I'm sorry, I hate to disparage a player, but my principles force me to speak out after hearing praise for him. There is no way Riley Allenspach is going to be good for the Bearcats. I watched him, live and in person, get outclassed by Luke Hunger in every metric possible against GW. Luke scored 31 that game. Luke Hunger!!!! He looked like one of the sorriest players I’ve seen, and it permanently altered my perception of his competitiveness and athleticism. It was that bad. Have you ever seen such a tall man stair at his feet as he trots down the court, shaking his head after repeatedly getting beat 1-on-1? By Luke Hunger? That man will not compete in the Big 12, and will bring down Cincinnati if he gets meaningful minutes. In fact if he does get meaningful minutes, Jim Calhoun’s pedigree will be tarnished in my eyes. And before they blow out American tonight, I’ll say this game will not prove me wrong if Riley plays well. American is a good litmus test only for a team with NIT dreams. Other than that great pod and keep it up!

Jim of the past three seasons of Scheyer-coached Duke which do you think featured his best coaching? Obviously 2004-2005 they went the farthest with NPOY Flagg but blew it in semi-finals vs Houston. Last year they did not even get to Final 4 with NPOY on roster again due to last second collapse. So in 2003-2004 they went just as far as last season (Elite 8) without any NPOY candidate and was what you called a “soulless team” that was “no fun”. Could that have been the best coaching by Scheyer—at least relative to expectations? And if Mizzou has Mark Mitchell will they’ve soulless since he was on that Duke team?

I have been curious about this for quite some time listening to the pod. With Greg Gards continued “unexpected” regular season success followed by first weekend blunder’s Wisconsin fans like myself are ready for more. If Gard was out would Wisconsin have a shot with any other Wisconsin born coaches like Oats or Otzelberger?
