Why You Overexplain Yourself: The Fear of Being Misunderstood

Have you ever walked away from a conversation and immediately felt the urge to explain yourself one more time? Maybe you send the long text. Add more context. Defend what you meant. Or keep replaying the conversation because you need the other person to understand your intentions. In this episode, we’re talking about why you overexplain yourself and why being misunderstood can feel so uncomfortable. The urge to explain, defend, clarify, and manage how someone sees you isn’t just a communication habit. It’s a protective part trying to keep you safe from disconnection, disappointment, rejection, or being seen in a way that feels threatening. You’ll learn the difference between healthy clarification and overexplaining, why your nervous system can treat someone else’s perception of you like an emergency, and how to let your Resourced Self step into leadership. We’ll also explore a powerful question: Can you stay connected to yourself even when someone else doesn’t understand you? Because you can communicate clearly, apologize when needed, and repair relationships without taking responsibility for controlling what someone else thinks about you. And sometimes the most freeing thing you can learn is: I can let you misunderstand me without misunderstanding myself. 🌟 Useful Links & Resources from Marci ✨  3 Secrets to Instantly Feel Better  Scroll to the bottom of this page for quick, powerful tips to shift your emotional state fast. 💖 Join the Self Love YOUniversity A supportive space where Christian women learn to love themselves deeply, show up confidently, and live with purpose.   👉 Click here to enroll or learn more 🧭 Book a FREE Clarity Call Want to feel more grounded, calm, and confident—starting now? Why Capable Women Carry Too Much: The Hidden Cost of Being the Responsible One

Are you the capable one—the responsible woman everyone knows they can count on? You handle things. You remember things. You figure things out. You take care of the people you love. But what happens when being capable stops being something you’re good at and starts becoming who you believe you have to be? In this episode, Marci explores why capable women often end up carrying too much—and why the exhaustion isn’t always about having too much to do. Sometimes it comes from a much deeper pattern: believing it’s your responsibility to make sure everyone and everything is okay. Using The Inner Relationship Method™, Marci introduces two protective patterns that can show up here: It’s All On Me and The Overgiver. You’ll learn how these patterns can begin early in life, why being the responsible one can become connected to safety, love, usefulness, and worth, and what happens when life gives you something you simply cannot fix or control. Marci also explores how this can show up in motherhood. When our children experience normal human struggles—rejection, loneliness, failure, friendship problems, disappointment, or making choices we wouldn’t choose—the capable mom may feel an intense pull to step in and make things better. And when she can’t, she may begin believing that she is failing. That can lead to guilt, shame, overgiving, overfunctioning, exhaustion, and even strain in the relationship she is working so hard to protect. This episode will help you begin asking a different question: Am I carrying this because I genuinely choose to—or because some part of me believes I have to? You don’t need to become less capable. You can learn to be capable without carrying everything. Why Do I Keep Reacting This Way? Understanding Emotional Triggers & Changing Your Reactions

Why do you keep reacting the same way—even when you know better? Maybe you know you shouldn’t take their tone personally. You know you don’t need to explain yourself, fix everything, people please, shut down, or immediately defend yourself. And yet… your body reacts anyway. In this episode, Marci explains why intellectual understanding alone doesn’t always change an emotional reaction. Your nervous system, old stories, and protective parts can respond long before your logical brain has a chance to step in. You’ll learn: Why emotional triggers can feel automaticHow your nervous system responds to perceived threatWhy protective patterns like people pleasing, over-explaining, controlling, or shutting down developWhat may be underneath your reactionsHow to move from self-criticism into curiosityHow your Resourced Self can begin leading instead of letting old protective patterns take overYou’ll also learn a simple five-question practice to help you slow down and understand what is actually happening inside you when you get emotionally activated. Because the reaction may be happening today—but the strategy may be much older. You don’t need more shame about your reactions. You need understanding, awareness, compassion, and a new way to respond. Just Because You Can Doesn’t Mean You Should: Capacity, Priorities, and the Pressure to Do It All

Just because you can do more doesn’t always mean you should. As capable women, it can be easy to confuse capability with capacity. You know how to push through. You know how to get things done. You know how to carry a lot. But what happens when your actual emotional, mental, or physical capacity is asking for something different? In this episode, Marci explores the difference between capability, capacity, and priorities—and why respecting your capacity isn’t the same as giving up. She shares her own tendency toward Drive or Stop, and the new practice she is learning instead: Capacity or Rest. You’ll also hear two simple analogies to help you rethink your current season: what fall teaches us about letting go, rest, and dormancy, and how to decide what belongs on the front burners of your life—and what can safely simmer on the back. In this episode, you’ll explore: Why being capable doesn’t mean you have unlimited capacityHow to recognize the season you’re actually inWhy rest and maintenance are not signs that you’re failingHow to choose your three most important prioritiesWhat you may need to consciously let waitHow to stop using “I can do it” as the reason you keep carrying moreYou do not have to have capacity for everything. You only need to be honest about the capacity you have—and choose what matters most within it. Before Your Feet Hit the Floor: How to Stop Morning Anxiety From Running Your Day

