MARK WATSON • "You must be tired!" (Before It Overtakes Us / Murder Of A Famous Bastard / No More Jockeys) #678

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! This week Pip is joined by the very hilarious comic, writer and podcaster MARK WATSON! You can go ahead and add "long overdue guest" somewhere in the salutation there too, as Mark is someone who's been missing from the DPP alumni for way too long. Mark's been busy performing comedy all around the globe for a minute, and at some point you will have heard Pip proclaim his love for 'No More Jockeys' - the theme quiz with Tim Key, Alex Horne and Mark, so you'll likely know him from at least one point of entry. If not, fear not, as this is a lovely chat where no former knowledge is required! Pip and Mark go into several menu items including the perils of being 40+ (get your ailments bingo card prepped), peeing in odd places like a regular stray dog, getting lifts with parents as an adult, famous contacts in one's phone, riders at shows (ie backstage snax, beverages and more), surprise Mum spottings, squeezing material out of rugged situations when it might be better to just not have the situation, and his new podcast project (link below). Enjoy! Today, we catch up with David Earl & Joe Wilkinson, originally episode 99 from 2016-05-24. Original writeup below: Welcome, welcome, welcome to your 99th - NINETY NINTH - Wednesday-fresh instalment of the powerful, the savage, the almighty Distraction Pieces podcast. This week is a tag-team of sorts - it's the UK comedy gems David Earl & Joe Wilkinson! You probably know David Earl from his cringingly brilliant 'Brian Gittins' character, or 'Cumbo', and perhaps you've see Joe Wilkinson holding it down on '8 Out of 10 Cats' (and the Countdown cross-pollenation) and in various TV spots - well whether you do or not, now is your chance to get on a perfect level with the two of 'em, as Pip delves all the way into their backgrounds and presents in a lovely chat with a ton of awesome backstories, gossip, and the journey from the early days up to now and what the future holds. Naturally there is some good Ricky Gervais talk ('Derek' and so much more), UK comedy science as we hear from David and how Brian Gittins happened, and of course their new combined project 'Rovers'! So much. A full on entertainment showdown. PROFESSOR GREEN (rap / TV & film / mental health advocacy) • Friday Rewind

emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Professor Green, originally episode 223 from 2018-08-15. Original writeup below: As always with the Distraction Pieces Podcast, the chat does most definitely NOT focus on the main aspect you might be expecting, but covers a crazy amount of ground in the time the two have. And what a range on offer… Mr Green is clearly suffering from the after effects of some good time fun (with mate Example) the previous night but comes through it in fine form, leaping from topic to topic with ease, including how hard it must be to be a horrible bastard, the current state of society, news overload, the loss of hands-on skills, his insane experiences in solitary (for documentary reasons), dealing with the stress and fear of negative emotions, feeling the feels and not using crutches, troubled past, how folk can become comfortable and not take part in society, the greater subject of dogs and his own documentary work on what are considered difficult breeds, education, role models, Brexit, his touring days with Lily Allen and the difference in live music these days. All with tons in between of course. So dig deep and enjoy this in depth chat with Professor Green! emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Rahul Kholi, originally episode 355 from 2020-11-25. Original writeup below: An ALMOST in person DPP right here - well, Pip and the guest being in the same city, in a country far far away from their respective homesteads anyway - please enjoy a brilliantly upfront and honest chat with actor RAHUL KOHLI! I say upfront and honest - basically it’s one where sentiments aren’t hinted at, and feelings and thoughts are addressed in a mature and adult manner. He and Pip are currently in Vancouver, Canada, in the midst of filming in some very airtight pandemic conditions. You can hear all about that, which of course branches out into how life is in Canada, viewing the pandemic from a different country, the attitudes in the US, race and the media, privilege, social media tone deafness, becoming a Twitter celeb (not as glamorous as it sounds), what re-Trump-ing says about you, Mike Bithell and the amazing North Star Rising project he and Pip guested on, auditions, gaming voiceovers, acting, and the many intricate nuances of invoking Bollywood. It’s a packed one and it’s great. Get yerself in a listening situation. MARK JENKIN • a Cornish Affirmative from an audience of one (Bait / Enys Men / Rose Of Nevada) #675

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! This week Pip is joined by Cornwall's finest and UK film making royalty MARK JENKIN! A total gem of an episode here, whether you are a heavyweight devotee of Mark's film output or if this is the first time you're hearing about him. Mark's got many years in the game, and in an era where almost every single thing feels digital, his approach to film making is almost as aesthetically radical as it comes - using all analogue gear, and a truly unique attitude to post-sync sound too. This chat gets into many eras and processes, including the origins of Bait (2019) which stem back to decades ago, how to tour a film, making films for an audience of self, representing the working class in an honourable way, Cornwall stereotypes, falling in love with the film making process again via Super8 cameras, the music making process and how said sync work happens. Genuine good stuff for the films heads (and, as said, those not familiar - everyone will get something from this). Oh and just TRY not to incorporate the Cornish Affirmative into you daily parlance. You can't eat the view! –––––––––– ROSE OF NEVADA is still showing in UK cinemas and on Monday 13 July will screen at BFI IMAX, Britain’s biggest screen, with a live score performed by The Cornish Sound Unit (Mark Jenkin and Dion Star).   On 24 August it will be released on BFI Blu-ray/DVD and streaming exclusively on BFI Player. A BFI Blu-ray box set, THE CORNISH TRILOGY, containing BAIT, ENYS MEN and ROSE OF NEVADA is released the same day. –––––––––– PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting nature ROSE OF NEVADA ENYS MEN BAIT ROSE OF NEVADA SOUNDTRACK (and more • Invada Records) PIP x TOMO CAMPBELL @ HARRY STYLES MELTDOWN • SOUTHBANK CENTRE SPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTORE PIP TWITCH • (music stuff) PIP INSTAGRAM PIP TWITTER PIP PATREON PIP IMDB Hosted on Acast.
