Day Trips in the Fall: Big Benefits from Small Escapes to save money and reenergize

Sometimes, all you need is a tank of gas, a free Saturday, and a willingness to take the road you don't normally take. In this episode of **The Year of Profit**, Joe Shortridge explores the surprisingly powerful benefits of taking **small escapes**, especially during one of the most beautiful seasons of the year: fall. As the leaves begin to change, the temperatures cool down, and communities come alive with festivals, farmers' markets, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, historic tours, and seasonal events, fall creates the perfect opportunity to step away from your normal routine and experience something different. And here's the important part: **you don't have to travel far or spend a lot of money to create a meaningful experience.** We often associate travel with expensive hotels, airline tickets, elaborate vacations, and weeks of planning. But a day trip can provide many of the same emotional benefits without putting a major dent in your budget. A short drive to a nearby town can become an adventure. A scenic drive can give you time to think. A visit to a local historical site can teach you something new. A walk through a park can clear your head. A meal at a restaurant you've never tried can become a memory. The destination doesn't always have to be extraordinary. Sometimes it's the experience of **getting out of your routine** that makes the difference. In this episode, Joe talks about how changing your surroundings can help interrupt the mental patterns that come from doing the same things day after day. When life becomes repetitive, it's easy to operate on autopilot. A small escape forces us to slow down, pay attention, and experience the world around us again. Day trips can also be powerful for relationships.   Think about the memories you share with the people closest to you. Chances are, you don't remember every ordinary night sitting on the couch. You remember the adventures. The unexpected discoveries. The funny things that happened. The places you found together. Experiences create stories, and stories create memories. Joe also looks at the financial side of taking a break. Living a financially responsible life doesn't mean you can never enjoy yourself. In fact, learning to enjoy life without overspending is an important part of financial wellness. You don't need to put a vacation on a credit card to have an adventure. Pack a lunch. Bring some snacks. Find free attractions. Explore local parks. Visit a small town. Take a scenic drive. Set aside a modest "adventure fund" and use it intentionally. The goal isn't to spend more. The goal is to **experience more with what you already have.** The episode also explores the importance of not waiting for the "perfect time." There will always be another bill, another responsibility, another project, and another reason to postpone enjoying life. Your life is happening now. That doesn't mean ignoring your responsibilities. It means understanding that rest, fun, exploration, and meaningful experiences are also part of a successful life. So this fall, Joe challenges listeners to take a day trip. Choose a destination—or simply choose a direction. Take the scenic route. Visit somewhere you've never been. Try something new. Bring someone you care about, or enjoy the adventure by yourself. Put down the phone for a while and pay attention to the world around you. Because sometimes you don't need a week-long vacation. You don't need a plane ticket. You don't need thousands of dollars. Sometimes you just need one day to step outside your routine and remember that there is a big world waiting just beyond it. **Small escapes can create big benefits.** They can refresh your mind, strengthen your relationships, spark creativity, reduce stress, create memories, and remind you that success isn't simply about how hard you work. It's also about knowing when to stop, breathe, and enjoy the life you're working so hard to build. So grab your keys, find a road you've never explored, and make this fall a season you'll remember. **The adventure might be closer than you think.** The Year of Profit podcast, hosted by Joe Shortridge, is your go-to resource for transforming every aspect of your life. Fail Fast Forward: 5 Steps to Your Future and your wealth

In this episode of The Year of Profit, we take a completely different look at failure. Most of us were taught from an early age that failure is something to avoid. We associate failure with embarrassment, disappointment, lost money, rejection, and sometimes even shame. But what if the people who achieve the most aren't necessarily the people who fail the least? What if they are simply better at failing, learning, adapting, and moving forward? The concept of "Fail Fast Forward" is about changing your relationship with failure. Instead of allowing one mistake or setback to define you, you use it as information. You learn what didn't work, make adjustments, and get back into action. In this episode, we break that process down into five powerful steps to your future. First, we talk about stopping the habit of calling yourself a failure. There is a huge difference between saying, "I failed at something," and saying, "I am a failure." One describes an event. The other creates an identity. Your mistakes are things that happened to you or decisions you made—they don't have to become the definition of who you are. Second, we discuss the importance of performing a failure autopsy. Instead of ignoring your mistakes or obsessing over them, examine them honestly. What happened? What was under your control? What did you learn? What will you do differently next time? The goal isn't to live in the past. It's to take the lesson and move forward. Third, we explore the power of making small bets. You don't always have to risk everything to discover whether an idea will work. Test things. Experiment. Start small. Get feedback. Whether