Aging With Purpose and Passion | Women Over 50

Beverley Glazer, MA, CCC, ICF | Work and Life Transition Coach for Women Over 50

Aging With Purpose and Passion is the award winning podcast for women over 50 who know they're not finished yet. They're navigating reinvention, career change, retirement, relationships, caregiving, and the deeper question of what they want now. Hosted by Beverley Glazer, MA, CCC, a work and life transition coach for women over 50 and midlife reinvention strategist, Aging With Purpose and Passion features stories from women over 50 who have faced change, challenged expectations, rebuilt confidence, and refused to let age — or anything else — define what is still possible. Each week, Beverley and her resilient guests explore reinvention after 50, career change, retirement transitions, menopause, empty nest, caregiving for aging parents, divorce, grief, health challenges, business transitions, entrepreneurship, relationships, ageism, leadership shifts, ambition, resilience, mindset, purpose, and self-trust. These are not polished success stories or generic conversations about starting over. They are real, practical, emotionally intelligent conversations about what happens when the life you built no longer aligns with who you are today. Aging With Purpose and Passion is not about chasing youth, forcing positivity, or pretending change is easy. It is women over 50 and far beyond, telling the truth about what they feel, what they've been through, and what becomes possible when they stop talking themselves out of settling for less. You may come for someone else’s story. You may leave ready to change your own. New conversations released weekly. Betrayal After 50: When You Stop Trusting Yourself | Lora Cheadle

Infidelity, self-blame, empty nest, reconciliation, and rebuilding self-trust when the life you believed in suddenly changes. What happens when someone else’s betrayal makes you question yourself? For women over 50, infidelity can hit at a time when so much is already changing. Children are leaving home. Your body may be changing. The roles that defined you for years are shifting. And suddenly, one discovery can make you question not only your relationship—but your own judgment. In this episode of Aging With Purpose and Passion, Beverley Glazer talks with Lora Cheadle, JD, CHt, betrayal recovery expert, attorney, somatic attachment therapist, clinical hypnotherapist, TEDx speaker, and author of It’s Not Burnout, It’s Betrayal. Just as her youngest was preparing to leave for college, Lora discovered that her husband had been unfaithful for 15 years. What followed wasn't simply anger or heartbreak. There was shock. Evidence to piece together. Self-blame. And the devastating question so many women ask after betrayal: “How could I not have known?” We talk about why betrayal trauma can make even the most capable woman doubt herself, why high-achieving women are so good at performing “I’ve got this” when they’re falling apart, and what happens when you can no longer trust the story you believed about your life. Lora also speaks openly about separation and her eventual decision to reconcile—a choice that brought its own questions and judgment. Without excusing the harm caused by infidelity, she explains how unresolved trauma can contribute to destructive coping, what her husband had to confront in himself, and why reconciliation required them to build something different rather than return to the marriage they had before. But perhaps the most important question wasn't: “Can I trust him again?” It was: “Can I trust myself again?” Because after betrayal, everyone may have an opinion about what you should do. Stay. Leave. Forgive. Don't forgive. But you're the one who has to live with the decision. This conversation is really about what happens after trust breaks—when you have to decide what you believe, what you want, and whether you're willing to trust yourself again. Stay until the end, when Beverley shares key takeaways and practical actions you can begin using immediately. Reinvention After 50: When You Can’t Keep Pushing | Dana Hilmer

