MixItUpChicas: (imperfect) moms keeping it real

Colette & Somanette

We are just two chicas trying to get this parenting thing as close to alright to raise healthy, happy kids. We will have conversations about the realities of mommyhood, raising multicultural and biracial families, the struggles as working moms, "MixItUp" sometimes with special topics or guests to make us better individuals, and whatever else comes up. We are not professional bloggers or podcasters, we're just trying to keep things real and hope some will hear their voices in ours. We hope you'll join us on this journey and help us form a community when raising a family can feel like the toughest, yet, most rewarding, job in the world!

Ep 19 Sleep Talk, I'm Addicted

On this episode, I talk about the wonderful power of sleep. I’ve had a taste and I’m addicted. Chasing that sleep high when I can. And, to round off the segment, one of the killjoys to my sleep, the family bed!  Well, it sort of can put a damper on my sleep when you have a toddler who takes over your bed. Join me in this episode as I sleep-talk. I might just sound a little “extra” on it, but really, it does a body good! On a separate note, please bear with me as I work through sound technicalities. I’m working on it. Thanks! We’d LOVE to hear from you!  Ask us questions and share what you do to keep your family organized! show@mixitupchicas.com ~ The Chicas Connect with us on our website: http://mixitupchicas.com   Tweet us at: @mixitupchicas   Like us on FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mixitupchicas-Podcast/1678379385727914   How much are you enjoying our intro/outro music?  We LOVE it and makes us want to dance! Ep 17 Gym Anyone, Stress & Fiancés

Colette and Moné check in this week. How did they do getting started with those health goals? From “spin” talk, zone training, and even Bikram yoga, what are the sisters up to? Then we move into the topic of STRESS. We all have it, and so Colette and Moné GO IN DEEP on this topic and learn a bit more about good stress, bad stress and what to do about it! Lastly, each show, we are going to keep with the theme of a pop culture segment, now called, “What’s On And Poppin’.” And, on this episode Moné tells us about her latest binge watch with “Flesh and Bones” and the sisters go in on the season finale of “90-Day Fiancé,” so tune in to hear the latest. Ep 16 New Journey - Getting Healthy, Real Weight Loss

Moné joins Colette on this twist for a MixItUpChicas show.  Getting a jumpstart on our “new years resolutions.” Hopefully its more than just that, and we'd like our podcast to help hold us to it! So, join in! Listen as we talk about our reasons for getting healthy, pitfalls we often run into, tips, tricks when you work a hectic job and can’t find time for a true lunch break, and setting our intentions. From mindful eating to “treat yo-self”….like a toddler that is, listen in to ways we want to kick start this journey.  And, please pardon the editing (rather minimal editing). There comes a point you just have to let things go and not make yourself crazy. When it’s the wee hours of the day, well, that’s what you must decide. The struggle is real.   We’d LOVE to hear from you!  Ask us questions and share your getting healthy stories, tips and struggles at: show@mixitupchicas.com ~ The Chicas Connect with us on our website: http://mixitupchicas.com   Tweet us at: @mixitupchicas   Like us on FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mixitupchicas-Podcast/1678379385727914   How much are you enjoying our intro/outro music?  We LOVE it and makes us want to dance! Episode 13 She's Baaackkkk!!

Yes Somanette’s backkkkk!  Or is it Somanette’s Back?!?!?!? Either way, the chicas, Colette and Somanette have back to school on their minds, specifically kindergarten.  And it’s not your mother’s kindergarten anymore.  Nowadays, five year olds are given language arts pre-assessments.  Can they identify uppercase and lowercase letters, give rhyming words, and explain concepts of print? What happened to learning to share, taking turns, napping, playing and being five year olds? What’s happening to education in America?  We may not have the answer to that question but we do have A plus news and tips to share regarding co-sleeping transitions.  Listen and find out! Here are the products we mentioned (we are not sponsored, nor are we affiliates): The book Somanette talked about: http://www.amazon.com/Smartest-Kids-World-They-That/dp/145165443X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1444614555&sr=1-1&keywords=smartest+kids+in+the+world  Bedtime Sticker Chart: http://www.amazon.com/Night-Sleep-Tight-Reward-Chart/dp/B0077M92T4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442181532&sr=8-1&keywords=bedtime+sticker+chart Okay to Wake!