you're starting a business, writing a book, changing careers, improving your finances, or pursuing a personal goal, smaller experiments can help you learn faster while reducing the cost of being wrong. Fourth, we look at setting a deadline for recovery. Failure can hurt, and you're allowed to be disappointed. But you can't allow disappointment to become a permanent place to live. At some point, reflection needs to turn into action. You have to decide when you're going to get back up and take the next step. Finally, we talk about creating a future bigger than your failure. Your past deserves your attention long enough to learn from it—but your future deserves even more attention. The rearview mirror can show you where you've been, but you can't drive forward while staring backward. This episode is ultimately about resilience, personal growth, money, success, and taking action. You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin. You don't need a guarantee that you'll succeed. You need the willingness to learn, adapt, and continue. Your future doesn't require a perfect past. It requires movement. So if you've been afraid to try something because you're worried about failing, this episode is your reminder that failure doesn't have to stop you. Fail fast. Learn faster. Move forward. Your next chapter could be waiting on the other side of the mistake you're currently afraid to make. And remember: One failure is an event. It does not have to become your identity. Success Is Hard, But Here Are the Steps to Make It Easier and biuld Wealth

Set a goal, work hard, stay focused, and eventually you get there. But anyone who has seriously tried to change their life knows the truth: **success can be hard.** Whether your goal is financial freedom, building a business, improving your health, paying off debt, becoming more confident, or simply creating a better life, there will be obstacles along the way. There will be days when motivation disappears, plans don't work, and quitting seems much easier than continuing. But what if success doesn't have to be quite as difficult as we make it? In this episode of **The Year of Profit**, we take a practical look at how to make the journey toward success easier, more manageable, and more sustainable. The first step is defining what success actually means to you. Too many people chase someone else's definition of success without ever asking what they really want. More money, a bigger house, a successful business, or a particular lifestyle may look impressive, but true success starts with knowing what matters to **you**. We also talk about why trying to change everything at once can actually keep you from changing anything. Instead of attempting a complete life transformation overnight, focus on one important improvement at a time. Small actions repeated consistently can eventually produce enormous results. Another important lesson is learning to make the right choices easier. Your environment matters. If you want to save money, make saving automatic. If you want to exercise, prepare ahead of time. If you want to write, create a dedicated time and place for it. The easier you make good habits, the more likely you are to repeat them. And then there's motivation Motivation feels great when you have it, but it isn't always dependable. Successful people don't wake up every morning excited to do everything they need to do. They develop discipline, routines, and habits that keep them moving even when motivation disappears. We also explore the importance of breaking enormous goals into small, manageable steps. Sometimes the size of a goal can intimidate us so much that we never begin. Instead of worrying about the entire journey, focus on the next step. Success is also about learning to appreciate **boring consistency**. Real progress isn't always exciting. Saving money, making smart decisions, exercising, learning, practicing, and showing up repeatedly may not create dramatic results overnight. But over time, consistency can change your life. We'll also talk about failure, comparison, energy management, tracking progress, finding supportive people, and why you shouldn't wait for the perfect plan before taking action. Most importantly, this episode is about becoming the person who keeps going. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to have everything figured out. You don't have to completely transform your life tomorrow. You simply have to take the next step. Then another. Then another. Success may always require effort, but you can make the journey easier by making it simpler, clearer, and more consistent. So if you've been feeling overwhelmed by your goals or wondering why success seems so difficult, this episode is for you. **Stop trying to do everything at once. Stop waiting for perfect conditions. Stop comparing your journey to everyone else's.** Define your destination. Take the next step. Keep your promises to yourself. And keep moving forward. Because sometimes the difference between where you are and where you want to be isn't one giant breakthrough. **It's simply the decision to keep taking the next step.** Welcome to another episode of **The Year of Profit**.   Hosted by Joe Shortridge, The Year of Profit podcast is your ultimate destination for personal development, financial growth, and high-performance living. What would it feel like to know that the house you live in is completely paid for? On this episode of **The Year of Profit**, Joe Shortridge gets personal and shares his own journey through **Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps**—a journey that ultimately led to one of the biggest financial accomplishments of his life: **paying off his house**. This episode isn't about pretending that getting out of debt is easy. It isn't. It takes discipline, sacrifice, patience, and a willingness to change the way you think about money. But Joe's story proves something incredibly important: **financial freedom is possible.