New From Texas Monthly: America’s Girls

The original Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders squad burst onto the field back in 1972—the same year Title IX passed, the same year Deep Throat came out, and a year before Roe v. Wade. Sarah Hepola digs into the untold stories behind the global pop culture phenomenon, from the stripper who allegedly inspired the squad’s creation, to a scandalous Playboy cover shoot that was partly a battle over fair wages, to the ongoing debate about sexuality and women’s bodies in a post-#MeToo world. The result is a vibrant mix of history, cultural criticism, and storytelling, featuring interviews with New Yorker writer Jia Tolentino, award-winning novelist Ben Fountain, Oscar-nominated director Dana Adam Shapiro, local television sports legend Dale Hansen, folk-writing hero Joe Nick Patoski, and a whole bunch of cheerleaders whose names you don’t know yet—but should.

I’m amused by all the posts about the liberal this & the Democrat that…. If you want conservative mosey over to Alex Jones and InfoWars. If you want intelligent content - you can count on TM! Or, remain obtuse.

There is nothing Texas about this podcast. It’s typical leftist screed. The great nation of Texas is one of the last bastions of true freedom and liberty in the world, and I shudder listening to the hosts of this podcast and their guests attempting to undermine it from the inside. We don’t need people fleeing from Democrat run states setting up shops and turning Texas into a lefty hellscape, and we don’t need lefties pretending that they hold opinions consistent with most Texans.

As a transplanted Texan of 75 years, I was delighted to discover this podcast. It was hilarious to read the reviews by my fellow Texans who are socially and educationally locked in Texas of the 1950s. It wasn’t all that great then, guys, and it sure ain’t gonna stay like you wish it...oh, btw, the South won’t rise again, either. Texas is outgrowing y’all.
So disappointing!

I believe in freedom of speech, but as a staunch Conservative, this podcast sickened my stomach. It is super left wing as I have deleted the first few podcasts after less than a minute of play each. I have never understood the logic of the left wing Democrat Party and gave up trying to a long time ago. The last straw was the propaganda message from the interview with Paul Bogola (sp?) on why the Dems are going to carry Texas in this next election. Sickening & untrue. If Dems ever win, you can count on losing your personal freedoms in a very short period of time. You think the mass exodus from California is bad!!!?
