The Sandbox is a virtual gaming world where players can build, own, and monetize their gaming experiences. Originally released in 2011, The Sandbox has grown through many iterations of game design, but in 2018, the team decided to bring the massive UGC (user generated content) game to the blockchain. 2.3 — Blockchain Brawlers

Blockchain Brawlers is a play-to-earn game where users can earn real money, just by getting into the digital ring and fighting an opponent. It’s built on the WAX blockchain and the premise is very simple. Purchase a Brawler, equip it with some Gear, step into the Ring, and duke it out. Rewards come in the form of digital tokens, which holders can exchange for fiat currency. As things stand, gameplay is very limited. Contests end the moment you click a button, and the result appears on the screen. The outcome of a fight depends on the rarity of your Brawler: the rarer, the more chance you have of winning. In this podcast episode, we interview Michael Rubinelli, Chief Gaming Officer at WAX Studios. Michael is a legendary figure in the gaming industry with more than 25 years of experience in executive leadership, product creation, and ongoing revenue growth in top firms like Electronic Arts, Disney, THQ, and others. As the head of WAX Studios, the official game studio of WAX Blockchain that recently released its debut title, "Blockchain Brawlers," Michael Rubinelli has transitioned from the traditional gaming industry to the blockchain gaming space. We take a deep dive into the wax studio games, his thoughts on web3 gaming and how to onboard more gamers into the space.
