I’ve been listening to this book podcast for years, and for a long time it’s been one of my go-to comfort listens. I’ve discovered great recommendations through them, enjoyed their chemistry, and appreciated the way they usually balance enthusiasm with thoughtful critique. Even when we don’t share the same taste, I’ve valued their perspectives and the overall good vibe they bring.
That’s why the most recent episodes—especially the latest drop as of February 12, 2026—have been disappointing for me. I’m completely fine with differing opinions. Taste is subjective, and a thoughtful “why this didn’t work for me” can be some of the most interesting book content out there. We all have books (and authors) that just don’t click.
But spending 10+ minutes bashing an author I’ve only read one book from (yes I realize she’s mega popular for many) felt excessive and, honestly, uncomfortable. It crossed the line from critique into prolonged negativity. I don’t tune in to be told how I should feel about a writer, nor do I listen for extended takedowns. I come for a good time, smart recommendations, and worthwhile, balanced discussion. This time, it felt more like mood-lowering commentary than meaningful analysis.
I’m still grateful for the years of enjoyment they’ve given me, and I hope this shift is temporary. I just miss the energy that made the show feel fun, thoughtful, and welcoming rather than heavy and dismissive.
