Oregon Football's 2023 recruiting class gets bolstered on the D-line

Oregon Football's 2023 recruiting class gets bolstered on the D-line

When Dan Lanning was hired away from Georgia to be Oregon Football's head coach, Duck fans rightly began to envision high-level defenses coming to Eugene. That has to start on the recruiting trail, and the Ducks are now sitting at #15 nationally in recruiting according to 247Sports after landing 2 verbal commitments on the defensive line. Those names are 3-star DL My'Keil Gardner and 4-star DL Terrance Green, bringing the 2023 verbal commitment total to 13 players.
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin answers multiple mailbag questions to wrap up the week. Dan Lanning has been adamant since taking the HC job that Oregon is a national brand, and was almost doing a sales pitch to other conferences with some of his remarks at Pac-12 media day--while simultaneously not speculating about the Ducks' future conference. What should Oregon fans make of the branding work Lanning has been doing off the field for the Ducks this year?
Another question comes in about Oregon's schematic approach under Mario Cristobal, who clearly had one style and vision as to how to win football games. How much of an upgrade could Lanning and his staff provide from an Xs and Os standpoint in 2022?

Could Oregon Football see 2023 5-star WR Jurrion Dickey flip?

Could Oregon Football see 2023 5-star WR Jurrion Dickey flip?

Dan Lanning and his staff have so far been outstanding on the recruiting trail since taking over Oregon Football in January. Still, needs remain from a recruiting standpoint in 2023 and there are a bevy of names that the Ducks are pursuing after missing a couple high-profile prospects like 5-star RB Richard Young. One name Oregon will continue to have to recruit is Jurrion Dickey--who's already a verbal commitment in the 2023 cycle. Could his fishing hobby really help keep him committed to Eugene?
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by John Garcia Jr., director of recruiting for Sports Illustrated. He shares his insights on Oregon's latest recruiting pursuits as Dan Lanning and DC Tosh Lupoi continue to pursue the Ducks' future defensive line and more. Bodies are needed on the offensive line, and 4-star OL Caleb Lomu is a name that Adrian Klem and co. have in their sights whenever he commits.
Finally, John talks about the sort of player Oregon is getting in 4-star 2023 DL Terrance Green and why his athleticism and versatility will be a welcome addition to the Ducks' defense in future years. Terrance Green is a noteworthy addition to the Ducks' 2023 class, but other names like 4-star DT A'umari Washington will continue to pop up on Oregon's radar as they fill out Dan Lanning's first full recruiting cycle in Eugene.

How many all-conference performers will Oregon Football have in 2022?

How many all-conference performers will Oregon Football have in 2022?

The official Pac-12 pre-season all-conference teams have been released, and Oregon Football has 13 total players spread across the first/second teams and the honorable-mention list. The first-teamers include LB Noah Sewell, DL Brandon Dorlus, and returning OL Alex Forsythe and TJ Bass. Which players not named to one of these lists by the Pac-12 media might be on it by the time the season ends?
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin looks at who Oregon Football's top performers might be in 2022. Offensively, the potential breakout stars in his view stem from what Duck fans are hoping will be a philosophical adjustment on offense in the passing game. If Bo Nix and OC Kenny Dillingham can facilitate the ball more effectively to WRs and TEs in the passing game in 2022, names like Dont'e Thornton, Troy Franklin, and Terrance Ferguson could shine this year.
Defensively, Oregon fans are rightfully anxious to see what Dan Lanning can do with players like Noah Sewell and Justin Flowe who have NFL-level talent. The linebacker position is the strongest core on The Ducks' defense this year, meaning players will need to step up in the secondary and at the EDGE position after losing Kayvon Thibodeaux to the NFL Draft. Could 5-star CB Dontae Manning finally look the part? Will Trikweze Bridges shine returning to playing safety? And what about DJ Johnson now being a full-time defensive player?

BREAKING NEWS: Oregon Basketball gets commitment from the #2 player in the country!

BREAKING NEWS: Oregon Basketball gets commitment from the #2 player in the country!

After losing a verbal commitment from a top-5 2023 recruit in Mookie Cook, Dana Altman and his staff have landed a MAJOR verbal commitment from Kwame Evans Jr., the #2 player in the ESPN 300. In what has been and up-and-down recruiting cycle for Dana Altman and co., landing Evans is a MASSIVE get for the 2023 recruiting class. All eyes for Duck fans now turn back to Cook, who at one point earlier had been talked about as a potential recruiting pairing with Evans.

Who will contend with Oregon Football for a Pac-12 Championship in 2022?

Who will contend with Oregon Football for a Pac-12 Championship in 2022?

Oregon Football's 10-win season in 2022 did not yield the postseason results that Duck fans were hoping for, but the good news is they should be conference contenders once again. At Pac-12 media days over the weekend, the media members picked Oregon second to Utah in the Pac-12 in 2022. Who else could contend for a conference crown along with the Ducks?
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Max Torres (@mtorressports) to talk about the weekend's Pac-12 media days and his biggest takeaways after covering the Ducks down in Los Angeles. George Kliavkoff took a decisive and aggressive tone when answering questions and talking about the prospect of further conference realignment. Though it's encouraging to see the commissioner willing to fight for the Pac-12 and take attacks on it personally, he is not in a position to stop Oregon from leaving IF an offer came from a superior league.
Dan Lanning continues to check boxes in a good way as Oregon's head coach, showing himself to be poised while speaking with excited energy when talking about the progrum. Oregon's roster is one of the best in the Pac-12, and that coupled with the expectations of competing for conference championships mean a high bar should be set for his first year by Oregon fans. Can they get over the hump against Utah and/or have another 10-win season?

Why Dan Lanning shined at Pac-12 media days for Oregon Football

Why Dan Lanning shined at Pac-12 media days for Oregon Football

Over the weekend, Dan Lanning got to experience his first Pac-12 conference media days as Oregon Football's head coach. He espoused a variety of positive messages and statements and the way that he talks about his team and the progrum should make Oregon fans excited. Lanning is young and in the grand scheme of things hasn't been a football coach for very long--but he appears to be more than prepared to be a head coach.
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Rian Winter (@SportsChat503) to talk about how Oregon's new head coach represented himself and the progrum over the weekend in Los Angeles. His excitement levels appears to be hardly containable when talking about the opportunity to be at Oregon and what that entails. One of their favorite things he said was with regards to Oregon's ability to be competitive nationally, and how as a result they should and will schedule quality non-conference opponents
Oregon Football was picked by the Pac-12 media members to be the 2nd-most likely team to win the conference in 2022, ahead of USC and UCLA while trailing Utah--the defending champs. The Ducks were not competitive against the Utes in 2 games in 2022, but Lanning and co. have the opportunity (and the tools) to flip at least part of the script and have stronger showings this year. The roster is certainly talented enough to compete for a Pac-12 championship.

Appreciate that the host is so well prepared and speaks clearly and thoughtfully. Many podcasters seem challenged by the English language.
