  1. Like Him We Rise | All Have Sinned

Like Him We Rise | All Have Sinned

Do you ever feel like you are doing okay compared to everyone else? Do you quietly wonder how you really measure up before a holy God? What do you do with the ache that something is off inside, even when life looks fine on the surface?    In Romans 3 we hear the true note sound: all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. When God’s holiness fills the room, comparison collapses and we see our need clearly. Yet this is not the end of the story. Jesus steps into our rupture and does for us what we could never do for ourselves. The gospel is good news for people who cannot fix their own hearts. In Christ, God gives a righteousness we could not produce, a foundation that holds when everything else gives way.    If you have tried harder, cleaned up the outside, or leaned on religion and still felt out of tune, this message is for you. Sin is deeper than behavior and grace is stronger than shame. Through the cross, God remains just and becomes the one who justifies all who trust in Jesus. You are invited to lay down striving, open your hands in faith, and receive the gift of being declared righteous and fully accepted before God.    Scripture: Romans 3:23 to 24, 26  “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23  “He did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:26    Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. firstprescos.org/belong

  2. Like Him We Rise | The Human Condition

Like Him We Rise | The Human Condition

Have you ever wondered what is really wrong with the world? Why you keep repeating patterns you wish you could break? Why even your best intentions still seem mixed and fragile? The gospel of Jesus Christ meets us right there, telling the truth about our sin and offering a hope strong enough to carry us.    Romans 3 speaks plainly about the human condition. We are all under the power of sin. Every one of us falls short. Yet this is where the good news shines. Jesus Christ is the one righteous One who stood in our place and gave His life for ours. The gospel is a foundation that holds when self improvement collapses and guilt grows loud. You are not alone in your struggle, and you are not asked to save yourself. God has sent a Savior.    When you name sin honestly, you begin to see clearly. There is something broken in us and in this world, and we cannot fix it by sheer effort. Still, we are invited to live with hope in the middle of what is unfinished. As we walk toward Easter, we remember that before resurrection comes the cross. The line between good and evil runs through every human heart, yet Jesus crossed that line for you. In Him there is mercy, forgiveness, and new life for real people in real need.    Scripture: Romans 3:19 to 20  “Every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.” Romans 3:19  “Through the law we become conscious of our sin.” Romans 3:20    Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. firstprescos.org/belong

  3. No Shame: Standing On Gospel Truth | Tune My Heart

No Shame: Standing On Gospel Truth | Tune My Heart

Have you ever felt your heart drifting out of tune? Do you carry faith on the outside while wondering what is really happening inside? Do you long for a deeper love that holds steady when emotions fade? In this message, we are invited to bring our hearts honestly before Jesus, the One who knows us fully and loves us completely. The gospel tells us that Jesus gave his life so our hearts could be restored, forgiven, and anchored on something solid that does not shake.    Drawing from Romans, this sermon speaks to the longing beneath our religious habits and outward identity. God is not after appearances or symbols alone. He is after your heart. Through Jesus, grace reaches beneath behavior and background and meets us at the center of who we are. This is good news for anyone who feels prone to wander, weary, or unsure where they truly belong.    Like a song that needs tuning, our hearts are shaped by what we love most. God invites you to trust your heart into his hands, to be bound to grace, and to fall deeply in love with Jesus. When your heart is aligned with him, life begins to find its true direction and lasting hope.    Scripture: Romans 2:28 to 29  “A person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit.” Romans 2:29  “My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes delight in my ways.” Proverbs 23:26    Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. firstprescos.org/belong

  4. No Shame : Standing on Gospel Truth | Broken Witness

No Shame : Standing on Gospel Truth | Broken Witness

Do you ever feel the gap between what you believe and how you live? Have you wondered why faith can feel fragile when life puts pressure on you? Do you long for a faith that feels honest and whole rather than performative? In Romans chapter two, we are reminded that knowing what is right is not the same as living it, and that gap can become a broken witness to the world around us. The good news is that Jesus meets us exactly there. The gospel tells us that our hope is not built on our moral record, our knowledge, or our religious background, but on the finished work of Christ. This good news steadies our souls and gives us something solid to build on when our own righteousness falls short. This passage invites you to lay down self reliance and come honestly before God. The law shows us the truth about our need, and Jesus shows us the mercy that answers it. When we stop pretending and turn toward Christ, our lives begin to reflect grace instead of hypocrisy, healing instead of shame, and hope instead of fear. The ground is level at the foot of the cross, and Jesus offers forgiveness and new life to all who trust him. Scripture: Romans 2:12 to 24  “For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.” Romans 2:13  “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” Romans 2:24 Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. firstprescos.org/belong

