    242. Bob's Not Leavin'! One weekend. Two terrible outdoorsmen. And enough ridiculous stories to fill an entire episode! Ryan and Bob are back up at deer camp, getting ready for the upcoming Michigan deer season with some early-season prep work, scouting, and a whole lot of terrible luck. What was supposed to be a simple weekend in the woods quickly turned into another classic Terrible Outdoorsman adventure. From scouting mishaps to unexpected encounters, the boys somehow managed to pack an unbelievable amount of chaos into one short trip. But the real highlight?     240. Opening Day & We’re Not Hunting

    It’s October 1st, opening day of Michigan archery deer season… so naturally Ryan and Captain JG are sitting behind microphones instead of sitting in a tree. The guys kick things off talking about bear hunting in the U.P., upcoming western hunts, and just how complicated chasing elk and mule deer out west can get. Then it’s all whitetails. Ryan breaks down his trail camera setup, why he switched everything over to Moultrie, and what he’s seeing on the property heading into the season. Jason admits he’s completely prepared for bow season—as long as you ignore the fact that he hasn’t shot his bow, put out his cameras, or even bought his license yet. Then comes the question every deer hunter eventually wrestles with: Do you shoot a good buck, or let him walk and hope something bigger shows up? Ryan has several solid bucks on camera but is considering filling the freezer with does while waiting for the mysterious “Strauss”—the giant buck that seems to show up every year just long enough to ruin your sleep. They also talk early-season heat, handling venison in warm weather, bow-hunting goals, ground shrinkage, cell cameras, and what they actually want out of the 2026 deer season. Opening day is here.     236. Chad Stewart: New Regulations & the Future of Hunting

    Chad Stewart from the Michigan DNR is back on the Terrible Outdoorsman Podcast—and after 99 episodes away, there’s plenty to talk about.
