    Remain Ready | Weston Stutz | Captivate Church

    This Sunday we continued our series W8 ON THE LORD talking about what it looks like to remain ready while in the wait. We often pray and hope in life for our dream job, spouse, mentor, new best friend, calling, etc to appear or suddenly walk through the door. But the question for this weekend was… If that happened, would we be ready? There would almost be nothing worse than getting the thing we prayed for yet not being ready to actually receive it. Jesus wants us ready for when God walks by our lives looking for someone he can use. In fact, in John 15, what is perhaps the most helpful scripture in the Bible on waiting on the Lord, Jesus helps us ensure that when the “Gardener” walks by, he likes what he sees. Jesus wants to help us be ready for our next Kingdom opportunity. Jesus wants the Father to see fruit in our lives that he is pleased with, whether anyone else in the world is pleased or not because the fruit the world likes and the fruit that he likes are often very different. We unpacked this in a message called, “Remain Ready.”

    Hey God! Did You Forget About Me? | Toby Bowker | Captivate Church

    Have you ever prayed for something so long that you started wondering if God even heard you? Or watched everyone else’s prayers get answered while you’re still waiting on yours? Yeah… waiting can get frustrating. But what if we’ve misunderstood what it means to wait on the Lord? Waiting on God doesn’t mean putting your life on hold until He answers. It means learning to live with expectation, trusting that He’s still working even when we can’t see it. There’s purpose in the waiting, joy in His presence, and an opportunity to grow in our faith BEFORE the breakthrough comes. This week we dove into Isaiah 40 and discovered how to stop missing what God is doing RIGHT NOW because we’re so focused on what He hasn’t done yet.     W8ers: Friends That Wait With You | Weston Stutz | Captivate Church

    We continued our series “W8 ON THE LORD,” as this Sunday was Communities Takeover Sunday! Last week we talked about the spiritual practice of waiting on God, but waiting can be really hard when we’re doing it alone. Statistically, we as Americans are not the best at doing this thing called “friendship.” In fact the word “friend” is a very loosely used term that could either describe someone you’ve known your whole life or someone you literally met today. Although we are more connected online than we’ve ever been, stats show that people in our culture are more lonely than they’ve ever been… Insert Jesus.  One of Jesus’ greatest miracles in the Gospels, that does not get talked about enough, is that while being a guy in his 30’s… Jesus had 12 good friends… Well… 11 to be more accurate. Jesus had deep and long lasting friendships that endured the craziest levels of hardship and persecution. When Jesus went through hell his friends waited for him, prayed for him, and stood by his side.  We all need friends like that. We need people in our corner who remind us that we don’t have to rush through life, prove ourselves, or have everything figured out. We need people who will stick with us when things are good, but especially when they aren’t. We all need people who don’t just want something from us but want something for us. That’s the kind of friendship Jesus modeled.  This week, as we celebrated community together, we asked some pretty important questions: Who are the people helping you follow Jesus? Who are you pursuing? And are you the kind of friend who remains when life gets hard?     Celebrating 8 Years of Captivate | Weston Stutz | Captivate Church

    This Sunday we celebrated 8 years of Captivate Church and stepped into a brand new series called, “W8 ON THE LORD” with a message about what it looks like to trust God in the waiting. If we're honest, waiting is hard. We live in a world that tells us everything should happen faster… getting answers, reaching success, experiencing breakthroughs. Our world does not value waiting… but God does. When we’re waiting God is watching. He wants to know if he can trust us with what he is waiting to give us. And we’re not alone in the waiting, every biblical character that followed the Lord had to wait for breakthroughs and highlights.  This week we took a look at the life of David, perhaps the most talked about and celebrated character in the Bible outside of Jesus. David’s highlights are well documented and talked about and yet only make up about 2% of his story. David had to wait a lot, and specifically for this week, he had to wait in caves while hiding from his enemies. And yet it’s in the cave of waiting where God forms him into the King of Israel that was after God’s heart. Before he was the King of Israel, he learned to be the King of the Cave and praise the Lord all the way through it. And as we celebrate eight years of Captivate, there is no better reminder for where we're going next: we don't want to rush ahead of God.
