Bron Watson | Two Diagnoses, One Powerful Shift

Bron Watson, a nurse, educator, and entrepreneur, shares how her life before cancer was driven by constant giving—to her patients, her business, and her family. Despite appearing successful, the pace came at a personal cost. At 48, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, followed quickly by surgery and treatment. Even during chemotherapy, she continued pushing herself until she had a moment of clarity: continuing at that pace could cost her life. That experience became a turning point, forcing her to reevaluate how she was living and reconnect with herself. She later faced a second, unrelated diagnosis—incurable blood cancer—which brought an entirely new level of emotional and physical challenges. Unlike her first experience, where she felt the need to stay strong for everyone else, this time she allowed herself to be vulnerable, especially with her children. She emphasizes the importance of feeling emotions fully, rather than suppressing them, and learning to create space between what’s happening and how we respond. A central theme in Bron’s journey is the power of intuition. She recalls ignoring inner signals before her first diagnosis and now strongly encourages others to listen to their bodies and instincts. She also advocates for becoming an active participant in your own care—building a trusted team, asking questions, and making aligned decisions rather than passively following a plan. Through her work, including The Serenity Project, Bron focuses on helping people reconnect with themselves so they can choose a healing path that feels right for them. She believes healing comes from within and isn’t about fighting illness, but moving through it with intention and awareness. Her approach blends science with self-awareness, encouraging people to trust themselves, stay present, and focus on the “next step” rather than trying to control the entire outcome. Ultimately, Bron’s message is about resilience, presence, and self-trust. She believes resilience can be learned over time and reminds others to “be where your feet are”—coming back to the present moment, especially during fear or uncertainty. Nancy Sturdevant | A Mother’s Determination, A Son’s Strength

In this episode of The Cancer Liberation Project, I sit down with Nancy Studervant, a mother whose life shifted dramatically when her 18-year-old son was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma shortly after climbing Mount Rainier. What began as knee pain was initially misdiagnosed, leading to a delayed cancer diagnosis and the start of a long, complex journey. Nancy shares the emotional weight of that moment and the critical decisions that followed, including aggressive chemotherapy, surgery, and navigating the pressure to act quickly within the conventional medical system. As her son experienced relapse, Nancy began expanding beyond standard treatment, building a diverse team of specialists and exploring integrative and metabolic approaches. Guided by intuition and faith, she embraced a multi-layered strategy—combining targeted therapies, off-label medications, nutrition, and lifestyle practices like exercise and time in nature. She emphasizes the importance of staying proactive, always having a “plan B and C,” and being willing to question recommendations in pursuit of the best outcome. Despite numerous setbacks, including multiple relapses and complications from surgery, Nancy’s son continues to thrive—living an active life, attending college, and maintaining a strong sense of independence. Nancy highlights the role of mindset, resilience, and daily habits like whole-food nutrition, movement, and recovery practices in supporting his health. This conversation is a powerful testament to a mother’s determination, the importance of advocacy, and the belief that even in the face of uncertainty, there is always hope—and always another path to explore. Dr. Jason Miller | Integrating Chinese Medicine in Cancer Care

Dr. Miller is a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, medical educator, lecturer, writer, formulator, and musician. In 2005, he graduated from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine's, "Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine" program, and then in 2018 completed his "Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine" degree at the Pacific College of Health and Science. Post-graduation from OCOM in 2005 he spent 2 months in Nanjing, China where he completed a clinical internship at Nanjing’s acclaimed, “House of Celebrity Doctors.”  For the past 20 years, Dr Miller has devoted a large part of his time and energy to working closely with patients with cancer and chronic disease, often working collaboratively with his patients and their medical teams. He has worked with the Mederi Foundation for the past 18 years and he currently serves as Head of Faculty and Content Development for the Mederi Academy. In this episode, Dr. Jason Miller shares his journey from conventional pre-med studies into Chinese medicine, driven by a desire to understand health beyond a purely reductionist, scientific lens. He explains how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views the body as an interconnected system of energy, balance, and patterns, rather than isolated parts. Using principles like yin and yang, heat and cold, and excess versus deficiency, practitioners assess imbalances and work to restore harmony through tools like acupuncture, herbal medicine, and lifestyle changes—often integrating modern diagnostics like imaging and genomics to create a more comprehensive approach. The conversation explores how this integrative model can support individuals facing cancer by addressing not just the disease itself, but the body’s internal environment. Dr. Miller discusses concepts like blood stagnation, oxygenation, and the tumor microenvironment, highlighting how certain herbs and natural compounds may help improve circulation, reduce side effects, and enhance treatment outcomes when used alongside conventional therapies. He also emphasizes the importance of individualized care, weighing the “cost of cure” versus long-term disease management, and encouraging patients to take time to gather information and make aligned decisions. Beyond physical treatments, a major focus is placed on the role of emotional, mental, and spiritual health in healing. Chronic stress, unresolved emotions, and disconnection from one’s authentic self can disrupt the body’s balance and weaken resilience. Dr. Miller encourages patients to cultivate calm, stay present in their bodies, and engage in activities that bring joy and a sense of flow. Ultimately, healing is framed as a multidimensional process—one that integrates medical care with lifestyle, mindset, and a deeper connection to self. Dr. Nathan Goodyear | A New Approach to Cancer

