    What stokvel are you apart of and how did it go?

    Stokvels are a big part of how South Africans save, invest and make sure there’s money for December groceries, school fees or that annual getaway. But when you’re putting your hard-earned money into a group with family, friends, neighbours or colleagues, you’re also putting a lot of trust in people. So, what stokvel are you part of, and how does yours work? Is it a grocery stokvel, a savings club, an investment group or one where everyone contributes towards a big December payout?     Would you travel out of South Africa for cheaper healthcare somewhere else?

    There’s growing chatter that some travellers (especially Americans) are booking cruises partly because the onboard medical centres or ports of call offer cheaper doctor visits, dental work or basic procedures than they can get at home. Medical travel (also called medical tourism) is when people travel to another country specifically for cheaper or faster treatment. Some are even using cruise holidays for basic check-ups or dental work in the ports. In the United States a routine dental check-up can cost you three or four times what it costs in South Africa. A simple tooth filling that sets an American back thousands of rands can be done for a fraction of that price in India or Thailand.
