Episode 133: The Return of the MHSA

In this episode of The Frontline with Family Protection Ministries, Nathan Pierce looks at the current fight over homeschool freedom and why families need to understand both the history behind these freedoms and the legislative battles happening right now. Nathan begins by reflecting on Homeschool Freedom Day in Simi Valley, California, including lessons from speakers such as Will Estrada and Zan Tyler about the history of homeschool court battles, effective advocacy, and the responsibility of passing freedom on to the next generation. The episode then turns to the Make Homeschool Safe Act, a proposed model of homeschool regulation that includes measures such as mandatory testing, state-approved curriculum standards, and teacher certification. Nathan discusses recent developments in states considering pieces of this legislation. A major focus is West Virginia, where lawmakers are working on proposed legislation that involves welfare checks when children are withdrawn from public school under certain circumstances. Nathan examines recent reports about the legislation and explains why homeschool families in West Virginia are paying close attention to what happens next. The episode also looks at why homeschool advocacy cannot be left to a single organization or a handful of people. Nathan discusses practical ways families can become involved, including contacting legislators, attending Capitol events, and making district office visits. Episode 129: Homeschooling Then and Now

For 40 years, Family Protection Ministries has been on the front lines defending homeschool freedom in California—and this episode takes a look back at some of the victories that made today's freedoms possible. Nathan Pierce shares the story of a major legislative battle that could have redefined truancy in a way that threatened homeschool families, and reflects on how God worked behind the scenes to bring about an unexpected victory. He also recounts powerful stories from the early days of homeschooling, when families lived with the very real fear of government intervention, teaching their children to hide if a social worker came to the door. As we celebrate FPM's 40th anniversary, this episode is both a reminder of God's faithfulness throughout the past four decades and a call to remain vigilant. Homeschool freedom has been hard-won, but new threats continue to emerge across the country. The freedoms we enjoy today are worth defending for the next generation. In this episode: • The story of a bill that threatened homeschool freedom—and how it was stopped • Why unintended consequences in legislation matter • True stories from pioneering homeschool families in the 1970s and 1980s • How God has been faithful throughout FPM's 40-year history • Why homeschool freedom still needs defending today • An invitation to Homeschool Freedom Day on September 12 at the Reagan Library 🔔 Subscribe for more updates on California politics, homeschool freedom, parental rights, and the family. 🌐 Learn more about Family Protection Ministries: https://fpmca.org #Homeschool #HomeschoolFreedom #FamilyProtectionMinistries #CaliforniaHomeschool #ParentalRights #Homeschooling #ChristianHomeschool #SchoolChoice #Family #Freedom
