Excellent Resource for Poets
Mar 8
I’ve been listening to a variety of dandy poetry podcasts for several years. Most of them introduce poets, a sample poem and offer a close reading of that work. I just recently discovered The Poetry Space podcast hosted by Katie Dozier and Timothy Green. It’s a goldmine for anyone eager to strengthen their poetry writing skills or interested in learning from experienced poetry editors. Each of the over 90 episodes focuses on a topic such as Revision, Titles, Turns, Haiku, Villanelles, etc. There are expert guests offering their tips, as well. Every podcast I’ve listened to has been helpful. They’re informative, thought provoking and inspiring. Lots of fun, too. What a resource gift for those of us writing poetry, especially if we’re winging it without an MFA program or writing cohort for input and support at this time. Highly recommend.😊
Superb Poetry Podcast

After listening to episode 86 “After Poems,” I have a greater appreciation for an editor’s thought processes, especially when encountering After Poems or poems inspired by. This episode is quite insightful and is a great help in providing clarity to giving credit to the poets and poems we borrow from, the importance of making it our own. The entire series is a goldmine.

Katie and Tim offer intelligent and thoughtful insight into the theory of poetry—as well as close readings and deep discussions. Highly recommend!
A fun listen and a useful resource!

This podcast is a better introduction to form poems, their reputations, and how they operate in the community of poets writing in these forms NOW than if you were to buy and read a random textbook or only rely on basic Poetry Foundation descriptions and examples from like websites. If you haven’t attended formal poetry classes, save your money and start here!

If you like hearing and talking about poetry, this podcast, is wonderful. It’s free of MFA-type jargon, and the hosts are great.
Great poetry podcast!

I’ve really enjoyed this podcast. The discussion is great and I love how much poetry is infused throughout it. Since I don’t have an MFA I work to gather poetic knowledge on my own. And I’m still learning about more contemporary poets. I feel like I could go on and on. I loved the episode on Emily Dickinson. Learning about Ghazals has been great! I didn’t know anything about the Beats. But I’ve enjoyed a few of Ginsburg’s poems here and there. I feel like it’s helped me see more of the expansiveness of the poetry community right now.
Let’s Talk About Poetry

Look, if I wanted to talk about poetry with people who are cool about poetry in a way that makes poetry accessible and fun and cool and frankly super-appealing, then I’d come to this podcast. And I do, because Katie created a very good discussion podcast and Tim co-hosts and together they are super heroes in a world needing more poetry!!! What I’m saying is: this podcast is great!
