Ep 236 - You're the Oppressor: Critical Theory's War on Parents, Children, and Reality [Carpe Fide]

The CEO of PragerU flagged it and Justin and Jesse ran it down: "adultism" is the newest critical theory movement, and it is currently being trained into educators at universities by a consulting firm that cannot run its own company according to its own principles. The idea is straightforward — adults oppress children by doing things like setting rules, making curriculum choices, and sometimes hugging them without asking first. Justin and Jesse trace the whole framework from Movement Consulting's anti-capitalist university trainings through a real April 2026 session at a San Francisco high school that explicitly labeled teachers as oppressors and students as the oppressed — and then explain where the "bodily autonomy for children" argument terminates, because that endpoint is not subtle. They also cover Karl Marx's actual family history (it is not good), the John Adams HBO scene about a drunk son that has more to say about parenting than any critical theory article, and why the church needs to be louder about this specifically. If you've ever had someone tell you that talking down to your child is oppression, this episode is the response. Ep 13 - SpyGame [Bluey and the Bible]

Justin and Jesse take on an episode that neither of them ranks as a favorite — and still pull out a full table's worth of truth. When Bluey's spy-potion game collapses under her own bossiness, the fallout becomes a picture of why God designed us for community from the very first pages of Scripture. Along the way: a rock-stacking metaphor that doesn't quite stick, a cup in the ocean, and Bluey learning to put Bingo first.   What we unpack this episode: - The meltdown — assigned roles nobody wants, and how "taking your ball and going home" wrecks the game. - Bossiness bites back — Bluey refuses to use Bingo's pretend name (Sparkle Shocks), then kicks her out entirely. - Bandit's pack metaphor — "We all have a place in the pack," even when the stack-of-rocks illustration doesn't land. - The turn — Bluey realizes the game is simply better with her sister in it, and finally apologizes. - Putting others first — Bluey steps back so Bingo can take the moment, a picture of Christ-shaped humility.   Scripture in this episode: - Genesis 2:18 — "It is not good that man should be alone"; community is built into creation. - Ephesians 3:17-19 — rooted in love and filled with God's fullness, known together "with all the saints." - Hebrews 10:24-25 — a staple verse at our church: don't forsake gathering; spur one another on. - Philippians 2:1-4 — count others more important than yourself; the opposite of selfish ambition.   Books & resources: - Path of Progress — a gamified chore-and-discipleship app for families (30-day free trial at pathofprogress.ca). Ep 235 - Mamdani vs. Franklin & Jefferson: Epic Speech Battles of History! [Carpe Fide]

Two weeks after reacting to NYC Mayor Mamdani's Fourth of July speech, Justin and Jesse bring in the contrast: the founders, speaking for themselves. They read Benjamin Franklin's 1787 speech calling for prayer at the Constitutional Convention — the one where he quotes three Bible verses in three paragraphs and asks why a room full of the most educated men in America forgot to consult "the Father of lights." Then they read the part of the Declaration of Independence you've never seen: Thomas Jefferson's original draft included a full grievance against the king for forcing the slave trade on the colonies, calling it "piratical warfare, the opprobrium of infidel powers." It was removed — not because Virginia opposed it, but because South Carolina and Georgia refused to sign unless it was cut. James Madison predicted there would be war within 60 years if slavery wasn't resolved. He was right. If you've ever wanted to watch two founding fathers comprehensively out-argue every modern politician without even trying, this is the episode. Ep 234 - The Wrong Side of the Desk: Mamdani's Speech Scrutinized [Carpe Fide]

NYC Mayor Mamdani sat down on the wrong side of George Washington's desk on July 3rd, squinting into a teleprompter, and turned America's 250th birthday into a 15-minute grievance list. Justin and Jesse go through the whole speech live — the "masked agents stealing your neighbors away in unmarked vans" line, the wealth redistribution language, the claim that American exceptionalism belongs to those who demand more from the government, the Thomas Paine quote (that one gets unpacked in full, and it matters), and the "love it or leave it is actually wrong" closer that somehow ends with no answer to the question of what you're supposed to do instead. They also cover July 9, 1776 — when Washington actually read the Declaration to his troops in City Hall Park — and preview next week's contrast episode using a historical speech from the founding era. If you've ever watched a politician quote Thomas Paine to a room of newly naturalized citizens while sitting backward at the Founding Father's desk and wondering if he knows what any of this means, this episode is your catharsis. Ep 233 - The World Owes America An Apology [Carpe Fide]

