All Saints Day Preaching Slam: Celebrating 10 Years of Catholic Women Preach

On November 1, 2026, ten years after Catholic Women Preach first launched on All Saints Day, FutureChurch hosted a virtual All Saints Day Preaching Slam to celebrate the anniversary. In this special episode, four beloved CWP preachers each lift up a holy woman for our times: a Servant of God, an apostle-like early Christian, a Doctor of the Church, and a grandmother with no statues and no feast day. Chapters0:11 Kayla August, on Servant of God Thea Bowman10:14 Ann Garrido, on Saint Thekla20:26 Cecilia González-Andrieu, on Abuela Dolores & Santa Teresa de Jesús29:38 Kerry Alys Robinson, on Saint Catherine of Siena Kayla August reflects on Servant of God Sister Thea Bowman, the difference between holiness and perfection, and the unique mission God gives each of us: “She wasn’t perfect, but she was undeniably holy: the kind of holy we’re all called to be.” Kayla is Director of Mission Formation at Loyola Marymount University and a doctoral candidate at Boston College’s Clough School of Theology and Ministry. Ann Garrido tells the story of Saint Thekla and lifts up three qualities for our lives today: gumption, interior freedom, and continued goodwill toward others. “‘She was as one unbound.’ Yes, that refers to the rope that’s sliding off of her wrists. But does it not refer to so much more than that?” Ann is an award-winning author and a longtime professor of preaching at Aquinas Institute of Theology. Cecilia González-Andrieu reflects on her Abuela Dolores and Santa Teresa de Jesús, and on the everyday saints who teach us to be Christ’s hands, feet, and voice in the world: “I knew one saint very intimately. She has no statues, no feast day. She was my abuela.” Cecilia is Professor of Theology and Human Rights at Loyola Marymount University. Kerry Alys Robinson reflects on Saint Catherine of Siena and the call that comes to each of us: “Anyone can be called. Neither gender nor culture nor humble stature may impede that call.” Kerry is President and CEO of Catholic Charities USA and was one of Catholic Women Preach’s first preachers.
