So, I’m just 16 and recently I went to England for the first time. On our way home at the Heathrow airport, I was putting my stuff in the security bin and was waiting for it to go to the X-ray when I remembered that my phone was in my pocket. I got it out and put it in. The security guy working right there looked at me and said “Oh? So where did that come from.” That isn’t that bad. However, then he turned to my grandma and said “kids are so attached to their phones now days aren’t they. They just can’t off be their phones now days. They’re always trying to sneak things and are terrible!”
Like dude, I’m right here and you’re insinuating that I can’t be apart from my phone for one second? They have a thing after security with 5 emotion buttons to rate your experience in security and when I hit the middle button for it was ok, my grandma berated me for being to sensitive and that it was rude for me to do that. I didn’t think so. I think I should add context that I’m not addicted to my phone like others. I love books and the history of both world wars. I can’t do much on my phone anyways since my mom has added Parental controls that completely remove the AppStore and safari. I can’t even access some apps on a basic phone. I’m lucky to even have podcasts. I’m told it’s purely for communication and nothing else. I much prefer listening to music and reading and riding my bike compared to being on my phone all day. Honestly, I don’t think I overreacted on this situation, but maybe I did a little bit. I just thought that it was rude that he looked at me with a disgust look and flat out told my grandma, who was right next to me that some kids just are so terrible with their phones. Completely ignoring my existence. Oh, I forgot to mention, when they checked my bag, they called him over to look at things. When he pulled out my kindle and Nintendo, he rolled his eyes and looked at me with a very annoyed and disgusted look and acted like the two objects were covered in some terrible substance. When he was done he sent it through again and had someone check it again. He then had it sent through a third time as well. He then checked it again. Gave me the same look again and then finally rolled his eyes and pushed my bag towards me. Then I finally got to leave. Anyways, I know this is a review section so this is out of place. I just want to say, I love this podcast so much and I needed to get that experience off my chest and this just seemed like a decent place to do so.