  5. No Shame: Standing On Gospel Truth | Diagnosis of the Heart

No Shame: Standing On Gospel Truth | Diagnosis of the Heart

Do you ever catch yourself judging others more quickly than you want to admit? Have you felt the quiet relief of seeing someone else get called out while you stay unnoticed? Do you wonder what God sees when He looks past our comparisons and into our hearts? In Romans 2, Paul turns the mirror toward us and invites us to encounter Jesus in a deeper and more honest way. The good news of the gospel is that God meets us not with favoritism or denial, but with truth wrapped in mercy. Jesus offers a foundation that holds even when our self righteousness begins to crack. This message speaks to those who know the Bible well and those who assume they are doing just fine. God’s kindness is not meant to excuse us, but to lead us toward repentance and freedom. When we stop throwing stones and start listening, we discover that God’s judgment is never separated from His love. In Christ, the hard word becomes a healing word, calling us away from pride and toward humility, grace, and new life. If you have ever struggled with spiritual pride, hypocrisy, or the fear of being exposed, this passage offers hope. Jesus does not leave us stuck in condemnation. He invites us to come into the light, receive forgiveness, and be formed into people who reflect His grace to others. This is the middle word of the gospel that leads us toward the final word of peace and restoration in Christ. Scripture: Romans 2:1 to 11  “God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance.” Romans 2:4  “For God does not show favoritism.” Romans 2:11 Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. firstprescos.org/belong

  6. NO SHAME: STANDING ON GOSPEL TRUTH | UPSIDE DOWN ; INSIDE OUT

NO SHAME: STANDING ON GOSPEL TRUTH | UPSIDE DOWN ; INSIDE OUT

Have you ever felt pulled in two directions inside your own heart? Do you wonder why life can feel upside down even when you are trying your best? Have you sensed both a longing for God and a resistance to letting Him be at the center? In Romans 1, we hear the good news that Jesus meets us right in that tension and offers a foundation that holds when everything else feels unstable. This message names a truth we all share. Every one of us is bent inward, tempted to make ourselves the center instead of God. Yet the gospel announces that Jesus has not turned away from us. He lived a perfect life, carried our shame to the cross, and opened the way for our hearts to be restored. In Him, grace steadies our souls and gives us something solid to build on when our thinking feels confused and our loves feel disordered. You are invited to bring your whole story to Jesus, including the places that feel broken or hidden. As we turn our hearts toward Him in worship and gratitude, He reshapes us with mercy and truth. There is freedom in letting God be God and hope in knowing there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Scripture: Romans 1:21 to 25  “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him.” Romans 1:21  “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator.” Romans 1:25 Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. firstprescos.org/belong

  7. NO SHAME: STANDING ON GOSPEL TRUTH | THE CASE FOR SALVATION

    JAN 20

NO SHAME: STANDING ON GOSPEL TRUTH | THE CASE FOR SALVATION

Have you ever felt pressure to prove you can handle life on your own? Do you wonder why needing help can feel like weakness? Are you carrying shame about faith in a world that prizes self reliance? Paul speaks into that tension with hope that still holds today. Jesus meets us in our need, not our strength, and the gospel tells the good news that God has come near to save, heal, and restore what we cannot fix ourselves. In Romans, we hear that the gospel is the power of God for salvation. This good news is not about earning your way to God but about trusting what Jesus has already done through his life, death, and resurrection. The message of Jesus becomes a foundation that holds when our confidence fails and our illusions fall apart. In a culture that celebrates doing life your own way, the gospel offers something solid to build on and a freedom that comes through faith. This passage invites you to lay down shame and receive grace. It reminds you that salvation is not just about eternity but about God mending what is broken right now. As you listen, you are invited to trust Jesus with your whole life and to share this hope with others, knowing that the gospel itself carries the power to change hearts. Scripture: Romans 1:16 to 17  “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16  “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last.” Romans 1:17 Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. firstprescos.org/belong