Turns out the country everyone warned the world about has air conditioning, free bread, and people who'll drive a total stranger to a soccer game for free. With the World Cup on American soil and the nation turning 250, Justin and Jesse dig into the flood of foreign tourists discovering — on camera, in real time — that America isn't the crime-ridden hellscape they were promised. They get into the viral "first time in America" reaction videos, the absurd generosity of regular Americans, biscuits and gravy as a national treasure, and why all of this abundance traces straight back to a founding built on God's word. If you've ever rolled your eyes at your own country while the rest of the world begs to get in, this episode is your reminder to look up and say thank you. Ep 232 - Grifting in the Name of God: When Clickbait Replaces the Great Commission [Carpe Fide]

Preamble: Who doesn't like free stickers? I offer some if you find the spot and follow the directions. BUT you're gonna have to slog a decent way through the episode to find it...if you do, message us and I'll get you what you deserve ;-)  Oh look, another internet theologian has figured out how to solve America’s deepest cultural wounds, and surprise! It involves a shocking amount of state-sponsored executions and zero actual Gospel. In this episode, the guys welcome long-time friend in ministry Nathan McCargo to dissect a recent viral video where Joel Webbon asks "How can America best love Blacks?" and somehow lands on "generous use of the death penalty" for everything from murder to horse thievery. Because nothing says neighborly love quite like a statist power-trip disguised as reformed theology. The team does the unthinkable—actually looking up the data—and shocks absolutely no one by discovering that Webbon’s confident claims about "unbiased white jurors" are about as real as a peaceful internet debate. From mocking the lazy trope that "the Boomers just need to die off" to pointing out how easily clickbait grifting replaces the Great Commission, this conversation cuts through the haughty, faux-warrior vibes to expose an ideology that's radically unbiblical. Tune in for a deadpan breakdown of why you can't build a Christian culture by out-statist-ing the state, why the power of the Gospel is severely underestimated, and why your favorite online polemicist might just be trying to pay his streaming bills. Ep 231 - Mary Didn't Consent: The Theology of James Talarico, Debunked [Carpe Fide]

A Texas Democratic politician went on Joe Rogan and explained that the angel Gabriel asked Mary for her consent before the virgin birth, that God is non-binary because Hebrew nouns have grammatical gender, and that Christians had no theological position on abortion until the religious right invented one in the 1970s — and Joe Rogan said "you should run for president." Justin and Jesse play the clips, open the actual Bible, and walk through Luke 1, Exodus 21, Jeremiah 1, and Genesis 1 to show exactly how every single argument falls apart when you read the text. They also cover the Ten Commandments bill Talarico called "idolatrous," the Eagles Pride post that earned Jesse's comment nearly 1,000 likes, and why a pastor who can't say the word "God" because it "carries too much baggage" is not running a church. Ep 230 - Debunking Political Posturing: Memorial Day Mayhem & the NJ ICE Protest [Carpe Fide]

Welcome to Episode 230, where Justin and Jesse examine how a holiday meant for honoring fallen soldiers somehow morphed into a hyper-local dumpster fire of performative activism. Apparently, the latest trend for progressive politicians involves treating Memorial Day like a personal brand expansion, complete with highly coordinated tone-deafness and a side of crowd-control chemicals. We dive deep into the recent chaos at the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, where local representatives decided to rally against ICE based on a five-page letter that looks like it was penned by a toddler learning Spanish. Naturally, what was supposed to be a righteous display of solidarity quickly dissolved into an unhinged scuffle, resulting in several prominent figures getting a face full of pepper spray. We break down the absolute irony of politicians trying to "calm the crowd" they actively riled up, only to learn the hard way that chaotic crowds don't care about your legislative title. Finally, we shift our focus to the legislative assembly as New Jersey attempts to play a game of progressive one-upmanship with California. We dissect the quiet, bureaucratic push of Bill S2260—a piece of litigation so aggressively overreaching that it effectively attempts to nullify the First Amendment near reproductive health facilities. From "shield state" posturing to creating brand new criminal offenses for standing on a sidewalk, we unpack exactly how much this incoming legal trainwreck is going to cost Garden State taxpayers in inevitable court defeats. LINKS  Here's an overview article about what went down at Delaney Hall "The Letter" in case you want to read it (or translate it)  yourself Here's bill S2260.
