    Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

This episode of The EYEJ Speaks Podcast gave us the opportunity to speak with Erica DeValve and Mai Moore about their backgrounds and further thoughts on the EYEJ Speaks Facebook live topic of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Erica DeValve, who provided some great points and quotes, graduated from Princeton University and is currently a Graduate student within the Masters of Divinity Program at Fuller Theological Seminary. Mai Moore, who is very familiar to the podcast and always brings something new and poignant to the conversation, is the Founder and Executive Director of EYEJ. As we picked up from where the EYEJ Speaks Facebook live topic left off, we carried our conversations into a follow up of some quotes that were provided by Erica such as "Intentional steps, intentional actions" and "Being non racist facilitates inaction". Mai gave what I believe to be a quote for all movements to live by, "Action is not important...it's imperative."  In addition to these quotes, we took time to address the non racist and anti racist topics that are in the headlines.  We appreciate the time that Erica and Mai took out of their respective days to speak on the podcast. They continue the quality conversations that have been held on The EYEJ Speaks Podcast and add their own special perspectives.  We hope you enjoy this episode and continue to tune in to The EYEJ Speaks Podcast where we provide thought provoking conversations and content that aims to empower everyone. Please consider joining the #EMPOWER campaign in supporting the EYEJ Youth Council as they look to recover from the impact that COVID-19 has had on them and their families plus #EMPOWER the work of EYEJ. Achieving a Positive Mindset

On this episode of the EYEJ Speaks Podcast, we spoke about Achieving a Positive Mindset. This topic hit as close to home as possible as my personal endeavours encompass positivity and that all important, positive mindset. Starting the day with a positive state of mind and setting yourself to keep that positive state of mind throughout the day, makes an incredible difference! We had the pleasure of speaking to three of the guests from the EYEJ Speaks Facebook Live event that aired on July 2, 2020 on Facebook Live as well as Zoom. The conversation on Facebook was just as intriguing as the conversation we had on the podcast. The guests that were able to join us included Jackie Stavros, Brady Lorek and Katie Ross. Jackie Stavros is an author and professor at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. She has written several books including "Conversations Worth Having" which she speaks about on the podcast. Brady Lorek is an educator at the Cleveland International School in Cleveland, Ohio. Brady works with the youth and provides great insight and ideas on cultivating spaces of trust and mutual respect. Katie Ross has been a guest on previous podcasts and always provides a wealth of information and tips from her experience as Program Director of EYEJ and working directly with the youth of YODJ on a regular basis. This is one of the longer episodes to date but it is also one that brings so much positivity and ways to achieve a positive mindset that not one minute should be missed! We speak about Appreciative Inquiry (AI), masking issues, negative mindsets & health issues, negative labels, respond vs. react, taking the little wins & making them into big wins as well as positive wording. There's so much to learn from this episode it almost demands to be saved and replayed on those occasions when you or someone else needs ideas on how to raise the positivity level and keep the positivity flowing. As always, thanks for tuning in and we'll catch you next time! Civil Rights

In this episode we spoke about one of the more relevant topics of the current time and climate, Civil Rights. We were happy to be joined by two guest speakers from the EYEJ Speaks Facebook live event, Emily Martin and Maranda Priah. Emily is a Communications and Outreach Specialist for the Fair Housing Center for Rights and Research in addition to being a YODJ Speaker with EYEJ. Maranda is a double major in Sociology and Psychology at Case Western Reserve University as well as a Youth Speaker with EYEJ. We learned more about each guest and their reply to a statement made by one of the viewers from the EYEJ Speaks Facebook live event regarding uncomfortable conversations with people who are not like minded. Both guests gave great insights from their individual perspectives and experience. We are extremely appreciative of their time and the work that they are doing for the community. If there weren't people like Emily and Maranda who are willing to take a moment to take a chance in making a difference, this world would be in a much worse condition.  If you missed the EYEJ Speaks Facebook live event on Civil Rights, you can still tune in here.
