Why Does October Feel Different? | Seasonal Psychology, Memory & the Subconscious Mind

Why does October feel different? Why can the first cool morning, the smell of leaves, changing light, or an old sweatshirt create a feeling before you've consciously thought about it?   In Episode 162 of Elevate Your Mind, Master Hypnotist and Subconscious Expert Rebecca Wiener McGregor explores the fascinating relationship between seasons, memory, anticipation, sensory association, and the subconscious mind. We don't experience a season only through weather. We experience it through years of accumulated associations. A smell can bring back childhood. A change in light can create a mood. A certain time of year can stir feelings we don't immediately understand. And sometimes what we're feeling in October isn't about this October at all.   In this episode, Rebecca explores: • Why seasons become subconscious cues • How smell, light, temperature, and sound trigger associations • Why certain times of year can stir unexpected emotions • The difference between recognizing an old pattern and predicting it will happen again • How anticipation allows us to emotionally experience the future • Why the holidays can affect us before they've even arrived • How seasonal rituals become meaningful associations • Why autumn can make us especially aware of change and time • How we can create new experiences inside familiar seasons   Rebecca also asks a deceptively simple question: Who were you the last time you stood here? The season may be familiar. But you're meeting it as someone new. And this October is still yours to experience.   ASKING FOR A FRIEND Have something you've always wondered about your mind? Relationships, habits, money, creativity, memory, confidence, subconscious patterns, hypnosis—or one of those strange things human beings do that you've never quite understood? Why Does Anxiety Come Out of Nowhere? Asking for a Friend: When Everything Is Fine, but Your Body Feels Otherwise

You're having a perfectly normal day. Maybe even a wonderful day. Then suddenly your heart starts racing, your chest feels tight, and you feel an overwhelming sense that something is wrong. Why does anxiety seem to come out of nowhere, even when everything is fine? In this episode of Elevate Your Mind, Master Hypnotist and Subconscious Expert Rebecca Wiener McGregor answers an Asking for a Friend question about unexpected anxiety and panic attacks. We explore: • Why your conscious mind may not recognize everything contributing to anxiety. • How physical sensations can become frightening after a previous panic attack. • The fear-of-fear cycle and how it can intensify panic. • Why stress, sleep, physical changes, and learned associations can play a role. • How to begin responding to anxiety with greater understanding and confidence. A question to consider: What would change in your life if you trusted yourself to respond to anxiety instead of spending your days trying to make sure it never appeared?   Work with Rebecca Rebecca offers private hypnosis and subconscious work for people ready to explore the patterns influencing how they think, feel, and experience life.   Asking for a Friend Have a question about your mind, emotions, habits, relationships, or subconscious patterns? Why Do I Keep Doing This? | The Subconscious Logic Behind Self-Sabotage & Habits

Why do you keep doing something you consciously know you want to change? You understand the pattern. You know the consequences. You may even know exactly where the behavior came from. And yet... you procrastinate. You overwork. You overexplain. You say yes when you want to say no. You avoid the opportunity you say you want. You keep finding yourself in the same pattern and asking: "Why do I keep doing this?"   In this episode of Elevate Your Mind, Master Hypnotist and Subconscious Expert Rebecca Wiener McGregor explores the subconscious logic underneath behaviors that can look irrational from the outside.   What if the behavior isn't the beginning of the story? What if something underneath it has learned that this behavior accomplishes something important?   In this episode, Rebecca explores how subconscious associations, identity, familiarity, protection, belonging, safety, and learned patterns can influence behavior—even when our conscious mind wants something completely different. You'll also discover a powerful question to ask when you catch yourself repeating an old pattern: "What would have to be true for this behavior to make perfect sense?" Instead of simply fighting the behavior, we can become curious about what the subconscious mind may be trying to accomplish through it. And that can change the conversation completely.   PRIVATE VIP DAYS WITH REBECCA Rebecca currently has four private VIP Days available, with the option to work together in person in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, or virtually. A VIP Day gives you dedicated time to get underneath the pattern, fear, decision, or feeling you're ready to change using hypnosis and deep subconscious work. Your VIP experience also includes two private follow-up sessions and Voxer access. If there's something you're tired of understanding without actually changing, reach out to Rebecca and answer one question: What are you tired of feeling?   ASKING FOR A FRIEND Have something you've always wondered about your mind? The Stories Your Body Believes | Why You Still React Even When You Know Better

