The Brain BS™ Podcast

Maureen Kafkis

Maureen Kafkis is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy, the Brain BS™ coach, and the host of The Brain BS™ Podcast (previously The Power of Community & Collaboration Podcast). When she learned that the average human brain has over 60,000 thoughts a day and that most of them are lies (Brain BS™) that cause needless suffering, she started to learn how to separate the fact from fiction in her mind and has never looked back. Maureen truly believes that living consciously, understanding how your brains work, and learning to feel your feelings are necessary for an empowering and fulfilling life. She brings her expertise and extensive knowledge to inspire people in the SB area and beyond to learn how to live consciously, tap into their personal power and become leaders in their community.  In a world where there is so much division and way too much focus on competition, the Brain BS™ Coach is promoting a conscious community and lifestyle built on leadership energy, collaboration, and mutual support. She is doing that because the power of the collective far exceeds anything that can be done at the individual level and it’s just way more fun! If we all consciously collaborate with one another and succeed together we can have a substantial ripple effect that will extend far beyond our local community. Listen and learn how you can add value to your own community! Check out https://www.thebrainbs.com/ to learn more about the Brain BS™ Coach and what she is all about!

    262) Learning About Tourette Sydrome

In this episode I discuss Tourette Syndrome with Jessica Sneed who is a mother and a metabolic health coach. We discuss what it's like for her to have a son with Tourettes and we discuss what it's like for me to be dealing with a flare up of it after decades of doing fairly well. By the end of the episode you will have a better understanding of what life is like for somebody with Tourettes, and hopefully tap into compassion for the people who are challenged with it, and maybe even be inspired to stop hiding your own disability or limitation. And it turns out the timing is perfect because it is Tourette's Awareness Month from 5/15-6/15!  So listen to this episode and get yourself educated about Tourettes and then share the episode with somebody else so they can get educated too. Here is Jessica Sneed's link if you want to reach out to her about her work or about being a parent of a child with Tourette Syndrome www.JessicaMackenzie.love Click on the platform of your choice to listen to the latest episode, follow the podcast and write a review so we can spread the news and reach more people!    Apple Podcasts  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-brain-bs-podcast-learning-to-live-consciously/id1548758744?i=1000643769866 Spotify  https://open.spotify.com/show/4RWxW7Ni1EHTAywriOwY9z?si=d9c181834529414d Google Podcasts https://podcasts.google.com/search/The%20Brain%20BS%20Podcast Amazon Music https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/09208f98-6c21-4fea-abbf-14a495cabd09/the-brain-bs-podcast-learning-to-live-consciously I Heart Radio https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-the-brain-bs-podcast-learn-76710324/ Pandora https://www.pandora.com/podcast/the-brain-bs-podcast-learning-to-live-consciously/PC:60845   We all have our own shit and what we perceive to be shortcomings in life. Every. One. Of. Us. I'm suggesting maybe we should all stop hiding our perceived flaws and recognize that we are all way more alike than we are different. Shame can't live in the light of day and we can't get support from others if they don't know we need it. 261) My Post-Construction Mindset Inspired 3 Big Changes

In this episode, I am pretty transparent about how the house construction project impacted my mindset and my nervous system. In fact, I am so open in it that it actually made it uncomfortable for me to listen back to it. However, a huge part of managing Brain BS™ and living consciously requires me to be honest and authentic. So I am AGAIN getting comfortable with being uncomfortable:) In addition to sharing some personal info, I share some changes I am making that I believe could benefit you too. I mention a book several times called Indoor Epidemic written by John LaPuma. This is the link to the book: https://www.amazon.com/Indoor-Epidemic-Years-Outdoor-Restores-ebook/dp/B0G6MM2B5S For many of you, the New Year began in January. For me, it's beginning now with our new home, my new mindset, and getting back to talking about Brain BS™.  I am ready to make some positive and simple changes and maybe I can inspire you to make some too! 256) The Elephant Project & So Much More!

This week on The Power of Community & Collaboration Podcast I speak with Kristina McKean about The Elephant Project in Thailand. We discuss her love for animals and how it inspired her to start this amazing project that has saved thousands of elephants and now cats and dogs as well.  This is a thought provoking conversation that will hopefully deter you from riding elephants when you learn about what those poor animals have to endure at the hands of humans who want to break their spirit. I also suspect that listening to Kristina, who is a great role model for how powerful one person can be,  will inspire you to tap into your own leadership energy so that you can find your own way to make a difference and contribute to community.   I am sharing the link to The Elephant Project and Kristina's TED Talk that illuminates the power of one!  https://www.theelephantproject.com/? gad_source=1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJXmFxJ6LPQClick on the platform of your choice to listen to the latest podcast episode, follow the podcast, and write a review so we can spread the news and reach more people! 255) There is No Room for Contempt in our Relationships

In this episode I am speaking about contempt. I am sure you see evidence of it like I do when you look around the world and the way we are all interacting with one another in 2025. What you might not be aware of is that the way we treat one another stems from our subconscious programming and that we can actually change that if we are inspired.  I share with you what I have learned about contempt in intimate relationships from author and therapist Terrence Real who wrote the book US. I also share with you what I have learned from Tim Shriver who founded an organization called UNITE that created the Dignity Index, which measures how we treat one another with contempt when we disagree. At the end of the day, our relationships and how we show up to everybody in the world means everything. I hope you take time to listen to this episode because the quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.