Dr. Goodyear is a Board-Certified OB/GYN and a leading expert in integrative oncology with nearly two decades of experience blending conventional and holistic cancer therapies. He has served as medical director for multiple integrative cancer clinics, authored three books—including Breaking the Cancer Code—and is a sought-after speaker and podcaster on innovative treatments like high-dose IV vitamin C, Precision Therapy Stacking, and Low-Dose Metronomic Chemotherapy. Dr. Goodyear is dedicated to empowering both patients and physicians through education, advocacy, and cutting-edge care. This conversation explores Dr. Nathan Goodyear’s journey from a conventional OB/GYN background into integrative oncology, shaped by both professional curiosity and personal experience. Early in his career, he began questioning the “one-size-fits-all” approach of traditional medicine after recognizing that many patients were not fully helped by standard protocols. Influenced by a compounding pharmacist and a growing interest in personalized care, he gradually incorporated integrative therapies into his practice. His path deepened after facing his own life-threatening adrenal tumor, an experience that reshaped his perspective as both a physician and a patient, ultimately leading him to fully dedicate his work to integrative cancer care. Dr. Goodyear shares an optimistic and forward-looking vision for the future of cancer treatment, emphasizing therapies that engage and train the immune system rather than suppress it. He discusses emerging innovations such as intratumoral therapies that directly target tumors while activating immune responses, as well as the growing importance of the gut microbiome in both treatment and prevention. According to Dr. Goodyear, the microbiome plays a foundational role in immune health, with factors like diet, birth method, antibiotics, and lifestyle contributing to long-term cancer risk. He believes that future breakthroughs will come not only from advanced treatments but also from early intervention strategies that address these underlying drivers before disease develops. The episode also highlights the importance of personalized, data-driven care. Dr. Goodyear explains how advanced testing—ranging from tumor genetics to immune signaling and inflammatory markers—can guide treatment decisions and help monitor progress. This approach allows clinicians to better understand the tumor environment, restore immune communication, and adapt therapies in real time. He emphasizes that even simple lab markers, when interpreted correctly, can provide meaningful insight into a patient’s response and prognosis. A key theme throughout the conversation is the need to bridge the gap between conventional and integrative medicine. Dr. Goodyear advocates for collaboration rather than division, noting that patients are often left navigating conflicting information on their own. By fostering open communication, focusing on evidence, and prioritizing patient-centered care, he believes the medical community can rebuild trust and improve outcomes. He also underscores the importance of offering patients hope—grounded not in false promises, but in expanding possibilities and evolving science. Additional topics include the role of supportive therapies such as high-dose IV vitamin C and medical cannabis. Dr. Goodyear explains how vitamin C can function differently depending on dosage—supporting the immune system at lower doses and acting as a pro-oxidative, cancer-targeting therapy at higher doses. He also discusses the use of cannabinoids, particularly CBD, as a tool for managing cancer-related pain while minimizing immune suppression associated with traditional pain medications. Throughout, he stresses the importance of ongoing research, transparency, and responsible clinical application. Ultimately, this episode centers on a paradigm shift in cancer care—one that moves from reactive treatment to proactive, individualized healing. By combining innovative therapies, microbiome science, and a commitment to collaboration, Dr. Goodyear offers a hopeful perspective on where cancer care is headed and how both patients and practitioners can play a role in shaping its future. Dr. Adrian is a naturopathic physician specializing in integrative cancer care and chronic conditions. She holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry, is a graduate of Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, and is an active member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Education remains one of her greatest passions, leading her to  serve as residency director for one of North America’s only naturopathic complex chronic disease and oncology-focused residencies. During our conversation, Dr. Adrian shares how her early fascination with whole-person medicine led her to naturopathic oncology, where she focuses on bridging the gap between conventional treatments and supportive therapies that help patients thrive during and after diagnosis. Her work emphasizes treating both the tumor and the overall health of the person, recognizing the role of metabolism, inflammation, and the tumor microenvironment in outcomes. We discuss how integrative care can reduce treatment side effects and improve resilience through personalized strategies like movement, nutrition, targeted nutrients, and lifestyle interventions. Dr. Adrian explains the importance of evidence-informed support that does not interfere with conventional therapies, and how collaboration between providers is gradually improving as patient awareness grows. She also highlights practical tools—such as exercise, detox support, and red light therapy—that can aid recovery, energy production, and inflammation regulation when used appropriately. The conversation also explores environmental toxin exposure, personalized lab assessments, and the emerging role of off-label medications and molecular pathway testing in precision oncology. Dr. Adriene’s core message is that cancer care should never be a DIY journey; patients benefit most from a knowledgeable, regulated practitioner who can tailor an integrative plan to their unique physiology, helping them move from simply surviving treatment to truly thriving beyond it. Dr. Andre Williams | Personalized Path to Cancer Healing

Dr. Williams is a medical doctor originally trained in oncology who now practices integrative, holistic cancer care. His work blends the best of conventional medicine with biologically grounded therapies that support the body’s own regulatory and healing systems. Through his clinical practice and educational platforms, Dr. Williams helps patients cut through overwhelm, understand their options, and make confident, personalized decisions about their care. He is known for his patient-centered approach, his clarity in simplifying complex cancer concepts, and his commitment to empowering individuals on their recovery and prevention journey. During our conversation, Dr. Williams shares his journey from conventional oncology to an integrative approach after seeing that many patients were unwilling or unable to continue standard treatments. He now blends conventional care with nutrition, detoxification, and other biologically grounded therapies to support the body’s natural regulatory and healing systems, often seeing improved quality of life and better outcomes. He outlines a four-part framework for cancer care: addressing tumors directly, rebuilding the body through individualized nutrition, supporting detox pathways, and working through emotional and spiritual factors that can influence healing. He emphasizes that cancer is multifactorial and that there is no universal diet or protocol—care must be tailored to each person’s metabolic type, nervous system patterns, and overall physiology. A key theme of the conversation is the importance of emotional healing. Dr. Williams explains that unresolved trauma, chronic stress, and beliefs about self-worth can affect recovery, which is why he integrates counseling and emotional support into his care model. Ultimately, his goal is to help patients feel informed, less overwhelmed, and empowered to make confident, personalized decisions about their cancer journey.
