Macro Social Work Resume Mistakes You're Making (And How to Fix Them)

Ready to learn more about macro social work careers? Grab my free e-course at: https://macroandpaid.com/ --- If you’re applying for macro social work jobs but your resume still reads like the work you’re trying to leave, you may be making it harder for employers to see you doing anything else. You may know that your clinical, case management, medical social work, or direct service experience is transferable. But the person reading your resume only knows what you’ve actually put on the page. In this episode, I’m breaking down three signs your resume may be telling a career story you no longer want to continue, including why employers may keep seeing you as a fit for the same types of social work jobs you’re actively trying to move away from. We’re talking about how the language on your resume shapes how employers understand your experience, why a resume can read too “social worky” for the macro jobs you want, and how leading with the wrong parts of your experience can send a completely different message than the one you intended. If you’re a social worker trying to transition from clinical, case management, medical, school, or other direct service work into macro social work, policy, program design, or other systems-level roles, this episode will help you take a more critical look at the career story your resume is actually telling. Many organizations across education, higher education, healthcare, government, and community-based organizations are actively hiring and working to fill multiple positions. In this episode, I break down some of the hiring activity I'm seeing, the signs I use to identify when organizations are seriously trying to fill positions, and why job seekers should be paying attention to these opportunities right now. I also talk about how to take advantage of mass hiring, why you should be attending job fairs and getting directly in front of hiring decision-makers, how unsolicited applications can help you uncover opportunities that haven't been posted yet, and why your approach and attitude toward your job search matter. Your Career Mindset Is Being Influenced More Than You Think | There are jobs out there!

Ready to learn more about macro social work careers? Grab my free e-course at: https://macroandpaid.com/----There is a reason it feels like all you see is layoffs, career horror stories, and people talking about how impossible it is to find a job.Social media platforms reward the content that keeps people watching, commenting, and reacting. Unfortunately, negative career content often does exactly that. The danger is not that those stories exist. The danger is allowing them to become your entire view of the job market. If you spend enough time consuming fear based content, you can slowly convince yourself that there is no opportunity left, when in reality the people who prepare before the market shifts are usually the ones who benefit the most. The biggest mistake I see professionals make is waiting until they desperately need a job before they begin positioning themselves for one.Career transitions rarely happen overnight. Building a competitive resume, identifying the right opportunities, strengthening your interview skills, and creating a long term strategy all take time.Preparation is not something you do when you lose your job. Preparation is what you do before you ever need one.In this episode, I share why I believe this is a season to start getting your career in order instead of letting fear convince you to stand still.Listen to the full episode wherever you get your podcasts or watch the full conversation on YouTube.Happy macro career planning,Marthea Pitts, MSW

Why Employers Are Returning to Traditional Hiring Practices (And What It Means for You)

Ready to learn more about macro social work careers? Grab my free e-course at: https://macroandpaid.com/----Employers are changing the way they hire because job seekers have changed the way they apply.Over the past year, there has been a lot of conversation about AI generated resumes, cover letters, and even AI tools that help people answer interview questions in real time. Employers are noticing it, and many say it has become more difficult to distinguish one candidate from another because everyone is beginning to sound the same.In this episode, I break down what I learned after reading about how employers are responding. Some organizations are investing in more AI to detect AI generated applications, while others are seriously considering returning to more traditional hiring practices through referrals, local recruiting, alumni networks, skills assessments, and more in person hiring processes. The bigger takeaway is not whether AI is good or bad.The takeaway is that your career strategy cannot depend on one way of finding a job.Whether you have been in the workforce for twenty years or you are just graduating from college, learning multiple job search strategies is becoming more important than ever. The professionals who adapt to changes in hiring practices will always be in a better position than the ones who only know one approach.Happy macro career planning,Marthea Pitts, MSW

"What Certification Should I Get?" | My 3-Step Certification Selection Framework

Ready to learn more about macro social work careers? Grab my free e-course at: https://macroandpaid.com/ ---- Before you pay for another certification, make sure you know exactly what problem you expect it to solve. A lot of professionals pursue certifications because they want to earn more money, become more competitive, change industries, qualify for a promotion, or finally feel like they are making progress in their careers. But every certification does not lead to every outcome. Some certifications are required by employers. Some are only preferred. Some may help you enter a specific occupation, while others may simply add more letters behind your name without changing the opportunities available to you. This is why your decision cannot be based solely on what someone on social media recommends, especially when some creators have financial partnerships with the programs they promote. Look at the actual job postings for the work you want. Are employers consistently requiring the certification, or did it appear in one posting out of 100? What opportunities will it realistically create? How much time, money, energy, and capacity will it require? What other opportunities could you pursue with those same resources? A certification is an investment, and every investment should have a reasonable expected return. Before you enroll, slow down and evaluate the decision from a career perspective, not only from a place of frustration, fear, pressure, or the desire to feel like you are doing something. The goal is not to collect credentials. The goal is to make well-informed career decisions that move you closer to the work and life you actually want.
