This is a great podcast to learn about a variety of learning and development topics, regardless of how long you’ve been in the industry - or if you are brand new to it. After I listened to a half-dozen episodes, I plunked down some dough to get his audiobook, Things I Wish I Knew Before Becoming an Instructional Designer. With the help of a friend who was a professional Instructional Designer, I applied these teachings to the software applications recommended and trained myself on them for a couple months while doing the arudous job search. In May 2023 I started a job as an Instructional Designer for a major tech enterprise and, I can proudly say after working 20 years in marketing, I am so glad to have made the leap. ID is a natural fit for me with passion, purpose, professionalism, and steady paycheck. (Having a fantastic healthcare plan is the sweetest icing on the ID cake.) Listen to the Doctor!

The Dr. Luke Hobson Podcast is no doubt at the top of the list of best podcasts for instructional designers. It’s a rare occasion when I’m not sharing episodes of this podcast with my professional communities on LinkedIn and other social media platforms.

Luke sets a wonderful tone and environment for learning about instructional design. It gives me this “Sunday morning radio with a cup of tea” vibe while helping me connect to resources, information, and people.

Luke Hobson does an incredible job translating instructional design to the every day person. He gives great suggestions for processes and products. Always love to hear his nerd alerts! PS – his YouTube channel is worth a watch too!

Dr. Hobson does a great job in covering a wide variety of topics in his podcasts and brings in industry experts from time to time. I recommend it for folks new to ID as well as mid-level and even senior IDs.

I am new to the world instructional design, and I started to search for podcasts that would help me better understand the ID jargon (among many, MANY other things). Enter, this podcast! Luke Hobson has such enthusiasm for this for field…and a sincerity to see others succeed in it. Whether you’re interested in higher ed or corporate ID (or trying to learn the difference between the two!), Luke has the answer. I especially enjoyed the Karl Kapp interview. Thank you, Dr. Hobson! Highly recommended!