** Joe walks listeners through the principles behind the Baby Steps and explains how following a proven plan can help you take control of your money instead of allowing money to control you.   The journey starts with getting serious about your financial situation. That means knowing where your money is going, creating a plan, eliminating unnecessary spending, and making debt reduction a priority. Along the way, there are going to be setbacks, temptations, unexpected expenses, and plenty of moments when you wonder if it is really worth it. Joe knows those moments firsthand. But every payment matters. Every sacrifice matters. Every dollar you choose not to spend can move you closer to freedom. One of the biggest milestones in Joe's journey was becoming **100% debt free—including his house**. Paying off a mortgage isn't something that happens overnight. It takes years of consistent effort and the willingness to keep going even when the finish line seems far away. And that is one of the biggest lessons Joe wants listeners to take away from this episode. **You don't have to become financially free all at once. You just have to start.** Maybe your first goal is saving your first $1,000 emergency fund. Maybe you need to pay off a credit card. Maybe you have student loans, car payments, medical bills, or a mortgage that seems overwhelming. Whatever your situation, you can begin making progress today. Joe also talks about the mental side of becoming debt free. Paying off debt isn't just about numbers on a spreadsheet. It changes your mindset. It teaches you patience. It teaches you discipline. It teaches you to delay gratification and start thinking about your future instead of constantly spending money on the present. most importantly, Joe shares his story because he wants listeners to understand that **you don't have to be wealthy to build wealth**. You have to make a decision. You have to create a plan. And then you have to keep moving forward. The Baby Steps gave Joe a roadmap, but he still had to walk the road. Now, he wants to encourage you to walk yours. If Joe can work his way through the Baby Steps and pay off his house, **you can make progress too**. Your journey may look different. Your timeline may be different. Your income and circumstances may be different. But the goal remains the same: take control of your money, eliminate debt, build wealth, and create a future where your money gives you choices instead of limitations.   This episode of **The Year of Profit** is a reminder that financial freedom isn't just something that happens to other people. **It can happen to you.** Start where you are. Take the first step. Keep going. Your debt-free future may be closer than you think. The Year of Profit podcast, hosted by Joe Shortridge, is your go-to resource for transforming every aspect of your life. Negotiating With Yourself – Strategies for Overcoming Internal Resistance

You make promises about what you're going to do, and then, somewhere along the way, your mind starts looking for a reason to change the deal. You tell yourself you'll exercise tomorrow. You'll save money next month. You'll start the business when you have more time. You'll finally pursue the dream when life settles down. But life rarely settles down. In this episode of **Year of Profit**, we explore one of the biggest obstacles standing between you and the life you want: **internal resistance**. Internal resistance is that voice inside your head that tells you to stay comfortable, avoid risk, delay action, and protect yourself from failure. It often sounds reasonable. It tells you that you're being practical when, in reality, you may simply be afraid to take the next step. We examine why the human mind naturally resists change and why comfort can become a trap. Your brain is designed to protect you from uncertainty, but the same instinct that keeps you safe can also keep you stuck. One of the most important lessons in this episode is learning to recognize the difference between **a suggestion and a decision**. When you say, "I'll exercise if I feel like it," you're making a suggestion. When you say, "I exercise because that's who I am," you've made a decision That difference matters. We also discuss the importance of keeping promises to yourself. Every time you follow through on a commitment, you build evidence that you can trust yourself. Every time you break a promise to yourself, you reinforce the belief that you don't follow through. The episode introduces practical strategies for overcoming resistance, including the **Five-Minute Rule**. Instead of demanding that you completely transform your life overnight, commit to taking action for just five minutes. Five minutes of exercise. Five minutes of writing. Five minutes of working on your business. Five minutes of organizing your finances. The goal isn't perfection. The goal is movement.   We also look at the questions you ask yourself. Your mind will search for answers to whatever questions you give it. Ask, "Why can't I succeed?" and you'll find reasons. Ask, "How can I make this happen?" and your brain begins searching for possibilities. Another powerful strategy is understanding the **cost of inaction**. What happens if you don't change? What does your life look like five years from now if you continue doing exactly what you're doing today? What opportunities might you miss? What dreams might remain unfinished? Sometimes the motivation to change comes not from imagining what you could gain, but from recognizing what staying the same could cost you. We also explore the importance of creating **non-negotiables**. When you establish clear standards for yourself, you eliminate countless daily decisions and reduce the opportunity to talk yourself out of what matters. Ultimately, success isn't about eliminating fear or discomfort. It's about becoming the person who can move forward despite them. Every difficult action you take creates evidence. Every workout, every dollar saved, every difficult conversation, every risk taken, and every promise kept tells your brain: **"I can count on myself."** That's how confidence is built. Your future isn't determined by the excuses you make today. It's determined by the decisions you make when your mind gives you every reason to quit. The next time you hear that voice telling you to wait, remember: **Don't negotiate away your dreams. Negotiate for your future.** Tune in to this powerful episode of *Year of Profit* and learn how to stop making deals with your excuses—and start making commitments to the person you want to become. The Person You Become Determines the Money You Make

