i adore this show. i’m going through a really rough patch in my life and it has been a source of support and laughter that is badly needed.
there is a hint of favoritism at times, and there are some subjects that could have been handled more carefully, such as tyra not wearing her natural hair as much.
black women wearing their natural hair has unfortunately been stigmatized for centuries, and that stigma is rooted in racism and discrimination, not just beauty standards alone. because of that history, it can be an especially sensitive subject for many of us.
the hosts are all so fun and unique in their own way, but i find that hannah frequently interrupts lex and jw, which is frustrating. she also has a tendency to correct the grammar of contestants, which comes off as a little entitled and unfair. people are not perfect and do not always articulate themselves perfectly in conversation.
regarding cycle 13, episode 12, when lauren brought up that being dyslexic makes frustration worse, hannah responded with “well, that’s universal,” which felt dismissive of the fact that her disability does genuinely make certain situations more difficult for her.
in no way do i think any of these instances were out of malice. i share this because i care about the show, and we grow and learn as the years go by.
none of this stops me from loving the podcast. it is genuinely amazing, and it is so rare to find this type of chemistry. you can feel the genuine love they have for one another.
while i know the podcast has officially ended (noooo), my greatest wish is that the trio comes together to create something new, not just for me, but for all fellow fans to enjoy.
