Balancing your hormones with nutrition, and making healthy eating simple - Lauren Papanos

Balancing your hormones with nutrition, and making healthy eating simple - Lauren Papanos

Nutrition is so simple it's complicated.

Lauren Papanos is a functional medicine certified, RD who believes that the overwhelming majority of hormone replacement therapy could be eliminated through diet and supplementation.

She fell into the world of nutrition as a result of losing her cycle when competing in cheer on scholarship, where she had to maintain a low body weight, and still perform.

Injuries started to mount, she lost her cycle, and she had to figure out how to turn things around to live a healthy life.

Now she helps people from around the world simplify their eating and supplementation to perform at their best.

How to use brain data to drive human performance, Jen Dischler

How to use brain data to drive human performance, Jen Dischler

Would you wear a set of headphones for 10 minutes a day if you knew it could improve your sleep, focus, and recovery?

There is some exciting data that suggests this is not only possible, but it might already be happening.

Jen Dischler is a self proclaimed data nerd, we met at the Forever Strong event in January this year, and I was intrigued by the work she does for the startup "Vital Neuro".

CrossFit is more dangerous than they want you to believe, and it's still worth doing - Amy West

CrossFit is more dangerous than they want you to believe, and it's still worth doing - Amy West

Life is dangerous if we decide to live it to it's fullest, and I'm not here to sit on the sideline.

On today's episode of The Active Life Podcast my friend, Dr. Amy West is back, and we are talking about the injury risks associated with CrossFit, how overblown they are, and how under reported. We also talk about a bunch of other things related to musculoskeletal health, and what society needs to change if we're going to become vibrant again.

I believe that if CrossFit went back to its roots and wore the badge of "forging elite fitness", acknowledging stuff happens when you're trying to be elite, they would enjoy massive success, again.

I believe CrossFit is the most disruptive, and efficacious methodological breakthrough in fitness since Jack Lalanne hit the screens in the 1950s, and like anything else, it's flawed.

It's more dangerous to be sedentary than to do CrossFit, and to suggest doing CrossFit is dangerous is also incorrect.

    Enjoy the show.

What we can learn about ourselves and our friends on the road to success, Alyssa Olenick

As a PhD in exercise science, an ultra marathoner, a hybrid athlete, a successful entrepreneur, and a regular presence on stages and podcasts, it's hard to argue anything except that Alyssa Olenick is a winner.

Not everyone wanted it to be that way.

On today's episode you're going to learn about the feathers that were ruffled necessarily, the obstacles that were overcome, the advantages that were leaned into, and the lessons still being learned by Alyssa as she continues making strides to excel in this new, entrepreneurial chapter of her life.

Heal your gut, relax your nervous system, and change your life - Rachel Scheer

Heal your gut, relax your nervous system, and change your life - Rachel Scheer

If you've heard Rachel Scheer on another podcast I promise you this, you have not heard her talk about what we discuss on today's episode, and you're going to want to tune in.

Rachel found herself at the crossroads of having her intestines removed and taking control of her life, finding her own way to a cure for herself. She chose the latter and now she's bringing her message to the masses.

We talk as much about the mind body connection, and who Rachel is at her core as we do about the science of health.

Rachel is a functional nutritionist, her new book "root cause" is on Amazon now, for coaches who want to help people like Rachel does.

Hard questions about the merits of diversity efforts in the workplace, Ebenezer Samuel, Fitness Directos, Men's Health Magazine

Hard questions about the merits of diversity efforts in the workplace, Ebenezer Samuel, Fitness Directos, Men's Health Magazine

I recently attended an event called "Strength in Diversity" that my friend, Ebenezer Samuel hosted on behalf of Men's Health Magazine.

I was skeptical at first because I rarely see diversity efforts that I believe make companies or services better. Typically what I see is virtue signaling, and getting minority faces into content to try an attract business from more people who look like them.

When it comes to social causes I believe the most virtuous social cause is doing world class work. It doesn't matter what the people who do that work look like, as long as the effort is always on doing the best work.

What was refreshing about the Strength in Diversity initiative is that there are no handouts. It's a mentorship approach to lifting people who come from marginalized communities. And that I can get behind.

Today I ask Ebenezer the hard questions in regards to the relevance, merit, and future of diversity efforts in the work place.
