This show would have gotten 5 stars from me if it was just Paul (talking about the religion episodes). Paul is extremely knowledgeable and he truly teaches (uses historical info and the Bible) why he believes the way he does. I also subscribe to the belief of Paul hijacking Jesus’s scripture. However, Caitlin is another story. While Paul comes at it with knowledge, she comes at it with pure emotion. It’s very clear that she’s been burned and traumatized by Christianity (totally get it), but she approaches the topics like she has a bone to pick. She’s hurt, and it’s so obvious. Instead of being logical, she resorts to throwing insults, being sarcastic, and mockery. She is very good at saying a lot of words and saying absolutely nothing at all. And there are many times where Paul has to correct her because she doesn’t even know the scripture she’s bashing. Paul is there to truly teach you why. Caitlin is there to just repeatedly talk about her personal feelings and experiences with the church. It’s so much of “I got out of it,” “I escaped,” “I’ve done all this work on myself,” “I made myself into a better person,” etc. It’s not about discussing and deconstructing the fallacies present. For her, it’s a sounding board to trauma-vent and brag on her accomplishments since leaving the religion (like her movies, that she talks about constantly). It comes across as really narcissistic. But Paul’s portions, where he uses scripture to prove his points and teach us why the works of Paul in the Bible are fraudulent, are fantastic! He doesn’t use it to just talk about himself. Also, Caitlin’s cadence when she talks, is extremely annoying and just hard to listen to. 5 stars for Paul. 1 for Caitlin. So I decided not to fault whole podcast and give it a 3. It would be much more enjoyable if it was just Paul on his own.
