Why Modern Therapy Doesn’t Work | Bryan Laughlin | Grimké Chapel

More and more of the people in your pews are quietly asking the same question: where can I go to be healed? In this chapel message, Bryan Laughlin preaches from Psalm 139 to confront the answer our culture keeps giving — modern therapy — and to show why a system built on the assumption that we can heal ourselves can never reach the place we’re actually broken. Tracing the secular foundations laid by Freud, Jung, Skinner, and others, Laughlin exposes a movement with no basis for health and no reason for life, then turns to the only One who made us, knows us, and helps us. Pastors will walk away with renewed confidence that they do not need to outsource the cure of souls, and every listener will be pressed with the question that decides everything: do you really believe Jesus is a Healer? Making Sense of a World Filled With Evil | Joe Holland | Grimké Chapel

How does a pastor sit with someone who has suffered horrific evil and speak comfort that does not ring hollow? Joe Holland preached from Psalm 10 on the tension every minister will eventually feel: real, named wickedness in the world, and yet a sovereign, good God on the throne. Tracing the three lies the wicked tell about God against the counter-truths God speaks back in his Word, Holland brings students to the cross, where the goodness of God and the reality of evil are finally held together without flinching. Listen and be equipped to name evil as evil, rejoice that you yourself were once an enemy redeemed, and carry the hope of the risen Christ to the worst of the worst. Caught People Catch People | Matt Cohen | Grimké Chapel

Matt Cohen preached from Luke 5:1–11 — the miraculous catch of fish — calling pastors and pastors-in-training to a lifetime of faithful, bold, joyful, optimistic ministry. Drawing Peter forward as a model, Cohen showed that this is no story about fish but a sign: Jesus is sovereign over the catch, and he loves to save sinners through ordinary servants who never grow bored holding out the gospel. The exhortation is simple and steadying — caught people catch people, so keep your eyes on the One doing the catching, and go fishing for him. Want to help us reach more pastors and churches? Look to the Lord | Mark Becton | Grimké Chapel

Dr. Mark Becton preached from Psalm 123, calling students to lift their eyes above the distractions that quietly overwhelm them — fears, worthless masters, hopelessness, and the belittling voices both around and within. Becton reminded graduates and students alike that the same God who delivered his people then is the good Master they serve now. Once you have looked to the Lord and worshiped him, look again at all that once overwhelmed you — you will see it differently in the light of who he is and who you are in him. SKIP AHEAD. The Pastor's Calling | Doug Ponder | Grimké Chapel

Dr. Doug Ponder preached from 1 Peter 5:1–4 on the pastor's calling, the threats that endanger it, and the power to see it through to the end. What quietly pulls a pastor off course — and what keeps him standing when ministry feels long and unglorious? In this chapel message, Ponder calls pastors and pastors-in-training to keep their eyes on the prize and hold on, trusting that their labor in the Lord is not in vain. SKIP AHEAD. The Deadliest Catch | David Schrock | Grimké Chapel

At our spring intensive, Dr. David Schrock preached from Luke 5:1–11 — the account of Peter's miraculous catch of fish — tracing how that story fulfills the promise of Jeremiah 16:16 to send fishers of men. Schrock called students to understand that for those in pastoral ministry, work and worship are inseparable. He warned them that while weariness in ministry is expected, weariness of ministry is dangerous, and urged them to bring every empty net, every sin, and every burden back to Christ — the one who raises the dead and promises grace for a lifetime of faithful service. Serving the Lord Faithfully | Doug Logan | Grimké Chapel

At Grimké Seminary's Spring 2026 graduation chapel, President Doug Logan, Jr. preached from 1 Samuel 12:24 — "Above all, fear the Lord and worship him faithfully with your whole heart" — calling graduates to a lifetime of wholehearted faithfulness to God as king, reminding them that while man is the antithesis of faithfulness, God is inherently and endlessly faithful, and charging them to build their ministries not on platforms or impact, but on reverential awe, wholehearted obedience, and simple fidelity to Christ and his Word.