Rethinking success, retirement, identity, and what happens when life forces you to change the pace. You can be very good at the life you’ve built and still know you don’t want to keep living it the same way. For many high-achieving women over 50, the hardest transition isn’t leaving a career or approaching retirement. It’s realizing that the drive, productivity, and determination that got you this far may not be what you need now. In this episode of Aging With Purpose and Passion, Beverley Glazer talks with Dana Hilmer, happiness and midlife transitions expert, unretirement coach, and founder of Wiser and Free, about what happens when your old definition of success no longer works. Dana spent years believing that if she worked hard enough, achieved enough, and kept pushing, she would eventually arrive at the life she was supposed to want. But reaching that version of success brought an unexpected realization: it wasn’t enough to look successful from the outside. Her life had to feel right to her. We talk about perfectionism, people pleasing, the persistent feeling of “not good enough,” and why accomplished women can become so identified with what they do that it becomes difficult to ask a much simpler question: How do I actually want to live? Dana shares her “compass point” approach—using how you want to feel about your life as a filter for decisions about work, relationships, purpose, and pace. We also explore unretirement and why leaving a full-time career doesn’t have to mean leaving meaningful work behind. For some women, what comes next may include part-time work, entrepreneurship, creative projects, volunteering, or simply more freedom to decide where their energy goes. Then Dana’s own life forced these ideas off the page. While caring for her father as his Alzheimer’s progressed, a frightening incident was followed by serious physical symptoms and a diagnosis of functional neurological disorder (FND). Dana had always been someone who pushed through. Now she was learning that sometimes the work isn’t to push through at all. It’s to be with what is—and decide from there. This is a conversation about ambition, identity, retirement, caregiving, health, and redefining success when life doesn’t go according to plan. Because the question after 50 isn’t simply, “What am I going to do next?” It’s “How do I want to experience the life I have now?” Stay until the end, when Beverley shares key takeaways and practical actions you can begin using immediately. IN THIS EPISODE Why high-achieving women can struggle with identity after 50When pushing through stops workingHow perfectionism and people pleasing shape our definition of successWhat to do when achievement no longer feels fulfillingHow to figure out what you really want after 50Why retirement can change how you see yourselfWhat unretirement can look like for women over 50Caring for a parent with Alzheimer’sAdapting when your body requires a different paceHow to redefine success on your own termsFor similar episodes check out You've Built a Life Now What that's episode 190 and Retirement After 50 Your Best Work is Not Over that's episode number 185 of Aging with Purpose and Passion. When the Story You Believed Isn’t the Whole Story | Yvonne F. Conte

Family secrets, forgiveness, retirement, and what changes when you see your past with new eyes after 50. What if something you learned after 50 changed the way you understood your family—and yourself? For decades, Yvonne F. Conte believed she knew the story of her childhood. Then one photograph and two documents revealed information she had never known. Nothing about the past changed. But the meaning of it did. In this episode of Aging With Purpose and Passion, Beverley Glazer sits down with the nationally recognized keynote speaker and bestselling author of Beneath Her Smile for a conversation about family secrets, memory, forgiveness, reinvention, and the perspective that can come later in life. Yvonne takes us back to childhood, where humor first became a way to get attention, connect, and feel seen. That instinct would follow her through rebellious teenage years, marriage, divorce, single motherhood, sales, job loss, and an unexpected career reinvention that eventually put her on stages across the country. Then came another transition. After decades of speaking, retirement left Yvonne with more time—but not enough purpose. Writing her memoir brought her back to old memories and forced her to reconsider assumptions she had carried about her parents for most of her life. This conversation is not about pretending painful experiences didn’t matter. It is about what can happen when you finally have enough distance, experience, and information to understand them differently. Beverley and Yvonne explore what it means to revisit the past without becoming trapped in it, how family stories shape identity, why forgiveness is not the same as excusing what happened, and how purpose after 50 can emerge in ways you never expected. For women over 50, there is a deeper question underneath Yvonne’s story: What have you believed about your past simply because it was the only version you knew? Sometimes the facts remain exactly the same. What changes is the way you carry them. Stay until the end, when Beverley shares key takeaways and practical actions you can begin using immediately. In This Episode How childhood experiences shape the stories we carry into adulthoodWhy humor can become a way to cope, connect, and feel seenHow job loss can lead to an unexpected career reinventionWhat retirement can reveal about identity and purpose after 50How family secrets can change the way you understand your parentsRevisiting childhood memories with the perspective of later lifeWhy forgiveness does not mean excusing what happenedHow writing your life story can uncover patterns you never recognizedFinding purpose after retirement when you still want to contributeHow new information can change the meaning of an old storyFor similar episodes check out retirement after 50, Your Best work is Not Done Episode 185 and Who are You Without the Career, Episode 181 of Aging with Purpose and Passion and if you're looking for a podcast that goes beyond money and traditional retirement advice, Beyond retirement with Jacquie Doucette explores how to build a retirement that feels meaningful, intentional, and truly your own. Reinvention After 50: Stop Proving Your Worth