You understand the pattern. You know where it came from. You know you're safe now. So why is your body still reacting? Your stomach drops. Your chest tightens. Your heart speeds up. And your conscious mind is standing there thinking: What are we doing?   In Episode 158 of Elevate Your Mind, Master Hypnotist and Subconscious Expert Rebecca Wiener McGregor explores the fascinating gap between what we consciously know and what our automatic responses seem to believe.   Conscious understanding and automatic response don't always operate from the same information. Your mind can know something has changed while your body is still responding to associations, expectations, and patterns learned somewhere else. And sometimes the body reacts before the conscious story even arrives.   In this episode, Rebecca explores: • Why understanding a pattern doesn't always stop the reaction • How the subconscious learns through association and experience • Why the body can react before conscious thought • How old responses can continue after circumstances have changed • Why feeling uncomfortable while doing something new doesn't mean you're going backward • The difference between a sensation and an instruction • How new experiences give the subconscious new evidence • Why mental rehearsal and hypnosis can help create new associations • How to bring present-day information into an old automatic response • Why the subconscious remembers beautiful experiences too   One of the most important distinctions in this episode: A sensation is information. It isn't always an instruction. Feeling nervous doesn't automatically mean stop. Feeling unfamiliar doesn't automatically mean wrong. And feeling an old response while choosing something new doesn't mean you're back at the beginning. Sometimes your system is experiencing the old prediction while you're creating new evidence. Rebecca also explores a side of subconscious work that gets far less attention: Your body doesn't only learn fear, vigilance, disappointment, or uncertainty. It can learn belonging. Ease. Pleasure. Confidence. Love. The subconscious isn't frozen. We continue learning. We continue having new experiences. And over time, something that once felt completely unfamiliar can simply become... normal. The question Rebecca leaves you with: What does my body know about my life now that it didn't know when this story began?   ASKING FOR A FRIEND Have a reaction, habit, thought, or pattern you'd love a Master Hypnotist to unpack? Maybe there's something you consciously understand but still don't seem to feel. Maybe your body has a reaction that makes absolutely no sense to you. Maybe there's something about relationships, money, confidence, leadership, creativity, hypnosis, or simply being human that you've always wanted to ask. Send Rebecca your question. And yes...you can absolutely be Asking for a Friend.   Your question may become a future episode of Elevate Your Mind.   ✨ Connect with Rebecca Wiener McGregor 🌐 Website: https://rebeccawiener.com 💛 Coming Home: https://rebeccawiener.com/coming-home ✨ Miracle Mode: https://rebeccawiener.com/miracle-mode 📚 Books & Resources: https://rebeccawiener.com/books Rebecca Wiener McGregor is a Master Hypnotist, Subconscious Expert, Leadership Coach, TEDx Speaker, and creator of the Whole Life Happy™ Method. Why Your Mind Still Needs Paper | Journaling, Creativity & Analog Life with Papered Mind Co.

Why does writing something by hand feel different from typing it? Why can coloring quiet a busy mind? Why do we buy beautiful journals...and then refuse to write in them because they're too pretty? And in a world where almost everything can be done digitally, why are so many people rediscovering paper planners, stationery, coloring books, puzzles, handwriting, snail mail, and other analog activities?   In this episode of Elevate Your Mind, Rebecca Wiener McGregor sits down with Elle, founder of Papered Mind Co., to explore our enduring relationship with paper—and what our growing appetite for analog experiences may reveal about the way we want to live.   Elle launched Papered Mind Co. in 2025 and recently celebrated the company's 4,000th order. Clearly, people aren't finished with paper.   Rebecca and Elle explore: • Why people may be craving analog experiences again • What changes when we move from a screen to paper • The pleasure and ritual of beautiful stationery • Why we save our best notebooks instead of using them • Journaling without rules or pressure • Coloring, creativity, and adult play • Creating without needing to produce something "good" • Why handwriting and physical letters can feel so personal • What building Papered Mind Co. has taught Elle • The surprising success of a business built around slowing down • Simple ways to give an overstimulated mind somewhere else to go   We live in a world that keeps offering us faster ways to do almost everything. Maybe our continued love affair with paper isn't resistance to technology. Maybe there are simply parts of the human experience we don't actually want optimized.   ASKING FOR A FRIEND Have something you've always wondered about your mind? Why We Want Other People to Want What We Want

