I love podcasts and I am always in search of good news related ones, so when I realized the New York Times was podcasting lots of news and other interests I was pretty excited. "the New York Times. News. Awesome!" But actually "awesome" is about the last word that should be used to discribe these podcasts. They feel compleatly impersonal and the narration is flat. I don't think The Times has realized yet that podcasting, like radio, requires some skill. Not just anyone can broadcast well. I may be wrong, but from what I read in the podcast descriptions (and what I hear of the podcasts) the Times has chosen simply to make those who write acticles read them for podcasting-rather than get someone specificly to read podcasts. If so, shame on the Times for downright laziness. If you're looking for good podcasts of news, or pretty-much anything else, I recommend NRP, PRI, and, my personal favorite, the lighthearted and informative Slate Magazine Podcasts.