Kim Boudreau Smith on confidence, self-worth, career reinvention, visibility, leadership, and using decades of experience without constantly proving yourself. What if you’ve spent years proving your value—and no longer need to? You’ve built experience, solved difficult problems, taken risks, and learned things no résumé can fully capture. Yet even highly capable women can find their confidence rising and falling with income, recognition, job titles, or whether other people approve of what they’re doing. In this episode of Aging With Purpose and Passion, Beverley Glazer speaks with Kim Boudreau Smith, founder of Her Bold Voice and a Business Growth Strategist, about what changes when women stop measuring their worth by how much they produce—and start trusting the value of what they already know. Kim’s path has never been conventional. She moved from corporate sales and marketing into entrepreneurship, built a successful fitness business, pioneered internet radio before podcasting was mainstream, published three Amazon bestselling anthologies, and has spent decades helping women become more visible and influential in their work. But beneath those accomplishments is a more personal story about confidence, risk, comparison, and the pressure to keep proving yourself. Kim talks candidly about growing up in a working-class family where hard work and security mattered, the peaks and valleys of entrepreneurship, and what happens when business results begin affecting how you feel about yourself. Beverley and Kim also explore the critical inner voice Kim calls “the hag in the attic,” why experienced women still underestimate their value, and the difference between running everything yourself and actually leading. For women building businesses or continuing meaningful careers after 50, they discuss delegation, visibility, thought leadership, comparison with younger women, ageism, and why experience becomes more powerful when you stop trying to be everything to everyone. But this conversation goes beyond business. If you’ve spent years achieving, producing, and proving what you can do, this conversation raises a different question: After everything you’ve already accomplished, what would change if you stopped needing to prove your worth? Stay until the end, when Beverley shares key takeaways and practical actions you can begin using immediately. In this episode:How to stop tying your self-worth to income and achievementWhy successful women still struggle with confidence after 50Making the transition from corporate career to entrepreneurshipHow to stop playing small when you have decades of experienceMoving from running everything yourself to becoming a stronger leaderHow delegation protects your time, energy, and business growthBuilding visibility and thought leadership after 50Dealing with comparison and the critical voice in your headHow women over 50 can use experience as a professional advantageDeciding what you really want from work at this stage of lifeFor similar episodes on owning your power, check out When Success No Longer Fits. 182 and Success, Burnout, and What Really Matters Episode 184 of Aging with Purpose and Passion. When Life Asks More Than You Ever Thought You Could Give

What happens when life asks more of you than you ever imagined you could give? You’ve spent years being capable, solving problems, and being there when people need you. But some things can’t be fixed, planned for, or powered through. Sometimes life changes in an instant—and you become the person everyone is counting on. That’s what happened to Diane Filato. Just weeks after the birth of Diane’s grandson, her daughter began experiencing unexplained symptoms. Then came the diagnosis no family was prepared for: ALS. Suddenly, Diane was facing the unimaginable—watching her daughter’s health decline while preparing to take on a role she never expected: raising her young grandson. In this episode of Aging With Purpose and Passion, Diane shares what happens when grief and responsibility arrive at the same time. She talks candidly about the physical and emotional realities of caregiving, becoming a parent again later in life, helping a child feel safe after losing his mother, and carrying your own grief while trying to be strong for someone else. For women who are accustomed to being the capable one—the person everyone relies on—Diane’s story raises a difficult question: What do you do when life asks more of you than you believe you can give? We talk about the comments grieving families wish people wouldn’t make, why there is no timetable for “moving on,” and how memory, humour, boundaries, and ordinary routines can help create stability when a family’s world has been changed forever. Diane also shares the difference Good Grief made for her family. This community-based grief support program brings grieving children and adults together with people who understand their experience. Diane explains why peer grief support can feel very different from therapy, how children process the death of a parent, and why having a place to speak honestly—without judgment or unsolicited advice—can be so powerful. Whether you are caring for someone you love, grieving a loss, supporting a child through bereavement, taking on an unexpected family responsibility, or simply facing circumstances you never thought would be yours, Diane’s story is about something much larger than tragedy. It is about how you keep showing up when there is no way to make everything okay. Stay until the end, when Beverley shares key takeaways and practical actions you can begin using immediately. Dementia Caregiving: When Is It Time for Memory Care?