It isn't. Your value as a person has nothing to do with your bank account. Instead, this episode focuses on the characteristics, habits, skills, discipline, mindset, and behaviors that can influence your ability to create and manage financial success. Most people ask, **"How can I make more money?"** Joe challenges you to ask a better question: **"Who do I need to become to make more money?"* That shift changes everything. Money generally follows value. The more problems you can solve, the more skills you develop, and the more value you can provide, the more opportunities you may create for yourself. Whether you're an employee, entrepreneur, salesperson, investor, or business owner, becoming more valuable can increase your earning potential But earning more money is only part of the equation. Joe also explores why someone can receive a raise and still remain financially stressed. Lifestyle inflation, emotional spending, poor financial habits, and a lack of discipline can prevent increased income from becoming increased wealth You don't simply need more money. **You need to become the person who knows what to do with more money.* The episode dives into the importance of developing a strong financial identity. Instead of saying, "I'm trying to save money," start thinking, **"I'm a person who saves money."** Instead of saying, "I'm trying to become successful," begin becoming the person who takes responsibility, follows through, learns, adapts, and keeps moving forward. Joe discusses why your habits matter, why discipline often beats motivation, why becoming a lifelong learner can increase your value, and why learning to solve problems can become one of your greatest financial advantages. You'll also hear about the importance of taking responsibility for what you can control. You may not control the economy, your employer, your past, or every circumstance in your life—but you can control what you learn, how you respond, the skills you develop, the decisions you make, and the actions you take next. The episode also challenges listeners to examine their environment. The people you spend time with, the information you consume, and the conversations you have about money can influence the way you think and behave. Becoming financially stronger often requires becoming more intentional about the influences surrounding you. Joe then introduces a **seven-day "Become the Person" challenge**, designed to turn the ideas from the episode into action. You'll be challenged to examine your finances, identify your biggest financial weakness, choose a valuable skill to develop, eliminate a financial leak, do something uncomfortable, define your future self, and make a commitment to take responsibility for what happens next.   Perhaps the most important message of the episode is that **you don't have to change your entire life overnight.** You can start with one decision. One habit. One skill. One action. One day at a time. Your past doesn't have to determine your future. Your current financial situation is information—not necessarily a permanent destination. If you want a different financial future, don't just focus on changing your bank account. **Change yourself.** Become more disciplined. Become more knowledgeable. Become more valuable. Become more courageous. Become more patient. Become a better problem solver. Become someone who finishes what they start. Become someone who keeps promises to themselves. Because the greatest investment you may ever make isn't a stock, business, piece of real estate, or bank account. **It's you.** Your future is being built by the person you are becoming today. So the question isn't simply, **"How much money do I want?"** The real question is: ### **"Who do I need to become?"* This is **The Year of Profit**. Now it's time to become the person your future requires. In this episode of Year of Profit, Joe explores the fascinating world of float therapy and the surprising power of stepping away from the noise of everyday life. In a world filled with smartphones, notifications, social media, work, responsibilities, and constant stimulation, many of us rarely experience true quiet. Float therapy offers an opportunity to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with ourselves. Joe begins by sharing his own personal experience with float therapy before exploring what happens when we enter an environment designed to dramatically reduce external stimulation. Float tanks, also known as sensory deprivation tanks or REST tanks, use highly concentrated Epsom salt water to create a buoyant environment where the body can float effortlessly. The water is typically maintained close to skin temperature, helping create an environment where the sensation of gravity, sound, and light can be significantly reduced. The episode takes a fascinating journey through the history of the float tank, beginning with the pioneering work of physician and neuroscientist Dr. John C. Lilly. In the 1950s, Lilly developed an isolation tank while researching the effects of sensory reduction on the human brain. His work helped establish the foundation for what would eventually become known as Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique, or R.E.S.T. Joe also explores the intriguing historical connection between float tanks, altered states of consciousness, and