I strongly agree with Susan Glasser’s opinion that the government is already probably irretrievably controlled by masochistic anti-democratic authoritarian narcissists. I believe it’s going to be very difficult, possibly impossible, to replace this system of government unless something utterly catastrophic happens not long before the next election. I live in the rural west, some of my neighbors are actively MAGA, most of them are conservative because rural life is by nature fairly conservative. The pro-democracy political movement must find a way to talk effectively with center and center right people, most of whom don’t see this administration‘s policies in their normal lives. To put it another way, most western rural people care more about water quantity than water quality and don’t understand that their entire water system is not reliable.
