No tricks or gimmicks, no straining to keep things tied to the news cycle to stay “relevant”, no A-B tested jokes, just grace-filled biblical exposition. Hiawatha’s style is to just pick a book of the Bible and preach through it over the course of 6 months or a year, which is great for a few reasons (seeing necessary context, forcing us to deal with awkward parts that would otherwise get skipped, etc.). What I like most about Hiawatha sermons though is how the overwhelming focus, even for Old Testament books like the current 1 Samuel series, is how the Bible is about what God has already done at Calvary rather than what we need to do this week. It’s especially good for people like myself who will always consider themselves “recovering moralists”, who are always prone to sliding back into a lifestyle of self justification. You can count on Hiawatha’s take on any passage to help you counter that.
