We shoot to be a informative but most importantly entertaining. We are red blooded Americans and talk about flying that flag proud.     238. Two Weeks Until Bow Season

    Bow season is only two weeks away, and Ryan and Bob are finally starting to get fired up! The guys break down their last-minute preparations, including checking tree-stand straps, shooting their bows, washing hunting clothes, scouting food sources and figuring out where the deer should be moving on opening day.     236. Chad Stewart: New Regulations & the Future of Hunting

    Chad Stewart from the Michigan DNR is back on the Terrible Outdoorsman Podcast—and after 99 episodes away, there’s plenty to talk about. Ryan and Bob sit down with Chad, Michigan DNR Cervid Supervisor covering deer, elk, and moose, for an in-depth conversation about the current state of Michigan’s whitetail herd, why deer management looks completely different depending on where you hunt, and some of the biggest regulation changes Michigan hunters have seen in years.     235. It Smells Like Hunting Season Captain JG is back, and you can feel it—the days are getting shorter, fall is getting closer, and it smells like hunting season. Before we completely shift into deer mode, the guys catch up on summer fishing. Jason recaps a Fourth of July bass trip where seemingly every lure he tied on worked, plus the family salmon trip to Ludington that brought fish, fog, rough water, and a couple of seasick passengers. Ryan also talks about some ridiculous summertime night fishing where catching 20 bass somehow qualifies as a slow night. Then the conversation turns toward fall. The guys talk about the best days of the rut, Halloween hunting traditions, deer camp, opening day, and Jason's difficult decision to potentially sacrifice one of the best hunting weekends of the year for a trip with his wife. That's true love right there. They also dive into thermal drones for deer recovery, tracking dogs, blood trails, and that awful moment after the shot when you're absolutely convinced: “I definitely hit him.” Finally, they call out some of the classic lies every outdoorsman has heard—or told. “That fish was at least 28 inches.” “That deer was 80 yards away.” “That buck was definitely 150.” “I definitely hit him.” Sure it was. 😂 Plus, muskie plans, hunting stories, daylight saving time, and plenty of terrible opinions as we officially start counting down the days until deer season.     233. Stop Overthinking Hunting

    With Ryan off camping, the inmates are officially running the asylum. Bobtastic and Captain JG take over Episode 233 for a leaderless edition of The Terrible Outdoorsman—and somehow they actually manage to talk about the outdoors. With hunting season creeping closer, the guys talk Halloween hunts, Michigan bowhunting, tree stands vs. saddles, hunting the U.P., and whether hunters have completely overcomplicated something humans have been doing for thousands of years. Do we really need another app, another piece of gear, perfect scent control and a $1,000 outfit just to go sit in the woods? That leads into trophy culture, social-media deer judges, trail cameras, expensive gear and why the first question after someone shoots a buck shouldn't always be, "How big is it?" Somewhere along the way, hunters also get compared to highly organized deer assassins. Dan even drops in from the hospital for a few minutes with an update on his family—and, naturally, a massive burrito—before Bob and JG get back to solving all of hunting's problems. But underneath all the terrible advice is a pretty simple message heading into hunting season: slow down and enjoy it. Hunt the deer you want to hunt. Fish when you want to fish. Sleep in at camp once in a while. Sit around the fire. Make memories. Stop worrying about whether you're doing everything "right." Sometimes just being there is the win. Get outdoors, keep it simple, and don't be terrible. We shoot to be a informative but most importantly entertaining. We are red blooded Americans and talk about flying that flag proud.
