Play to Potential Podcast

This Podcast is created and curated by Deepak Jayaraman (an Executive Coach and a Leadership Advisor). He lives in Mumbai and works with successful Senior Executives by helping them play to their unique potential but with a sharp focus on transitions (business or career). Just like businesses need to think about "where to play" and "how to win", leaders need to be coherent about "where to go" and "how to grow" in their journeys. Deepak works with them during pivotal moments to help them with these two questions. To know more click here. The conversations in this podcast cover topics around Leadership, Transitions and Careers. For accessing nuggets across speakers by a specific theme of interest, you might want to visit the Curated Playlists section. 110.00 Viral Doshi on making better career decisions

GUEST:Viral Doshi is one of India's pioneers in career and college counselling. Over the last two decades, he has mentored more than 30,000 students, helping them navigate educational choices, international admissions and long-term career decisions. He is widely regarded for his highly personalised approach and has consciously built a practice centred on excellence rather than scale. In this conversation, we explore Viral's remarkable journey from running a Super Alloys manufacturing business to building one of India's most respected career counselling practices. He reflects on how passion became his profession and why he chose to remain a specialist instead of building a large organisation. We discuss how students and parents make career decisions, the changing role of undergraduate and postgraduate education, and why the first degree is increasingly becoming a platform for exploration while the second degree develops specialised skills. The conversation also examines the impact of AI on careers, common mistakes students make while choosing disciplines like Computer Science, and why learning AI should complement a strong foundational discipline rather than replace one. Along the way, Viral shares insights on staying relevant for over twenty years, building trust through deeply human relationships, and why handwritten notes and personal attention continue to matter in an increasingly digital world. This episode is for students, parents, educators and professionals who are thinking deeply about careers, lifelong learning and making better long-term decisions. 2. EP 10 Connecting the Dots: Journaling - Building a deeper relationship with yourself

    May 12

EP 10 Connecting the Dots: Journaling - Building a deeper relationship with yourself

This episode of Connecting the Dots is on Journaling. Over the years, I’ve noticed an interesting contrast. Many accomplished leaders credit journaling as a practice that helped them think clearly, improve judgment, process complexity and stay grounded. At the same time, many people want to journal but don’t know where to begin or how to make the practice meaningful. This episode is for the latter. Through insights from guests like Ethan Kross, Tasha Eurich, Daniel Pink, Rich Fernandez, Bill Burnett, Rajiv Vij, Andrew Likierman and Vinay Sitapati, we explore both the Why and the How of journaling. We look at how journaling can help reduce mental chatter, build self-awareness, develop emotional restraint, improve judgment, process complexity and bring more intentionality into our lives. We also discuss practical approaches to journaling, including gratitude journaling, tracking energy and engagement, using “what” questions instead of “why” questions and building non-judgmental self-awareness. If you’ve ever wanted to start journaling but felt overwhelmed, inconsistent or unsure where to begin, this episode will hopefully give you a simple and thoughtful way to approach the practice. Crafting a Full Life – A Year Long Companion to Play to Your Potential is our guided journaling companion designed to help you reflect more deeply on different facets of your life including work, relationships, health, aspirations, values and self-awareness. Curated with reflective prompts, podcast excerpts and exercises, it is intended to help you slow down, think clearly and become more intentional about the life you want to build. If you’re looking to begin or deepen your journaling practice, do check it out.

109.00 Hitendra Wadhwa on Atomic Leadership

GUEST: Hitendra Wadhwa is a professor at Columbia Business School, founder of the Mentora Institute, and author of Inner Mastery, Outer Impact. His work explores how leaders create meaningful change by first working on their inner world. In this conversation, we explore a different way to think about leadership. Instead of focusing on traits or competencies, Hitendra introduces the idea of activating states and how leadership is often shaped in small, high-stakes human moments. We discuss why leadership is less about grand strategies and more about what happens in micro interactions such as a feedback conversation, a moment of conflict or a shift in perspective. Hitendra shares his research on “breakthrough moments” and the patterns behind them, drawing from examples like Gorbachev’s reframing with Thatcher and Mandela’s negotiation with a military general. We also dive into his framework of five core energies including Love, Purpose, Wisdom, Self-realization and Growth, and how these translate into simple actions that can be applied in real time. The conversation challenges the idea of fixed personality and suggests that we are a set of capacities we can intentionally activate. Along the way, we touch upon transitions, early influences, and the intersection of spirituality and leadership, and why meaningful change often begins within. This episode is for leaders, professionals and anyone trying to grow without oversimplifying a complex world. Published in April 2026. ABOUT THE PODCAST: The podcast has been functional since 2016. 108.00 Jennifer Garvey Berger on building our complexity fitness

GUEST:Jennifer Garvey Berger is a leadership thinker, author, and co-founder of Cultivating Leadership. Her work focuses on adult development and how leaders can grow their inner capacity to meet an increasingly complex world. She is the author of Changing on the Job and Unlocking Leadership Mindtraps. In this conversation, we explore why many capable leaders still feel overwhelmed, reactive, or stuck despite their experience. Jennifer introduces the idea of complexity fitness and explains how leadership today is less about having answers and more about expanding how we make sense of situations. We discuss the different stages of adult development, what it means to move from a socialized mind to a self-authoring and self-transforming mind, and why true growth often requires examining the beliefs and assumptions we are subject to without realizing it. Jennifer also talks about listening to be unsettled, securing the bridge on both ends when supporting change in others, and why playfulness is not a distraction but a signal of deeper maturity. We also touch upon leadership in an AI-shaped world, parenting as a leadership practice, and why small, well-timed nudges often matter more than grand plans. This episode is for leaders, parents, coaches, and anyone trying to grow without simplifying a world that refuses to be simple. 107.00 Roopa Kudva on Leadership Beyond the Playbook

GUEST:Roopa Kudva is the former Managing Director of CRISIL and the former Managing Partner at Omidyar Network India. Over the last four decades, she has worked across financial services, impact investing and company boards, and now brings those lessons together in her book Leadership Beyond the Playbook. In this conversation, we explore what she has learned from leading at scale, investing in early-stage founders and observing leaders across sectors and generations. Roopa talks about what it really takes to stay grounded as you rise, how to think about purpose without forcing it, and why leadership is rarely a clean, framework-driven journey. We also go into the nuance of decision making when information is imperfect, how to balance autonomy with accountability, and what it takes to work effectively with teams that span Boomers to Gen Z. Roopa shares stories from her years at CRISIL, her time at Omidyar Network and the lived experiences that shaped her view of leadership. It’s a thoughtful reminder that growth as a leader often comes from widening the lens, staying curious and building your own way of working rather than following someone else’s template. He has worked across toys, technology and academia, and now leads the Life Design Lab at Stanford where he helps people rethink how they build their careers and lives. In this conversation, we walk through his journey from the early days of design to his work with students and professionals who are trying to find clarity in a world that keeps shifting. Bill talks about the power of curiosity and play, the value of reframing problems before rushing to solutions, and why small prototypes often reveal more truth than long plans. He also explains gravity problems and anchor problems, how energy and engagement shape our daily experience, and why coherence is a reliable signal that your choices match who you are. We touch on how AI is reshaping work and why the most durable skills involve empathy, creativity and the ability to learn fast. The discussion is a helpful reminder that there is no single perfect path. About