The Psychology of Approval & Self-Trust     Have you ever loved something right up until someone else didn't? You love the dress—until you see your friend's face. You're excited about an idea—until someone you love says, "Really?" You know exactly what you want—until someone else doesn't understand it. Nothing about the thing itself changed. So what did? In Episode 157 of Elevate Your Mind, Master Hypnotist and Subconscious Expert Rebecca Wiener McGregor explores why other people's reactions can have so much influence over our own experiences, preferences, decisions, and sense of certainty.   Human beings learn about the world partly through one another. From childhood, we watch faces, reactions, approval, disapproval, enthusiasm, and hesitation. But somewhere along the way, useful information from other people can become something else: permission. I n this episode, Rebecca explores: • Why someone else's reaction can make you question something you genuinely liked • How approval and belonging become connected in the subconscious mind • Why we sometimes want people to want what we want • The difference between being witnessed and being validated • Why disagreement can feel like distance in close relationships • How other people's fear can enter our decisions • What happens when likes, comments, reviews, and reactions become mirrors • How to receive outside perspectives without handing away your authority • Why self-trust doesn't mean refusing other people's opinions   There's also a subtle relationship question underneath the entire conversation: How often does "I want you to understand me" become "I need you to agree with me"? Being connected to another person doesn't require experiencing everything the same way.   And self-trust doesn't mean your first thought is always correct. It means you can remain connected to your own experience while receiving someone else's.   Rebecca leaves you with a deceptively simple question: WHAT DID I BELIEVE BEFORE I SAW THEIR REACTION?   ASKING FOR A FRIEND Have something you'd love a Master Hypnotist to unpack? Send Rebecca the awkward question, the relationship question, the subconscious pattern you can't explain, or the weird thing you do that makes absolutely no sense to you. Why Beauty Matters to Your Brain | The Psychology of Beauty, Your Home & Your Mind

Why does beauty affect us so deeply? Why can walking into a beautiful room change how you feel before you've consciously thought anything at all? Why does a beautiful notebook make you want to write? Why do certain objects instantly bring back memories? Why can being near water, walking through a garden, listening to music, or watching a sunset shift your entire state? In Episode 156 of Elevate Your Mind, Master Hypnotist and Subconscious Expert Rebecca Wiener McGregor explores the fascinating relationship between beauty, the brain, the subconscious mind, memory, creativity, environment, attention, and pleasure. Beauty is often treated as decoration—something extra we add after everything important is finished. But human beings have been creating beauty for thousands of years. We paint. Make music. Decorate our homes and bodies. Plant gardens. Create patterns. Arrange flowers. Design beautiful everyday objects. Why? And what is happening in the mind when we encounter something we find beautiful? In this episode, Rebecca explores: • Why beautiful environments can affect the way we feel • How your surroundings communicate with your subconscious mind • The relationship between environment, attention, and behavior • Why certain objects become emotionally connected to memories • How scent, music, color, and sensory experiences trigger associations • Why a beautiful workspace can invite creativity • How our environments can become cues for habits and identity • Why clutter isn't simply about having "too much stuff" • Why we save the beautiful dishes, candles, perfume, stationery, and journals • The psychology of using and receiving beautiful things • Why nature, water, flowers, sunsets, and awe capture our attention • How beauty and pleasure fit into a meaningful life • The difference between experiencing beauty and performing beauty for other people   One idea sits at the heart of this episode: Your home is one of the conversations your subconscious lives inside every day. And perhaps beauty doesn't have to impress anyone to matter. It only has to reach you. This isn't an episode about interior design or making your life look perfect. It's a conversation about perception—and what beauty may be doing to the mind that encounters it. And there's one question I'd love you to carry with you after you listen: What is already beautiful in your life... and are you letting yourself experience it?   Asking for a Friend Have a question you've always wanted to ask about the subconscious mind—or simply about being human? Your question can be about psychology, hypnosis, relationships, money, confidence, leadership, creativity, beauty, your home, habits, manifestation, grief, identity, or a weird thing your mind does that you've never understood. The awkward questions are welcome. The vulnerable questions are welcome. And yes... you can absolutely be Asking for a Friend.
