    Ep. 63: Chris Schanck [Rebroadcast]

We are rebroadcasting some of our favorite episodes while we recharge our batteries with a summer break. Enjoy and we'll be back with fresh episodes soon!
Artist and designer, Chris Schanck, moved upwards of 22 times in his youth. He credits Uncle Rocco with firing up his creative engine at an early age, and an arts magnet school in adolescence with “saving his life.” That’s not an overstatement. Fast forward a few years and he’s developed a distinct visual language, has a solo show at a prestigious gallery under his belt, and critically successful body of work. Now, he’s built a life and studio in Detroit, where he is attempting to put down some roots.

Ep. 113: Graphic Designer Stefan Sagmeister [Rebroadcast]

We are rebroadcasting some of our favorite episodes while we recharge our batteries with a summer break. Enjoy and we'll be back with fresh episodes soon!
Graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister did not care for engineering in high school. He found designing a poster that would communicate a vibe and draw crowds to an event to be way more compelling. After design school, the Austrian native decided that New York is the city that fits him best. With many awards and a big name in his field, he’s now focusing on art, exhibitions and taking a sabbatical every 7 years. He’s got a brain for planning and long-term data which allows for a very optimistic long view.

Ep. 91: Designer Amélie Lamont [Rebroadcast]

We are rebroadcasting some of our favorite episodes while we recharge our batteries with a summer break. Enjoy and we'll be back with fresh episodes soon!
Digital designer and writer Amélie Lamont is a native New Yorker and daughter of Jamaican immigrants. A self-proclaimed nerd, she grew up reading Encyclopedia Britannica and teaching herself to code. A life-long learner, she has pursued many different areas of study in school and hated them all, which is probably why her long-term vision for herself involves a PhD and starting a design school! As an outspoken advocate of PoC, she has initiated projects like People of Craft and The Guide to Allyship.

    Ep. 28: Norm Abram [Rebroadcast]

We are taking some time off for the summer, but we're sharing some classic episodes from the archives. Sit back, be inspired, and enjoy.
This Old House Master Carpenter Norm Abram charms Jaime and Amy with stories of a youth spent building pinewood derby cars and learning the trade from his father, who lives on in the walls of the house they built together as adults. He got his start in TV by accident, but thanks to an unfailing dedication to patience and safety, that’s about the only major accident he can speak of. These days, he’s on a mission to bring today’s youth into tomorrow’s trade labor force. Plus, he reveals the secrets of his famous wardrobe.

Ep. 174: Colony Founder Jean Lin on Balancing Bravery and Recklessness

Ep. 174: Colony Founder Jean Lin on Balancing Bravery and Recklessness

Design entrepreneur and founder of Colony, the designer’s co-op, Jean Lin, grew up in suburban Massachusetts as one of a handful of non-white kids. With two brothers, she was a card-carrying tomboy until her teenage years when she leaned into fashion as a way to express herself. Influenced by her mother’s work as an educator for the incarcerated, she initially followed a career path into social services before reconciling with her undeniable yearning to study fashion design. After getting fired a few times, launching a few businesses, and gaining a smorgasbord of experience in a handful of roles, she bet her life savings on a dream and founded Colony, a community of designers that reimagines the design gallery business model as a supportive ecosystem, while celebrating American design to an international audience.

Clever Confidential is a Winner

The Clever podcast remains the best design podcast around, and their spinoff "Clever Confidential" is a winner. Their deep dives are edgy and informative, and the addition of Andrew Wagner is pure genius!

Less gushing

Trying to like this design centered podcast, but I can’t with the host’s constant unnecessary and obviously unauthentic giggling after every other sentence...as another review said “gushing”

Inspiring & thought provoking

Every episode is full of thoughtful conversations about not only the creations of designers but challenging ideas about how we interact with our world and the role of design. The conversations are genuine and flowing. Love it.