Do you wake up and immediately feel anxious, overwhelmed, or mentally behind before your feet even hit the floor? Your brain starts making the list. Remember this. Don’t forget that. What about that conversation? How am I going to get everything done today? In this episode, Marci shares a simple morning practice to help you interrupt that automatic rush into worry and begin your day with more calm, connection, gratitude, and intention. You’ll learn how to notice morning anxiety without letting it take over, why urgency is not always the same as importance, and how to reconnect with yourself before you connect with the demands of the day. Marci walks you through the five-part morning Orient practice she personally uses: • Notice what you can hear and express gratitude • Notice what you can feel and express gratitude • Send love to five people who matter to you • Check in with your body and notice what needs care • Express love and gratitude to Heavenly Father for a recent blessing you received She also shares how prayer helps her connect with God, ask for guidance and support, and begin the day remembering who she wants to be. This is not about creating a perfect morning routine. It’s about beginning your day from connection instead of urgency. Before you start taking care of everyone and everything else, make contact with yourself. How to Come Back to Yourself: Stop Fixing Yourself and Start Becoming

Fall often comes with an invitation to reset everything: new routines, new goals, better habits, get organized, finish the year strong. But what if you don’t need another self-improvement project? What if you’ve simply gotten disconnected from yourself? In this episode, I’m reflecting on that question after wrapping up 14 weeks of my Come Home to Your Heart Masterclass. As I looked at the women who said yes, showed up, trusted me, and allowed themselves to grow, I could see their becoming. They are not the same women they were 14 weeks ago. And neither am I. That experience reminded me that personal growth isn’t always about becoming someone new. Sometimes it’s about understanding yourself more deeply, reconnecting with the parts of you that have gotten lost beneath responsibility, expectations, overthinking, and caring for everyone else—and becoming more fully yourself. In this episode, we’ll talk about: • Why feeling disconnected from yourself can look like needing to “fix” yourself • The difference between self-improvement and coming home to yourself • How you can be highly functional and still feel disconnected inside • Why becoming may sometimes look more like returning • Four simple questions to help you reconnect with yourself this season Before you decide everything that needs to change about you this fall, consider a different possibility: What would it look like to let this season be about becoming more fully yourself? 🌟 Useful Links & Resources from Marci ✨  3 Secrets to Instantly Feel Better  Scroll to the bottom of this page for quick, powerful tips to shift your emotional state fast. 💖 Join the Self Love YOUniversity A supportive space where Christian women learn to love themselves deeply, show up confidently, and live with purpose.   👉 Click here to enroll or learn more 🧭 Book a FREE Clarity Call Want to feel more grounded, calm, and confident—starting now? When You Don't Feel Like Yourself: Honoring the Seasons When Your Voice Goes Quiet

In this raw, unedited episode, Marci is talking honestly about what happened when my voice went quiet. For two weeks, she didn’t release a podcast episode. Not because she had nothing to say, but because what she had to say wasn't available to her. Marci was carrying some heavy sadness. She had used a lot of creative energy on other projects. And honestly, she was discouraged. Marci had released a previous episode she believed was one of her strongest, shared clips from it on social media, and was met with very little response. In the past, Marci might have pushed through, forced herself to produce something, and called that discipline. But she's been practicing how to listen. In this episode, Marci talks about the difference between avoidance and honoring yourself, between lovingly stretching yourself and overriding what your nervous system and inner world may actually need. Marci also explores what happens when you stop making a temporary lack of energy, motivation, creativity, or capacity mean something about who you are. You’ll hear encouragement to ask yourself: Am I avoiding something that needs courage, or is something inside me genuinely asking to be heard? What am I making this season mean about me?What would it look like to stay in relationship with myself instead of judging or forcing myself? Can I let discouragement be present without abandoning myself because of it?Sometimes your voice doesn’t come back because you finally found the perfect thing to say. Sometimes it comes back when you give yourself permission to tell the truth about why it went quiet. If you’ve been feeling discouraged, disconnected, creatively drained, emotionally tired, or like you should be doing more than you currently have capacity for, this episode is for you.
