    How to Stay Salty

These days, “salty” usually means bitter, annoyed, or holding a grudge, and let’s be honest, teaching gives us plenty of those days. But the Bible describes "salty" as something completely different! In this episode, we dig into the Gospels, where Jesus tells His disciples, “You are the salt of the earth.” If you’re a busy teacher who struggles to make time for your Bible, this one's for you. Your time with God doesn’t have to look like a perfect Instagram photo. In this episode:The difference between modern “salty” and biblical saltinessWhat Jesus meant by “You are the salt of the earth”How salt was purified in Bible times, and what that means for usHow we lose our saltiness, and how to stay plugged into the SourceSimple, realistic ways to stay in the Word as a busy teacherScripture in this episode: 📖 Matthew 5:13 📖 Luke 14:34–35 💌 Get new episodes, resources, and my free Christmas devotional (coming this month!!) in your inbox: jillcoreymiller.substack.com CONNECT WITH TEACHER, BE STILL Teacher, Be Still exists to encourage and equip educators to pursue discipleship with Jesus so they can be a light in their schools, homes, and communities. The Call of a Teacher

Is teaching just a job, or is it a calling? This week, I’m sharing what I’ve been learning from Timothy Keller’s Every Good Endeavor, a book I picked up off my shelf and couldn’t put down. We talk about the difference between a job and a calling, why every kind of work has dignity, and how God gives each of us unique gifts so He can work through us to bless the people around us. We also get honest about something teachers struggle with constantly: letting our work take the seat in our lives that belongs to God alone. If you’re weary, if you feel undervalued, or if teaching has quietly become all-consuming, this one’s for you. You were placed in your school, in this moment in history, by the one true King. Your work matters, and you carry His image into your classroom every day. In this episode:The difference between a job and a callingWhy all work has dignity, no matter the paycheckHow your unique gifts are meant to bless othersKeeping your job from becoming an idolCaring for students, parents, and coworkers as an image bearer of GodMentioned in this episode: 📖 Every Good Endeavor by Timothy Keller: GET YOUR COPY HERE CONNECT WITH TEACHER, BE STILL Teacher, Be Still exists to encourage and equip educators to pursue discipleship with Jesus so they can be a light in their schools, homes, and communities. When Hope Feels Lost

In a world where politics can stir up strong emotions, it's easy to place our hope in an elected official or a candidate we believe can change everything. As educators, we care deeply about our schools, our students, our families, and the future of the next generation. It's understandable that we want leaders who will make a difference. But no person, no matter how capable or well-intentioned, can do what only God can do. In this episode of The Teacher, Be Still Podcast, we're reminded that our hope was never meant to rest in a political candidate, a government, or a person in power. Our hope belongs to Jesus Christ—the Creator of all things, the One who spoke the world into existence and continues to hold it all together. Through Hebrews 11:1–3, we'll reflect on the power of faith and the God who created the world by His word. The same God who spoke creation into being is the God who has proven Himself faithful throughout history and remains faithful today. While people and circumstances change, God's character does not. He is trustworthy, He is sovereign, and He is more than capable of caring for His people. As Christian educators, we're called to engage with the world around us, but we're also called to remember where our ultimate allegiance and hope belong. We can care about elections without placing our faith in elected officials. We can advocate for our students without believing that one candidate holds the power to fix everything. And we can face an uncertain future with confidence because our trust rests in the One who created it all. Scripture: Hebrews 11:1–3 A reminder for today: Put your hope in Jesus, not in a person. Political leaders will come and go, but God remains faithful. The One who spoke the world into existence is worthy of your trust. When the Days Feel Long

Are you in a season where life feels overwhelming, your to-do list never ends, and you’re growing weary of trying to do all the things? In Galatians 6:9, we are reminded not to grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. But how do we hold on to that truth when we’re exhausted, stretched thin, and simply trying to keep up with the demands of teaching, family, and everyday life? In this episode of The Teacher, Be Still Podcast, we reflect on what it means to remain faithful in the busy, overwhelming seasons of life. Whether you're an educator feeling pulled in a hundred directions or simply navigating a season that feels like too much, may this conversation encourage you to keep going, rest in God's promises, and remember that your faithful obedience matters—even when you can't yet see the fruit. Scripture: Galatians 6:9 This Week's Reminder: In the busy seasons, don't let weariness distract you from doing good. God sees your faithfulness, and the harvest belongs to Him.