the psychedelic movement. Figures such as John C. Lilly and Timothy Leary became associated with the exploration of consciousness, helping contribute to the float tank's reputation as a tool for deep introspection and inner exploration. While modern float therapy is primarily focused on wellness, relaxation, meditation, and stress management, the historical connection provides a fascinating look at humanity's ongoing curiosity about the mind. The conversation then turns to the potential mental benefits of floating. By reducing distractions and external stimulation, float therapy may provide an environment conducive to relaxation, mindfulness, reflection, and stress reduction. Joe discusses how floating may help people step away from the constant demands of modern life and create valuable space to simply think, breathe, and be present. The physical side of floating is also explored. The buoyancy of the salt water can reduce the sensation of weight and allow muscles and joints to relax. Joe discusses why float therapy has attracted interest from athletes and performance-minded individuals looking for ways to support recovery, relaxation, visualization, mental focus, and overall well-being. But this episode goes beyond float tanks. At the heart of this conversation is a powerful lesson about success and personal growth. Joe challenges the idea that productivity always means doing more. Sometimes, the smartest thing you can do is rest. Sometimes, you need to step away from the noise before you can clearly see your next move. Sometimes, you need to stop trying to solve every problem and simply give your mind the space to reset. In this episode, you'll discover why creating moments of quiet may be one of the most overlooked tools for personal growth, why recovery is an important part of success, and how learning to slow down can help you reconnect with the person you want to become. Whether you've experienced a float tank or you've never considered trying one, this episode will encourage you to find your own version of a "float tank"—a place or practice where you can disconnect from the noise and reconnect with yourself. Healing with Sound – Can Music and Frequencies Improve Your Well-Being

From ancient healing traditions to modern scientific research, we examine how music, vibration, and sound frequencies can influence our emotions, reduce stress, improve focus, and promote overall well-being.   For thousands of years, cultures around the world have used drums, chanting, singing bowls, gongs, flutes, and sacred music as part of healing rituals and spiritual practices. While these traditions were once viewed primarily through a cultural or spiritual lens, modern researchers are now studying how sound affects the brain, nervous system, and body. Although sound should not be viewed as a replacement for medical care, there is growing evidence that it can be a valuable complementary tool for relaxation, stress management, and emotional health.   During this episode, we discuss how the human brain responds to music and why certain songs instantly trigger memories and emotions. You'll learn about the connection between sound and the nervous system, including how calming music may help reduce cortisol—the body's primary stress hormone—while encouraging relaxation and emotional balance.   We also explore the concept of vibration and frequency. Everything around us exists in motion, including the electrical activity inside our brains. You'll hear about different brainwave states such as alpha, beta, theta, delta, and gamma waves, and how researchers continue to study their relationship to relaxation, focus, meditation, and sleep. We also introduce binaural beats, an audio technique that presents slightly different tones to each ear to create the perception of another frequency. While research is still evolving, many people report that binaural beats help them unwind, improve concentration, or prepare for restful sleep.   Another topic covered is music therapy, a well-established healthcare profession used in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and mental health settings. Certified music therapists work with patients facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain, dementia, trauma, and serious illness. We discuss how music therapy differs from simply listening to music and why personalized musical experiences can have such a meaningful emotional impact.   Throughout the episode, you'll also hear practical ideas for creating your own sound-based wellness routine. Whether it's listening to instrumental music while working, nature sounds before bed, peaceful background music during meditation or prayer, or simply taking a few minutes each day to sit in silence, small intentional habits can help create moments of calm in an increasingly noisy world.   One of the most inspiring themes of this conversation is that healing doesn't always come from dramatic life changes. Sometimes it begins with something as simple as pressing play on a favorite song, spending a few quiet moments listening to the sounds of nature, or allowing music to help process difficult emotions. Sound has the unique ability to comfort us, motivate us, connect us with cherished memories, and remind us that we are never truly alone in our experiences.   If you've ever wondered why certain songs lift your mood, why music can bring tears to your eyes, or why relaxing sounds help you sleep more peacefully, this episode offers both scientific insight and practical inspiration. You'll leave with a deeper appreciation for the role sound plays in everyday life and several easy strategies you can begin using immediately to support your mental and emotional well-being.   Thank you for listening to **Year of Profit**. A profitable life also includes peace of mind, emotional resilience, strong relationships, and good health. Sometimes the path toward that life begins with something as simple—and as powerful—as sound.