Jeannie Duckworth on caregiver guilt, dementia warning signs, memory care, senior living, and making difficult decisions before a crisis forces them. How do you know when keeping an aging parent at home is no longer the safest—or most loving—choice? For many high achieving women, that question comes with enormous guilt. You promised you'd be there. You want your parent to remain independent. And every new problem can seem manageable—until wandering, falls, medication mistakes, dementia, or caregiver exhaustion changes everything. In this episode of Aging With Purpose and Passion, Beverley Glazer speaks with Jeannie Duckworth, founder and CEO of Blue Magnolia Senior Living Advisors, about one of the most difficult transitions families face: recognizing when an aging parent needs more care than the family can safely provide. Jeannie has guided thousands of families through senior living decisions, but her understanding of caregiving also comes from personal experience with caregiving, loss, and rebuilding her own life. Together, Beverley and Jeannie explore the early signs of dementia families often explain away, what can signal that living at home is becoming unsafe, and why moving someone into memory care does not necessarily mean you've abandoned them. Sometimes a specialized setting can provide attention, structure, safety, and support that even the most devoted family cannot provide around the clock. They also discuss caregiver burnout and guilt, the differences between independent living, assisted living, board-and-care homes, and memory care, and why families are better served when these conversations happen before an emergency. Jeannie shares practical areas to address early, including advance directives, medication lists, finances, CPR preferences, and—most importantly—what good care means to the person you love. You'll also hear about caregiver support groups, Alzheimer's resources, and financial assistance that some families may qualify for, including Veterans Aid and Attendance depending on eligibility. If you're caring for an aging parent while also managing your career, family, health, and your own future, this conversation is a reminder that needing help does not mean you stopped caring. The goal isn't to prove how much you can carry. It's to make the best decision you can for everyone involved. Stay until the end, when Beverley shares key takeaways and practical actions you can begin using immediately. Reinvention After 50: When Success Doesn’t Feel Like Yours

Barb Scala on burnout, people-pleasing, identity, golden handcuffs, and redefining success without blowing up your life. What happens when the successful life everyone admires no longer feels like your own? You followed the rules. Earned the credentials. Built the career. Took care of the people who depended on you. From the outside, everything looks right. Inside, you may be exhausted from performing a version of success that was shaped by someone else’s expectations. In this episode of Aging With Purpose and Passion, Beverley Glazer speaks with Barb Scala, an attorney, mediator, entrepreneur, author, and creator of the Seeds for Success™ framework, about what happens when achievement no longer brings fulfillment—and how to make meaningful changes without dismantling your entire life. Barb shares the mixed messages about success that shaped her early choices, why she remained in law school even when she wanted to leave, and how divorce forced her to confront an identity built around being capable, positive, and pleasing to others. Her story will resonate with high-achieving women over 50 who have done everything “right” but still feel burned out, disconnected, or uncertain about who they are beyond their professional and personal roles. Beverley and Barb explore the pull of the golden handcuffs—the income, status, and security that can make an unfulfilling life difficult to leave. They also discuss why financial well-being cannot be separated from emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, and how thoughtful planning, a safety net, and small deliberate steps can make change possible without an impulsive leap. Barb also introduces her BLOOM framework: Believe, Let Go, Own Your Value, Optimize Your Energy, and Manifest. Here, manifesting is not wishful thinking. It is aligned, intentional action grounded in self-worth, clarity, and personal responsibility. If everyone thinks you have it all together—but privately you wonder whether the life you are living is truly yours—this conversation will help you examine what still belongs, what no longer serves you, and how to redefine success on your own terms.
