A Few Good Physios podcast is a journey through the physical therapy/strength & conditioning industry, told by the view points of Dr. Eric Munõz and Dr. Leonidas Scantalides. Both are seasoned NYC clinicians with their own practices (Integrated PT² and On Point Sports Care) specializing in orthopedic outpatient care and strength/conditioning.  Episodes range from clinical commentary on various injuries to featured guests, discussing industry trends, new evidence, and popular orthopaedic treatments.  Although Dr. Munõz and Dr. Scantalides love all sporting events, they have particular interest in combat sports, as they themselves are competitive Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners in NYC.     EPI 31: Jason Kapnick and Joe Boffi

    Recorded 3/12/2019 Listen in to this incredible episode as we sat down the co-founders of Catalyst Sport NYC, discussing the strength and conditioning industry, jiu-jitsu, the business of owning a gym in NYC, and much more! Jason Kapnick is a personal trainer, entrepreneur and one of the Co-Founders of Catalyst S.P.O.R.T. His training philosophy centers around building a strong foundation of movement quality, and then layering strength and conditioning on top of that. He believes in empowering his clients to take responsibility for their results through mindful practice, education, and a collaborative approach. Prior to becoming a fitness professional, Jason worked in investment management, where he specialized in leveraged credit, analyzing companies ranging from start-ups seeking growth capital, to investment grade credit, as well as distressed credit and special situations.  Jason is also a lifelong athlete. He was an All-State midfielder in lacrosse and went on to play Division 1. Following that, he was a successful strength athlete in Powerlifting, where he made multiple "Elite" totals, including best lifts of 545lbs squat, 355lbs bench press, and 660lbs deadlift in the 198lbs weight class. Jason was the 17th person to ever complete the prestigious kettlebell challenge known as “The Beast Tamer Challenge”—which requires one to overhead press, one-legged squat, and perform a pull-up with the 48kg (106lb) kettlebell. Currently, Jason practices brazilian jiu-jitsu at the Renzo Gracie Academy, where he is a purple belt under the legendary John Danaher.  His certifications and continuing education have included the StrongFirst Kettlebell Instructor Level 2, Functional Movement Screen Level 2, Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist, Russian Kettlebell (RKC) Level 2, and others.  Jason lives in Morris Plains New Jersey with his wife Veronica and their mutt dog, Tormund Giantsbane. Joe Boffi is an accomplished Muay Thai Kickboxer with a record of 4-3-1 and currently has a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Master Renzo Gracie and Professor John Danaher.. One of the co-founders of Catalyst, Joe has extensive experience coaching clients and athletes from a wide variety of backgrounds. He is certified as an SFG2 Kettlebell Instructor, Functional Movement Screen Specialist, RKC kettlebell Instructor, and SFB bodyweight training instructor.     EPI 30: Luke Bongiorno

    Recorded March 5th, 2019 One of New York City's most prominent physical therapists, Luke practices a 'hands-on' approach combining his advanced manual skills, trigger point therapy and myofascial release with neuromuscular/exercise re-education. Luke has a strong belief that education is fundamental in optimizing patient recovery and performance. He teaches advanced skills courses in Manual Therapy as well pain science education in the US as well as internationally. As an avid athlete, Luke is at the cutting-edge of helping fellow athletes return to their sport after injury. He has extensive experience in the management of acute and chronic sports injuries and has completed marathons and been part of the medical team for marathons and triathlons around the country. Luke is also affiliated with professional football and triathlon teams. He treats professional and Olympic athletes as well as touring performing arts/dance company members. He currently serves as a consultant with the NBA Players Association as well as European soccer professional teams. Since graduating with honors from the University of Melbourne, Luke has attained the Mastery Certification in Manual Therapy. Luke also has training in McKenzie Method mechanical diagnosis and therapy, McConnell knee and shoulder treatment and advanced taping techniques. Luke is the co-founder of NY Sports Medicine which was later acquired by Orthology. He is currently involved in clinical research focused on injury management and is developing guidelines for injury prevention in sports medicine and in the workplace.
