Young speakers of the Monegasque language were honoured at the annual language competition, while Monaco also commemorated General Charles de Gaulle’s historic Appeal of 18 June with official ceremonies and a musical tribute. Sport and environmental awareness came together during The Crossing, as competitors completed a 225-kilometre Waterbike relay from Italy to Monaco in support of ocean conservation. Monaco also hosted a major discussion on women’s rights during its Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, while the Financial Action Task Force recognised significant progress in the Principality’s anti-money laundering reforms. Minister of State Christophe Mirmand presented Monaco’s European priorities before the Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg, as the Principality continued its six-month presidency. Around 30 new police recruits officially joined the Directorate of Public Safety after completing their training as the Charlotte Casiraghi Class of 2026, and the latest edition of Monaco in Numbers offered a detailed snapshot of the Principality’s economy and population.     This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest news from Monaco. Young people took centre stage on June 11 as Monaco’s Youth Advisory Committee gathered for its eighth session at Lycée Rainier III. Around 20 representatives from schools, associations and socio-educational centres came together to discuss the issues that matter most to the Principality’s younger generation, ensuring their voices continue to play a role in shaping Monaco’s future. A powerful moment of solidarity unfolded in Port Hercule as the Sails of Hope flotilla arrived in Monaco. The initiative welcomed 80 children in cancer remission aboard 40 sailing boats, offering a week of adventure, friendship and personal growth designed to help them move beyond the challenges of illness. Sporting achievement was celebrated during Monaco’s UNSS awards ceremony, where nearly 140 students were recognised for their performances, commitment and fair play throughout the school year. At the National Council, elected officials adopted a series of significant social reforms aimed at strengthening support for vulnerable residents. The measures include improvements to disability legislation, enhanced assistance for families and the creation of a new legal status for carers. In France, Fight Aids Monaco marked the 16th anniversary of the Maison de Vie in Carpentras with the inauguration of a new creative arts space. Designed for residents living with HIV, the project encourages self-expression and personal development through artistic activities. Elite athletes gathered in the region for the fourth Monaco Water Ski Cup, where many of the world's top competitors went head-to-head in slalom and tricks competitions on Lac du Vaudois in Roquebrune-sur-Argens. Monaco also welcomed delegates from French and Italian municipalities linked to the Grimaldi dynasty for the seventh Meeting of Historic Grimaldi Sites. The celebrations continued with a spectacular sound and light show projected onto the façade of the Prince’s Palace. The immersive display retraced the history of the Grimaldi family and highlighted the enduring connections between Monaco and its historic territories. The spotlight then turned to the Grimaldi Forum as the 65th Monte-Carlo Television Festival welcomed international stars, industry leaders and television fans from around the world. Opened by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, the festival once again confirmed its place among the most prestigious events in global television. The Principality also strengthened international economic relations as India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, visited Monaco for high-level meetings with government officials aimed at deepening cooperation and expanding bilateral opportunities. Meanwhile, Monaco placed the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing high on the European agenda by hosting a major conference in Strasbourg during its presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Representatives from all 46 member states gathered to discuss emerging financial threats and international cooperation. In sport, the Roca Team responded emphatically in the Betclic Elite finals, defeating Paris Basketball 102-90 to level the championship series at one game apiece. Led by standout performances from Matthew Strazel and Alpha Diallo, Monaco reclaimed home-court advantage ahead of the next games at Gaston Médecin. The Racing Stars Football Cup returned ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, with the Barbagiuans de Monaco defeating the Nazionale Piloti 6-2 in front of a packed crowd. Formula 1 drivers Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz and Isack Hadjar joined football legends and entertainers in support of charitable causes. As Grand Prix weekend got underway, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene visited the circuit to meet some of the hundreds of people working behind the scenes. The Princely Couple attended the presentation of the Monaco Fire Brigade’s new emergency vehicles before greeting volunteers from the Monegasque Red Cross. Formula 1 fever swept through the Principality as thousands of fans gathered in La Condamine and along the pit lane to catch a glimpse of the sport’s biggest names. Charles Leclerc received a hero’s welcome from local supporters, while Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly and Kimi Antonelli were also greeted by enthusiastic crowds. On race day, Kimi Antonelli continued his remarkable season by claiming victory at the Monaco Grand Prix. The young Mercedes driver converted pole position into a fifth consecutive win despite a dramatic race featuring multiple incidents, Safety Cars and a red flag. In business news, the Federation of Monegasque Enterprises made its debut at the Entreprenariales trade fair in Nice. The event focused on strengthening economic cooperation across the Riviera and highlighted opportunities for regional development. Monaco’s home-grown martial art Paijeda gained international recognition at UNESCO’s annual Sport and Well-being Day. The record performance was driven by growth across hospitality, gaming and property activities. Monaco’s Attractiveness Unit has also entered a new chapter with its rebranding as Invest Monaco. The new identity is designed to strengthen the Principality’s international profile while supporting entrepreneurs, investors and new residents looking to establish themselves in Monaco. In sport, the Roca Team booked its place in a fifth consecutive Betclic Élite final after defeating Nanterre to win their semi-final series. Bringing together more than 300 investors, business leaders, policymakers and scientists, the event focused on turning ocean conservation into concrete investment opportunities and accelerating sustainable economic growth. Monaco’s ambitions beyond Earth also took a major step forward. On May 28, NASA confirmed the selection of Venturi Astrolab as one of two suppliers for a crewed lunar rover for the Artemis programme. The vehicle will incorporate wheel and battery technologies developed by Monaco-based Venturi Space, placing Monegasque innovation at the heart of future Moon exploration. In education, the first phase of the renovation of Lycée Albert Ier has been completed ahead of this year’s baccalaureate examinations. The upgraded facilities include renovated classrooms, improved insulation, modern ventilation systems and air conditioning, providing a more comfortable learning environment for students. Environmental awareness is taking centre stage along the Larvotto promenade, where Prince Albert II inaugurated a new open-air photography exhibition on May 29. Featuring 36 powerful images highlighting wildlife, natural beauty and the effects of climate change, the exhibition forms part of the Environmental Photography Award organised by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Monaco’s athletes also delivered strong performances at the European Athletics Championships for Small States, held at Stade Louis II on May 30 and 31. More than 250 competitors from 17 nations took part, while the event served as an important rehearsal ahead of the Games of the Small States of Europe, which Monaco will host next year. Across the Atlantic, the historic yacht Twiga has arrived in New York ahead of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. The flagship of the Yacht Club de Monaco will participate in what is expected to be the largest peacetime naval parade ever organised in the United States. Marine protection remains high on Monaco’s agenda as celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the RAMOGE Agreement got underway in Genoa. The initiative, launched in 1976 at the request of Prince Rainier III, has played a key role in protecting nearly 23,000 square kilometres of Mediterranean waters shared by Monaco, France and Italy. On the diplomatic front, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene travelled to Madrid on June 1 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Monaco’s diplomatic representation in Spain, highlighting the longstanding relationship between the two nations. The Automobile Club de Monaco hosted its annual charity gala in support of the Cédric and Christophe Flaujac Foundation, raising funds to help young athletes from Monaco and the surrounding region pursue their sporting ambitions. In basketball, the Roca Team’s Betclic Élite semi-final series against Nanterre is finely poised at 1-1. Monaco opened with an impressive 103-88 victory before Nanterre responded with a crucial road win to level the series and seize home-court advantage heading into the next games.
