselves, and how that shift feeds anxiety and addiction. One story stays with you: a woman in surgery, with no brain activity and her ears plugged, later described the drill and the Hotel California song playing in the room. Robert talks through near-death experience research and the old idea that awareness might run through everything, along with what his marriage taught him about letting the ego go quiet. When this one ends, you'll want to step outside and look up at the sky. Then you'll look a little longer at the person you love. 476. Why you need more rituals!

In a culture increasingly organised around productivity and individual choice, many of our repeated behaviours have become about efficiency rather than meaning. In this episode, we explore why even very small rituals - a meal, a walk, a song, a candle - can give shape and significance to ordinary life, particularly in our 20s. Watch on Netflix: HERE We explore: Why rituals aren’t just religious or spiritual Why performing rituals is an integral part of human behaviour How rituals create belonging and maintain relationships How predictable rituals can provide an anchor during uncertainty, overwhelm and periods of change Why our 20s may particularly benefit from rituals The importance of ritualising endings Follow Jemma on Instagram: @jemmasbeg Follow the podcast on Instagram: @thatpsychologypodcast Subscribe on Substack: @thepsychologyofyour20s For business: psychologyofyour20s@gmail.com  Our favourite sources:https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1088868317734944 https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S109051381500077X https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00084298241238680 https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1545-5300.1992.00151.x  The Psychology of your 20s is not a substitute for professional mental health help. Say More F*** Offs, Give Your Life More Attention | Life in Progress Podcast

Everyone else is noise. Your life deserves your attention. I’m recording this one from Marrakech, where I’ve been reading a lot about Islamic teachings. In this episode, I share the ones I apply to my own life. I talk about why I keep “high visibility, low emotional access” online, why you don’t owe anyone your time or energy, and why I’ll never apologize for the life I built. I also get into self-accounting, financial empowerment, untapped potential, and the small, consistent actions behind 15 years of Access Travel. Before you point a finger at someone else, ask yourself: what am I getting out of this? Tell me in the comments: what are your intentions for your life, and where are you giving your attention right now? Public Speaking Is a Skill, Not a Personality | Vinh Giang

Your voice feels like who you are, but it might just be a habit you picked up as a kid. Vinh Giang, a communication coach with more than 17 million followers, sat down with Lewis to talk about public speaking and confidence, and why the way you sound can change faster than you think. He changed his own name at 14 to break free of being the bullied, stone-faced kid who barely spoke English. He gives you a 15 minute exercise: record yourself talking for five minutes, then review it with the sound only, then with the picture only, then as a transcript. Pick one fix from each pass. One of his students just spoke louder, used their hands and dropped the ums, and came across like a different person. Then it gets personal. Vinh tells the story of his uncle Yibet, who captained the family's boat out of Vietnam and left the love of his life behind, a story he only found the courage to write in Before We Forget How to Connect. The next time something feels fake when you try it, you might hear Vinh's reminder that it is just unfamiliar.
